Focus on the right thing I always dreamed about the day I will be able to come to the United States. Everything started at the age of 15 playing a soccer tournament in my country against FC Dallas. I arrived at the stadium and saw a bus arriving at the same time, I wondered who was arriving in such a beautiful bus, it was the FC Dallas soccer team U15. They were all dressed up with the same uniforms wearing head phones and the coaches started to give water bottles to the players, I was amazed because they all looked like a professional team. Drinking water from a bottle something that I did only a couple times in my all life living in my country. My team had barely had enough uniforms for us to play the game and they even had uniforms to get
to the games. After I saw that I thought to my self I have to go to the United States, so I can feel as a professional player. Only with the idea of going to the United States I was excited until I started to tell everyone my desire. Everyone started to tell me to shut up pointing it out that we live in a third world country or I do not even have a job to pay the tickets or how hard it was to get a visa. I started to stop sharing what I wanted to do with people around me because I felt like the more they talk the less excited I would be. I knew I will have the chance to do it, so I just should keep working on it, because I have always believed when people focus on the decisions they made, a lot of changes will come to their life. But most of the people focus on the conditions, we talk about not doing something because of the weather, politics, economics or we did not have the chance to do it. It does not matter what your profession is, what car you drive or what kind of food do you like, we all have two options: to focus on your decisions or on your conditions, the circumstances on what is happening around you or what happened to you before. We normally put a limit for ourselves, one of the reason people do not reach their goals is not because they are not able to, but it is because they are not able to visualize themselves in the ideal situation where they want to be. Sometimes people do not even do something because they do not think they can be in the ideal situation. After four years I got the opportunity to come to the United States that is why I believe my decisions and not my conditions will determine my future.
On the other hand, this article relates more to the cultural and economic surroundings of an individual, both of these aspects can interfere with the American dream. Culture plays a part because it is something that a lot of people don’t understand and in America people are not as open about culture as they should be. The dream used to be something that people aspired to have, which is why America was the place to be but due to economic and other factors people who range from 18-35 have a different perception. People who fall into this category have actually witnessed the dream being something that either
The American Dream has been a fantasy for many people around the world. It has
I remember the first time I came to America; I was 10 years old. Everything was exciting! From getting into an airplane, to viewing magnificent, huge buildings from a bird’s eye view in the plane. It was truly memorable. After staying few days at my mother’s house, my father and I wanted to see what Dallas looks like. But because my mother was working the whole day, it wasn’t convenient for her to show us the area except only on Sundays. Finally, we went out to the nearby mall with my mother. My father and I were astonished after looking at a variety of stores. But after looking at different stores, we were finally tired and hungry, so we went into McDonald’s. Not being familiar with fast food restaurants, we were curious to try American
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.
Mostly anything you want to achieve requires time and perseverance it doesn 't just come to you easily. In America we all have dreams we want to achieve, a set of goals for the future. The American dream is in your perception, what you want it to mean for you. It’s what you want to consummate in America where you can 't anywhere else. How you can succeed in life enough to survive and be happy. The reality of the American dream is the essence of any person living in America, immigrant or not. Trying to achieve in life more than their parents did and to be successful with a prosperous life, but many people believe it can’t be achieved, but with assiduous work and determination you can make your
My American Dream is a mixture from the American Dream In the early 1930’s and now in 2015. My dream is owning a big white house with a white picket fence and to have the perfect family. It is also to have a job that pays a lot and to be treated as equals to not only men but to everybody. My Dream is that one day in the future I will get thru college and get a job as a psychiatrist and to eventually open my own place. My dream also is knowing that I can be myself and I will still be treated as an equal and nobody can change that. Overall my dream is to be able to make my mom and dad proud of me to show them that they raised and outstanding daughter that can make it somewhere, and to make a good example for my younger
Where I am from, coming to America is an unachievable dream for most people; however, that dream became attainable to me one summer. When my father told my family and me that we were moving to America, I was very excited and I thought about a lot of things. I thought about all of the opportunities there were in the U.S. and how rich everyone must be. I also thought that everyone in the U.S. lived in big houses, and every school had a swimming pool. Most of what I conceived about America came from watching television, and a month later I would find out how wrong I was.
