Personal Narrative: The Shot

The Shot What I learned in a 7th grade basketball game was one of the biggest things I learned so far in my life, and that is to be confident. No matter what it is, be confident in everything you do. I was in 7th grade and it was the middle of December. By now, basketball season was in full swing, and we had already had three games, winning every one of them so far. It was a Friday and we had our fourth game of the season today, at our home court against South Tama. The bell signifying the end of eighth period rang, and my teammates and I that are in Mrs. Oldenburger’s study hall raced to the locker room to change into shorts, so we could shoot baskets before our game. I had never played South Tama in any sport before, so I didn’t know what to expect. But one of my teammates, James, said “We played South Tama in football this fall, and we beat them easily. They aren’t very good at all” “Great! They probably aren’t good at basketball either. We have been playing so great already this season. This will be an easy game,” said another. That made my teammates happy hearing that, and they all got pretty cocky saying this game wasn’t going to be a challenge, later finding out it was our …show more content…

Since we were the underclassmen, the 8th graders got to play their game before ours. But soon their game reached the end of the third quarter, and my 7th grade teammates and I went into the locker room to change into our jerseys and shorts. Since this game was home for us, we wore our white jerseys and white shorts. The horn sounded for the end of the 8th grade game, so we ran out on to the court and started in the layup line. I looked across the court at our opponents from South Tama, and remembered what James said about him thinking South Tama wasn’t very good.
