I remember a time when I did a right thing that does not mean obeying the law. My mom was born in Mexico. She does not have her citizenship papers. She Works for a cleaning company. She has night shifts so she usually leaves at 6:00pm and gets off 2:00am. She works with two other people to help her clean buildings. She has to vacuum, mop, take trash out, and clean all windows. One of her workers handle the job so they quit. My mom has been working for this company for over 6 years. She always talks about how much she hurts. Sometimes at nights, she cries because she cannot quit because she has things to pay. One day she was walking all around the house speaking Spanish saying she should leave early. I told her what was wrong because she was …show more content…
I was begging her to take me and saying I did not want her to be working two times harder because she was 52 years old. After a while, she said I could and it was a risk because I was under age and I could lose my mother job. I knew that if I never went with my mom she would had been such in pain and could always punish myself for doing something about it. However, I took that risk and helped my mother out. I have been helping her for more than 3 weeks until the women came back or until my mom could find someone else to work with her. At the end of every week, my mother would get payed and always wanted to give me half of the money because I did half the job but I could never take that money. I would feel so bad because I just wanted to help her make that job easier for her. She always complain about me refusing her money because I helped her for what she would get payed for and me not excepting it would make no sense. I told her she needed the money I would have not needed used the money for good use. I do not understand how people that comes into this country without paper and has been living here their whole life’s even if they do not have any criminal record could get at least a good paying
much food as they do, she constantly brings up her lack of money or anger towards the distribution of pay
Leslie has a very busy schedule she doesn 't even have time to go and relax with her friends. I will say her schedule is detailed to the hour. She something to do different every hour. On The morning she always goes to university to take her classes. After it, she comes home very quick and starts babysitting with her nephew. Her nephew is 2 years old and sometimes he goes to sleep during that time of babysitting Leslie studies for her classes and plan what she will do tomorrow. One time her mom told her to quit her part-time job and she will pay her babysitting with her nephew. But Leslie chooses different idea “I ask myself a question why I will take money from my mom If I have a part-time job.” She chooses to stay with it and her
It was our turn to order. We looked at the big overhead menu. The menu was overwhelming and hard to read, plus my family barely spoke English and had an accent. Not knowing what to order, I saw my mother feeling confused; there were many foods that was listed on the menu, and my mother didn’t know what they meant. While my mother was trying figure out which one to choose, the waiter started looking impatient and was acting aggressive. And to make things worse, one of the customers that was in the back said, “Hurry up! We are trying to eat.” Then my mom tried to frantically order, but the waiter interrupted my mom before letting her order and said, “I cannot understand what you are saying; please don’t waste the customer’s time.” My mom was speechless. The customers and the waiter were impatient and they were looking at us as if we were not supposed to be there. My mother failed to order and she was feeling embarrassed about it; while we were going out, I saw the employees pointing at us and making fun of our accent. Seeing that upsetting and unfair thing happen to my mom, at 10, I promised myself that I would financially and intellectually provide for my family so that we no longer endure the
I don't think it's right to break the law, no matter what the circumstances are. Breaking the laws is wrong, and people shouldn't think that it's an okay thing to do. If you don't agree with the law, you should try to get in contact with someone high up in the government and explain to them your stance on the issue, and why you believe it needs to be changed, or removed altogether. The laws are in place for a reason, and that is to protect us. American citizens need to start respecting the laws more, and respect those who enforce them.