I am an immigrant well, kind of; I wasn 't born here, but then again I wasn 't raised anywhere else. My parents brought me over when I was a child so they would be the immigrants since they made the decision to come here; I was kind of brought along. The year was 1994, I was 3(three) years old and my family and I had just been offered the opportunity to come to the U.S. my parents took it leaving everything behind. We were one of the lucky ones; our process was clean and simple. My dad worked for a religious organization, the Seventh Day Adventist Union in the Dominican Republic, as a canvasser; he sold books related to health and ministry. I don’t remember anything about those early years, but from that young age my life was impacted by the
My understanding of the American Dream has always had a positive connotation, until I reached junior year. My definition of the American Dream was that every person in the United States had an equal opportunity to make a difference and in doing so got to live a happy life. Up until my junior year, I have been blinded by the color of my skin to see a different perspective on life in America. Although I knew that I am privileged, I could not fully comprehend how people of different races and ethnicities lives could be different than mine. Once I began reading the texts assigned from the American Dream unit, I woke up from the dream that everyone had comfortable lives in the United States.
The American Dream is a personal thing. Every person’s belief or thought on what the American Dream is different than anybody else’s. There is one noticeable common thread between every conceivable Dream though: the dream is to live a better life socially, monetarily, or contentedly than your parents did. The conflicts at the time helps determine what aspect of life you wish to improve upon, but it will always be the same principal as long as America stands free.
Everyone has dream in life. Some people have a dream to visit different places and some people want to become successful in future. Likewise I also had a dream to come USA and to become successful in future. I was 17 when I came here with my parents. I heard a lot from my friends about their first day in USA. They said it was so sad however mine was the best day and the long day in my life which I can’t ever forget. I still remember that day in USA; I was sleeping in the airplane because I was so tired of traveling 18 hours flight. I was in a deep sleep suddenly I heard someone was calling my name because of that I wake up. It was my mom who was calling me. She told me to look outside I rub my eyes and looked outside. I still remember that moment when I first looked California, USA through plane window, those tall building which I saw in movies looks like a plane ground. I was so excited to be here in USA I feel like it is a piece of heaven.
I am certain that everyone, whether you were born in America or migrated here, have dreams. To the rest of the world, America represents that church on the hill. People from all over the world come to this country to have their dreams become a reality. You can ask any immigrant, “why you came to America?” and they might tell you, “Because this is the land of opportunities”.
It was about two years ago when I arrived in United States of America, and I still remember the day when I left my native country, Honduras. As I recall, one day previous to my departure, I visited my relatives who live in San Pedro Sula. They were all very happy for me to see me except my grandmother Isabel. She looked sad; even though she tried to smile at all times when I was talking to her, I knew that deep inside of her, her heart was broken because of my departure the next morning. I remember that I even told her, “Grandma, do not worry about me, I’ll be fine. I promise that I will write you letters and send you pictures as much as possible.” Here reply was, “I know sweetie I know you will.” Suddenly after she said that I started to cry. For som...
Even you are deprived of this Dream, that should not stop anybody from being able to attain the American Dream. In fact, I embody my own version of the American Dream by continuing through life every day with a willingness to achieve something greater. All through my high school career, I was driven by my will to succeed, I was able to accomplish many things. With hard work and determination I was able to be among the top of my class, and I was able to continue my studies at San Antonio College while also going to Thomas Edison high school. I competed in numerous competitions and have also done numerous community service projects around my city and in my neighborhood.
My heart was pounding as I boarded my flight leaving the Bangkok International Airport. A flight attendant in a grey dress with a red bow draped over her shoulder announced; “Welcome aboard flight AA350 to the United States.” My journey began that day.
