Warning I am going to rant about myself so, heads up. There are times when I have felt depressed and even my doctor was telling me I was getting depressed. But, that all changed when I started thing and when I made a new friend.
Alright, my depression started some were in 5th grade. In 5th grade I somehow turned into a quiet girl. In class, I really just thought about what I was going to do when I got home. I just felt unmotivated, tired, and depressed. When I looked around I felt like I was an outcast. But, some people wanted to talk about me. I did have friends that were in the same class as me and I made new friends. But, that was only an illusion for 5th grade.
6th grade came and my friends and I were split up, and some of my friends were in the same hall as me. I was put into what the students called “the dumb hallway”, some people weren’t as smart as the other kids in a different hallway but, let’s get back on track. Begin called a “dumb kid” started a little of my depression. I didn’t do my homework unless, it was important and I didn’t do my classwork at the best of my ability. in class. My family caught wind of me not doing good in class, and they told me to talk to them. They had asked me “What’s wrong, why are you getting bad grades”, they asked me “Because, I didn’t feel like it”, I told them Now, begin in an Asian family (what the stereo types say about Asian families) they had a high expectation .So, they yelled and scolded me, they also grounded me. I really didn’t care about what I said at the time being, so I just forgot about it. After that, a lot of classes changed for people and most of my friend were with me in the same class. So, I was happy. I guess you could say 6th grade was a good year for me, even though I had gotten bad grade and I was yelled at again. I was still happy. 7th grade came and my friends and I were still together.
I’m not sure but, I think I was still in what the kids call “the dumb hallway”. After a few months a new student came and we became good friends. We had a lot of thing that we liked, she always dragged me around to people and she was slowly pulling me out of my shell. I was becoming so happy. After a few months, I was in my room and I was thinking back about my life. There were a few tears and I was thinking to myself, what I was doing. I came to realize I didn’t have it bad as other people; I wasn’t the only one that was lonely. I went to sleep after that I found out it was 6:00 so, what I did was went down stairs and went to my garage. I went down there because, there was a punching bag sitting there to relive my stress. After, hour my grandma came down and said to
me “What are you doing up so early” “I just wanted to” I told her But, then my grandma scolded me for waking up early, and punching something without gloves. So there for my knuckles were burning and red as a pepper. But, hey at least I learned that I had people who cared about me at least. After, what had happened my grades were improving as I did my homework, and classwork. And I wasn’t depressed anymore. I was happier but, I was still quiet. People are still pulling me out of my shell but, that going to take some time. Oh yea, could you not tell anyone about this, it’s quite embarrassing to let people read about my nagging.

The Great Depression tested America’s political organizations like no other event in United States’ history except the Civil War. The most famous explanations of the period are friendly to Roosevelt and the New Deal and very critical of the Republican presidents of the 1920’s, bankers, and businessmen, whom they blame for the collapse. However, Amity Shlaes in her book, The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression, contests the received wisdom that the Great Depression occurred because capitalism failed, and that it ended because of Roosevelt’s New Deal. Shlaes, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and a syndicated financial columnist, argues that government action between 1929 and 1940 unnecessarily deepened and extended the Great Depression.
"Growing Up" by Russell Baker is an autobiography on the troubles him and his family faced during the Great Depression.. While the United States is enormously changing from war to war, Russell tells his story of growing up in an extremely depressing environment. She has been a close friend to my grandmother for as long as I can remember, but I have never heard her real story.

The sudden, devastating collapse of US stock market prices on October 29, 1929, known as Black Tuesday, was just the beginning of this economic decline. The sources for the aspects that define identity have change over time with social climates altering moral priorities. This fluctuation of values was seen over the course of the great depression as tragedy befell millions of Americans who lost everything that they had spent most of their lives striving towards. The most common examples were families being foreclosed and thrown out of their homes because of lack of work. There were more and less extreme examples all having the same devastating effect of eroding away the things that they used to identify with; there houses, jobs, clothing, family keepsakes, and more just to survive. The economic depression during the 1930’s lead to the destruction of American morale as individuals’ identities rooted in their homes and jobs suddenly disappeared leaving people with no foundation. Motivated by personal crisis, Americans wrote political figures hoping to regain some semblance of normalcy without having to forfeit their pride when describing the loss they had experienced to strengthen their pleas.
There were many events that led to the Great Depression. Every event affected the people worse and worse over time. The Great Depression started in the early 1930’s during Hoover’s presidency. However, before the Great Depression life was great, there were many new technologies that made life more advanced. Nobody expected such a horrible event to occur during the time of the “Roaring 20’S.”
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.

Depression is an illness within itself that affects the “whole body”. (Staywell,1998) The body, feelings, thoughts, and behavior are all immensely altered when someone is depressed. It is not a sign of personal weakness, or a condition that can be wished or willed away. For some people depression is just temporary, but for others it can last for weeks, months and even years.
