Attending the Santa Fe volleyball tournament, with the varsity team, the tournament would last three days straight. Means we would miss school, but coach would tell everyone to go there classes to get their assignments before, we leave to Santa Fe. As I found out one of the days during the tournament, I would miss my niece's 2nd birthday party. First, after school during volleyball practice, our coach blow his whistle and all the players run while, shagging the volleyball's and putting them into the basket, heading towards the coach. Then, once everyone is there, all the volleyball was in the baskets, coach would throw a volleyball. Then everyone ran to get that one volleyball and sprinting back to where coach was. Coach does this to show leadership from the group and everyone would run to get the ball and retrieve back to the coach. Once that is finished, coach told the varsity team we would be leaving early heading to Santa Fe, and will be staying for three days there …show more content…
for the tournament. Also, to bring our black and white jerseys and make sure we have everything for the tournament. Second, before hearing the announcement that the team where heading to Santa Fe for three days. During, my classes, I would ask my teachers on want our assignments are beforehand to get head or turn it in when I come back from the tournament. Most of my classes have a free day for other students to catch up in the class to get a better a grade for the class. Also, my teacher told me the assignments are posted on their home page. That they would tell me not to worry about the assignments because my grade is good in their class. But, I would do my assignments to let my mind at a rest knowing that I have them finish. Also, when I finish with my assignments ahead of time, I would focus on spending time with my niece. Third, hearing that my niece's birthday was on one of the days during the tournament. Which made me feel bad because I'll be missing my niece's birthday again due to another volleyball event. The first time I missed her first birthday was due to away game in Shiprock, and didn't come back until 9 pm. I felt bad knowing, I have to miss her birthday for a volleyball game. If I had to choose I would choose my niece because volleyball won't always be there for me as well as my niece. But, then, I would be letting down my team and probably wouldn't play the next game since, I was gone. But, either one, I choose, I would disappoint either one of them. In conclusion since I played volleyball their occasions that I miss like birthday parties and family gatherings, but I attend school and keep my grades up.
In order, to play the sport I love, but my sport wouldn't always last forever. My family seems more important than I realized it to be. I would focus on my studies rather than my family which, I understand that family would always be my side, but then, one day I would regret it. What I learned from this experience, is my family is more important then, a sport. That I shouldn’t put a sport ahead of my family because my family will always better their but, one day my relatives might die and my family would have memories of the event they spend together that day. While, I don’t have a memory of them that day since, I choose to play volleyball. Now, I’m focused on college, studying and staying on track of my work, I get them done ahead of time to spend more of my free time with my beloved family and finally cherishing more memories with my
family.
We had been waiting all day, we were all ecstatic for practice. It was the last of the season. As soon as the final bell rang, we raced to our locker room to get dressed. I made sure to grab my spikes and was off to our team meeting place. As the team gathered with excitement we saw our coach approaching us with a look of despair. He explained to us that the high school students would be taking over the track for the day and that our last middle school, track and field practice would not be happening. Many of the students were very upset because it was at our school and so therefore it was our track. Many incidents like this have more than likely happened to the swimmers and softball players as well.
I went into my junior spring soccer season kind of sad, my past coach, wasn't going to be our team coach this year. I wasn't really depressed though, because I had tons of friends that were playing this year. One of the great things about soccer is that it is not a school-sanctioned sport. To me this said that I was able to play another season of soccer with my friends from Paonia and Hotchkiss without the normal High School rivalry between these schools. Year after year, the schools pulled pranks on each other, sometimes nothing big, but sometimes something big. I remember my freshman or sophomore year, when a few guys I knew went over to Paonia and painted their skylight in their commons. When the sun shined into the skylight, it reflected a big HHS onto the floor, talk about a cool prank, but hey they got a free vacation but the school had to pay a ton of money to clean it up.
As the sun rose over the horizon I was already on my way to an early morning tournament game with my baseball team. I knew that if we lost todays game that we would be eliminated from the tournament and would be sent home. I had almost no belief that we would win today because the team we were scheduled to play was ranked number one in the tournament. I knew that the rest of the team felt the same way.
I wanted to play sports all my life for my school but I never could because I loved school but I always had problems with my classes. Classes were difficult for me so I never got to play. The coaches wanted me to play because when it came down to sports they thought I was a excellent player. I believe that a student shouldn't have to be on the honor roll to play sports because it's just a sport it made to have fun, your not getting paid to keep up your grades last but not least you never know what a student is going through so you don't know if they can keep up being on the honor roll.
