The toughest challenge that I ever faced is to stop being a perfectionist all the time. I have high standards for myself and I don’t expect any less than that. I must admit I am my hardest critic. Whenever I start anything I always tend to put everything I have in it. There are times where I even sacrificed sleep just to make sure everything was perfect. I overcame this challenge by allowing myself to relax and realizing that there are times when I can put myself first. I have used this experience to my advantage by setting limits. I don’t necessarily settle when it comes to my work, in fact I am never truly satisfied in it. However I am able to stop going overboard and causing unnecessary stress on
myself.
At some point in life most people have allowed at least one challenge to defeat them, if not more. Then there are those people who view these challenges as simply that, a challenge. This was the theme throughout Kyle Maynard’s novel, No Excuses, I learned that it is how we go about conquering these challenges that defines us as people. Throughout his novel he notes things will not always come easily; therefore, it is up to us to dig deep and conquer our goals. By finding alternate routes and adjusting your mindset, we are able to achieve any goal we set our minds to. Because it is not the obstacle that holds us back but it is ourselves that keeps us from fulfilling our greatest
Working in supervisory and managerial positions I do view problems as something to be solved and wanting to be a perfectionist I can spend some looking for the best resolve, one that will have everyone happy and enjoying working with each other. The reality is that that is not the case in many situations and time can be lost looking to build a relationship where there will never be one.
I will need to overcome some obstacles in order to accomplish my goals. Family obligations will challenge my time management and multitasking skills. Procrastination is one of the biggest obstacles I face. I will need to develop more patience as I feel demands of the family encroaching on my professional goals. I tend to be shortsighted and allow myself to feel overwhelmed rather than being able to keep everything in perspective.
As the quote given by William Shakespeare “Dream in light years, challenge each mile and walk step by step” which indicates don’t be afraid of ambition, break down each challenge and set new goals and
Overcoming perfectionism requires a fundamental shift in your attitude toward yourself and how you approach life in general. The following seven guidelines are intended as a starting point for making such a shift.
Each person in this world makes mistakes. Nobody is at all perfect. There is no such thing as someone having perfection. Anybody around myself makes mistakes. The false move may be big or may be small. No matter how small or big a mistake is everyone makes them. I personally do not feel like I have made an enormous mistake yet. Does not mean it will not happen, it will happen. I have made plentiful small mistakes, for examples, staying up to late on Sunday night watching Netflix. Waiting to do my homework last minute. Embarrassing myself somehow, everyone at least some point in their lives embarrass themselves. Blaming someone else for my mistakes, I blame my sister, Erica on things that I have done. Spending money on useless things, I have
When I was a young girl, my older brother always did very well in school and he and the rest of our family were always very proud of his work. As I grew older and noticed all of my brother’s achievements I decided that I wanted to not only achieve what he had, but to also achieve things that he had not. Because of this strive to reach and surpass the standards that my brother had set, I developed into a person with great determination. Throughout my life I have always set goals for myself and then did everything I could in order to meet those goals. This aspect of determination in my personality has allowed me to get to where I am today, a student of George Mason University. Whenever I am faced with an obstacle, such as a hard class, I make
Throughout my life, I have strived to be a hard-working individual when it comes to school, my job, and family work. I always try to work quickly and efficiently, and make my work the best that it can be. Perfectionism is a major part of my life and that is one of the driving forces behind my hard work. Sometimes the drive to be perfect can limit my results, but I try my hardest to keep it from restricting me. I always give one hundred percent when it comes to completing various tasks, and find pride in being a hard-worker.
Staying focused: This is probably one of the hardest. I have a lot of things going on in my life. Two jobs, college, taking care of a family, which is all important but I always can’t get overwhelmed and forget what I’m trying to accomplish.
There is a point in everyone’s life when they step back and realize “I can’t do this anymore, it’s ruining my life”. Many of my friends have started smoking cigarettes while drinking at a very young age, and continue to use this drug currently and don’t realize the affect it has on their future. While I have been smart enough to avoid smoking, I haven’t been as wise at making decisions when it comes to drinking. The amount of partying I’ve done in college has taken over my life, and has had a huge impact on my grades. Changing my drinking habits and continuing to avoid cigarettes will enable me to be the best I can be for the rest of my college experience.
The first challenge, and in my opinion the most crucial challenge that I had to face was learning the English language, and also communication. This challenge was important for me to overcome due to the fact that I am here on the
Perfection is not within the realms of possibility, but I always knew if I aim for perfection, I could at least achieve excellence. This is the mantra I have followed in every walk of life. I have always learnt to appreciate everything I have taken up, thoroughly and to the fullest. In this competitive pace of life, I have learnt a lot from my experiences and I am still striving to learn more. I constantly challenged myself in an effort to develop a rational mindset and approach to problem solving.
Lower down your standards. Are you a perfectionist? If you are, then learn how to lower down your standards, accept mistakes, and go for accomplishments like “good enough.”
This was the lesson I learnt from my father, an unceasing learner and a person who would never give up no matter how many and how difficult the obstacles may be. Having understood from him that success is a moving target, the years of my life with my family have inculcated in me a desire to achieve perfection.
“Something in human nature causes us to start slacking off at our moment of greatest accomplishment. As you become successful, you will need a great deal of self-discipline not to lose your sense of balance, humility and commitment.