How can someone with a near impossible chance of getting a “good” job in the united states be able to steal the job you want from you? It’s not rocket science, they cannot. Illegal immigrants do the jobs that the average US citizen under 27 does not want to do. They have the lowest income for doing some of the hardest work. They are not paid the wages that Citizens get even though working the same job they probably work at it harder. But wait a second, The United States also has a high amount of immigration fraud. In the chapter of Illegal Immigration: Causes, Methods, and Effects titled Immigration Fraud: Policies, Investigations, and Issues by Ruth Ellen Wasem; Wasem states “ Given that an estimated12 million aliens are residing in the United States without legal authorization, it is reasonable to presume that many of these unauthorized aliens are committing document fraud. The extent to which unauthorized aliens enter with fraudulently obtained documents or acquire bogus documents after entry is not known.”. (Wasem 91) This after all is just an accusation. The same thing can be assumed about almost anyone. For example is it right to assume an inmate who recently got out of prison is a bad person and should be avoided and discriminated against? Morally this should be a concern of people. You’re segregating people and making your self dislike the certain group just because of an assumption. Do we even have morals
When my mother arrived in Paterson, she hated it and thought it was so ugly and even cried to go back to Mexico. After six months my mother was able to go back to Mexico to get her green card, which showed that she was a legal citizen of America. My mother’s main priority was about making sure to go to school and get an education. She was able to go to Kennedy High School but hated it since she only spoke Spanish and couldn’t understand anything. The only thing she was able to truly excel in was in Mathematics which she really loved. She was able to have classes taught to her in Spanish as she got accustomed to English. For my mother, learning English was the hardest thing she ever had to and it was very stressful for her learning English in high school. When my mother came to America she had dreamed of having a better life, becoming a teacher, being able to study, be reunited with her parents but she realized she wouldn’t be able to have that dream
Many immigrants want to migrate to the United States to gain a better life for their families, for economic opportunity, and to escape political persecution. Many immigrants are working illegally and the government is not aware of how many of them are actually getting away with it, and others of course are being detained and isolated from their work force. Now so many illegal immigrants are being evicted easily from their work force or even from off the streets. In the book Disposable Domestics, Grace Chang explains that there had been sixty law enforcement agents from Virginia’s sheriff’s office who joined the federal agents. They were joined together by the Immigration and Naturalization Service to rummage around a construction site where workers were building a court jail. Later, agents had gathered one hundred employees together in an array against the wall, searching for undocumented employees. Soon after the whole fiasco, a deputy secretary of Virginia Health and Human Resources department was informed that fourteen people were detained and removed from their work force for not having documents. Grace Chang also discusses a case of a nominee for United States Attorney general. Zoë Baird admitted that she employed two undocumented Peruvian immigrants. We also learn that employers hire illegal immigrants for the benefit of saving money. If employers wanted legal workers they would be able to get them, but it would cost them more.
...e the money to pay for my lesson and attire, so they pulled me out of the activity. I was angry at her for that and assumed she didn’t understand how it felt to have something that you love be taken away from you, when in fact she knew all to well. I found out so much about my mother and came to accept that even though she did not do all the right things with raising me, or the things I thought she should have done she did her best and I grew up to be a very respectful, intelligent young lady.
At a young age, my teachers and parents taught me to believe that I could do and accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I grew up thinking that I was unstoppable and that the only limit to my achievements was the sky. However, during my second year in high school, I began to realize that I was not as unstoppable as I had thought. I began to experience the consequences of my parent’s decision of bringing me to the United States illegally. Among those consequences were, not being able to apply for a job, obtain a driver’s license or take advantage of the dual enrollment program at my high school, simply because I did not possess a social security number. I remember thinking that all of my hard work was in vain and that I was not going to

If they came to the United States illegally, they typically are deported back to their country of origin and are barred for 10 years. This doesn't change, regardless of if the undocumented immigrant had a family or career in the United States. The simple fact that you must leave your life and family behind for possibly 10 years is heavily discouraging for an aspiring immigrant to become legal. Upon doing so, undocumented immigrants must study for a citizenship test. The citizenship test may seem easy to a common U.S. citizen but can be difficult for someone who is new to the U.S. It's also very costly to take the test and is a very slow

Those blocks (block, block, block) in just plain gray (gray, gray, gray): the perfect surroundings to leave one's mind blank... or insane.
Summer was coming to an end, the night air grew brisker and the mornings were dew covered. The sun had just started to set behind our home; my father would be home soon. I walked into the kitchen only to be greeted by my mother cooking dinner. She stood there one hand on her hip, her one leg stuck out at her side, knee slightly bent, stirring the pot holding the spoon all the way at the tip of the handle. She looked as pissed off as could be. My mother always felt she could be doing a million other things besides cooking dinner. We sat there talking until I heard a familiar soft rumble in front of our house. The rumble was accompanied by my father fidgeting at the front door. His old noisy Bronco always made his presence known. He plodded down the hallway into the kitchen to greet my mother with a peck on the cheek. After one more quick stir she plopped a hot pad on the table followed by a pan of sliced meatloaf in sauce. The smell of the meat, potatoes, and veggies filled the kitchen instantly and the family gathered around the table. The meal was a typical one in our household, my mother who had a million other things to do that day, including having her own personal time did not feel like cooking a twelve course meal. However, my father who always came home expecting steak did not see the meal as appetizing as the rest of us.
As the contractions began to grip my stomach, I realized that my life would forever be changed. Knowing the old me had to die in order for me to become a new me. After being abandon at the age of five, I grew up feeling lonely and unloved. I was filled with so much anger, malice, hurt and unforgiveness that I held against others. I didn’t have the luxury of living in a stable environment, because growing up I was always living from home to home. I had no intentions to strive for better, I had begun to allow my upbringing to be my excuse. Years of disappointment resulted in me caring less in others desire. I couldn’t love anyone because love was never shown to me, but