I decided that I wanted to play a sport, I chose volleyball. Most of my friends played the sport so it wasn't hard for me to adjust and make new friends. Becoming a student athlete was a big adjustment for me, I could no longer float through my classes but I need to excel. And that's exactly what I did. For the first time in my high school career I made not only honor roll, but principal’s honor roll. For the first time my mom was proud of my report card, that made me even more proud. From then on I knew I wanted nothing less than what I earned, good grades and a proud family. From my decision to chose to become a student athlete not only make me work harder but, be great at everything I put my mind to. I had motivation to stay successful, to stay eligible. Three years ago if you were to ask me where I thought I would be my senior year, I probably would have told you low level classes barely making it by. Now here I am today excelling in my education preparing to take the next step in my future, college. Even if we don’t understand why we go through them, we have to be willing to let our obstacles become out
Volleyball Rules, Tips, Strategy, and Safety. New York: Rosen Publishing Group, Inc., 2005. Print. The. Hartwell, Eric. A.
Whether it was soccer or volleyball, I played for the competition. During freshman volleyball, my eyes were opened to another aspect of the game. One morning while walking to the Middle School for practice, a couple seniors drove by and said, “Get in!”. I was way too shy to answer so…. I got in. I, a lowly freshman sitting with three starters. They asked about volleyball, how I was doing and if I needed anything. They were nice and seemed concerned about my well being. They modeled qualities I wanted.
Spring of 2014, the Spring break of my sophomore year, in high school, was definitely the most memorable year. I spent the entire week with the best softball team to which I have ever belonged. We went to Perdido Key, Florida and had a great experience together. Each day consisted of beach time and two softball games. This trip was definitely the best team bonding trip I have experienced because of the experiences my team and I encountered each day.
It is the fifth inning. There is two outs, bases are loaded, and the score is nine to nine. This is the most important game of the season. It is the state championship.
I started basketball at the tender age of four years old. At that time, it was mostly running around a basketball court having fun, and making the parents in the crowd smile. I would not have thought at that age that basketball would mean so much. As I got older I wanted to be like my dad, and my sister, on top of being in Knoxville, Tennessee where women’s basketball, and football is almost all people care about. On rival game days when we would play the Florida Gators, UT fans would have actual alligators they killed on top of their cars. The first time I witnessed this was riding in the car on the highway, I remember distinctly getting scared and asking my dad “what is that huge this on their car”, I could not believe my eyes. I remember meeting Pat Summit at UT and it seemed like basketball was the normal process of things in my family and my
As I sat on the sideline, I hesitated and trembled to watch my teammate play the game I love. With only five minutes into the first set, I was already taken out of the court due to, as stated by my volleyball coach, a nervous breakdown. To my surprise, I did not expect an eighth grader to spike the ball with such great power. Going into the final two of the Newark Volleyball Tournament, our team was warned about the opponent, but I was not going to let the intimidation get to me, and yet I was terrified to receive another hit as I played from the back row. Before the second set began, I was asked if I was ready to get back into the game. Now as I reflect on my past, I believe deciding to return to the game was a decision I will never forget.
Teams from across the United States and surrounding territories have the opportunity to compete against other teams of their age and skill level if they qualify prior to at a qualifying tournament. My team began play on Sunday and ended on Thursday, which was four days of high level, intense volleyball. We didn’t play so well the first couple of days going 1-3, but came out strong the last two days of the tournament. We ended up with a record of 6-3, winning five straight games. That was good enough for us to win the bottom half of the tournament, placing 25th out of 48 teams overall. The last game was bittersweet for me, it was likely the last club volleyball game of my career. I have been playing club volleyball with the organization for four years and I had the same coaches for all four of them. They taught me more about volleyball and life skills than I could have ever imagined, and for that I will forever be grateful. I will miss my club family more than anything and couldn’t have asked for a better experience to end on. Competing at nationals is a big deal and I couldn’t be more proud of everything my team was able to accomplish. I have a strong passion for volleyball and it consumes most of my time, but I don’t mind. I couldn’t have asked for a better “vacation” to New Orleans, filled with playing
Confidence – the full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing. The day I was handed my blue and black Babolat tennis racquet and was forced on the tennis court I knew it was where I belong. Every day I pick up my racquet and walk on the asphalt blue courts, I can’t help but to remember my days of glory- the days that were filled with screeches from my shoes sliding against the concrete.
I was very involved in athletics at Wesley College, my former high school. I played on the volleyball team for my four years attending school. While I was on the volleyball team we won volleyball championship two years in a row. Even when we were far behind we hanged in there and came out victorious, this was so exciting for me. My school in general was every involved in sports, especially basketball and softball. We were involved in every sports right down to track and field. I loved when we would have sports day because I would participate in most of the fun races like sack race, three legged race and lime and spoon. I can remember one year when me and partner were doing the three legged race and fell flat on our butt. We look at each other and smiled, but with the determination to win we got up back and raced towards the finish line. We still managed to place
For me, the most important thing, besides my family, is badminton. I train 6 times a week, and that does not include tournaments in weekends. It helps me stressing of and it helps keeping in shape. Badminton gives me lot of experiences.
