Spending time in the county turned this city kid into the caring, interested, and technical person I am today. When I turned thirteen I started spending my summers in the New Madrid & Dunklin County Missouri. At either my step-mothers farm, or my Grandfathers farm. If you imagine a city slicker, surrounded by dirt, produce and this room with an old computer. I thought I would never make it! My first computer problem came from my father. He needed to get on the internet and he couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t getting a dial tone. I remember him being fairly upset, talking about how he needed to check the prices of yellow crookneck squash, so he could send his truck off to Schnucks Grocery in Illinois. The book series I found in the room was the “Magic Tree House” series by Mary Pope Osborne. The “Magic Tree House”; series changed my life as a young boy. Foremost I now know the hard work it takes to get that food we enjoy on our plate. Living in the city with my mother I was exposed to business and communication. Spending time in the country allowed me to tie together the business of feeding America. Secondly my summers on my grandfather’s farm taught me hard work, but it also showed me how many things can be improved and innovated within agriculture. The biggest effect it has had on my worldview has been the motivation I have had from my parents to be a leader and an effective member of my campus. My Father was Student Government Association President, and my Mother was a Leader within her Sorority. Being a part of MANRRS, ACM, and LU-IN-STEP has allowed me to grow into the person I one day want to be. Organized, Friendly, Thoughtful, Capable, and one day
