The Big Game I remember the year my Highschool team went to the state championship. My team the Kansas City Hawks went up against the twelve time champs The St.Louis Kings. What made them twelve time champs was us. Every time my team went to the championship The Kings met us there. All twelve times The King where the victors. January 25,2024 The Hawks were on a warpath for that Championship. My team had a great starting lineup. I was stating MLB while Jamie and James Anderson were on my side as OLB’s. Also we had Troy and Colt Williams as WR’s sons of Head Coach Matthew Williams. We had one of the best QB’s in the country Mark Halloway. The problem was if one of us get hurt it’s a guaranteed loss. The Kings had the best team in the league …show more content…
The Kings received the kick at the beginning of the first quarter. I ran down the field and tackled the runner so hard he fumbled. Colt picked it up and ran into the end zone for a touchdown! “Hawks up 7-0” the announcer said. Now we had to kick the ball back to the Kings, but this time they held onto the ball. But they walked into a huge trap. They just stepped on the field with the most aggressive defense in the country. Jamie, James, and I came on to the field confident knowing that we were going to either get 10 sacks or an interception in this drive. Both came true we had 12 sacks and a pic 6. Then came halftime we were excited with a 57-12 lead. We knew that the way the Kings were playing they were most definitely not winning. We just had to keep control of the ball and the Kings points. Coach was so happy he started crying. Halftime came to an end when we warmed up for the 2nd half. Coach had us warm up very different , he had us practice fumble recoveries and interceptions. We figured out why he was doing this because he wanted to play lockdown defense for the rest of the game. After warm ups we got in a huddle and yelled “Champs!” Finally it was time to play some more
In Feburary the Timberwolves had a six and seven record. The Timberwolves also reached a
The first day we got there we had started off so wrong by arguing. We weren’t doing well and we argued most of the time. Us as a team, we honestly made ourselves look bad in front of the coordinators and other teams that were watching us. The coaches had given us a real big pep talking about sticking together as a team to make us better. Although we didn’t think we needed it, it actually
Once again, the next year, I was on the All-Star team. This time we were all determined to stay in the tournament and win the championship. We started off lousy, though, making four errors in the first game and losing 4-0. We now had to win every game and beat the last team twice. We did defeat every team we went up against, including the team that beat us the first game, and once again ended up in the championship game.
To my surprise we defeated the team. Winning the first game of the season sparked a burning passion in the team to win and become the best. Our desire and lust to be the underdogs was fueled by our atrocious previous season. Game after game, we defeated our opponents, and game after game we became stronger and stronger. We began to believe in ourselves and instead of dreading the games, we could think of nothing else. I realized that I was wrong about my initial thoughts about our new coach, and that I should not have judged him without giving him a chance. Soon, our confidence grew to the point where we wanted to win the championship. Off the field, we had our doubts. We convinced ourselves that we would not be able to qualify for the championship, based on our statistics from last season. On the field, however, our play style could not be defended against, and our skill was unmatched. Every game we gave it all we had because we had nothing to lose. We knew going into the games that it couldn’t be worse than the previous season. As a result, we began to play for fun, and by doing so we got into our rhythm. Soon enough, we qualified for the championship, and we were going to the semi-finals. Our opponents were no match for us, and we won the game. Next was the finals. It was all surreal at the time. We were the worst team, or thought to be at least. We had done horribly the previous season, and not a single one of us could have even dreamed of this happening, but it did. We went into the finals knowing that no matter what happens, we had a wonderful season and we all had fun. We knew that even if we lost, we would be happy because we had fun and it was a great run. Despite the odds, we won the finals. We were the champions. I remember the game ending and joy rushing through my body. We, the underdogs, had won the
Kentucky’s Riley jumped before the ball was even thrown in the air, so we were given possession. Right away Coach Haskins told our big man David Lattin to throw down vicious dunks in order to send a message. And my goodness, did he! First time he got the ball, he seemed to stuff his armpits inside that rim! But we knew Kentucky wasn't just going to give us this victory, they've been here before, they know what they're doing. David Lattin ended up committing a foul on the Wildcat’s first possession. He needs to be smart! We need him. The game was about dead even until our star player Bobby Joe Hill had two consecutive steals and scored on both of them. The look on Adolph Rupp’s face was priceless. Before the game, he couldn't say one positive thing about Bobby Joe Hill, even acted like he didn't know who he was! Now Bobby is making Rupp’s guards look like JV! Our defense was doing a great job of getting a hand in the shooter’s face, and on offense our ball movement was superb. There were many possessions where we passed it 10 times before shooting. Going into halftime, we were up 31-28. The second half started out as a close one. The first three minutes Kentucky rallied to within a point of us, even tying us, but never got the lead from us. We eventually kept drawing fouls and ended up shooting 27 free-throws, making all but one. We had a nine-point advantage and we were able to control the pace until the final
After this great week of practice we had our first real game. We were all warmed up and ready to play when we decided to pray before the game began. I decided to step up and pray for my teams safety and for a win. I prayed we would all work together as a team and leave everything out on the court, and that’s exactly what we did. When we were losing and began to get down on ourselves I began to cheer each teammate on and remind them how hard we had been practicing. Everybody began to communicate with each other and we won the game!
We didn 't play the way we wanted. Even though we struggled, we still did some things right. If we just focus on the things we did well like; boxing out, playing tough defense, and rebounding, we can work around those things and build up the things that needed to be worked on. I know that we can step up and play at a higher level. We just have to make some fundamental changes and work on some things in practice and I think that it will help in our next game. We can hold on to this loss for the night but when you come to practice tomorrow we aren 't going to hang on to this feeling we need to shake it off and start to prepare for our next game. We just need to use this game as an opportunity to see what we need to work on and build off of that. Once we improve what we need to, I think we can get to the level of success we want.”
However, our opponents never let up. They saw our quality of basketball drop in spite of our overconfidence and bit at this opportunity. They began to cut down the lead, and quickly. Forty-one to thirty-four, with four minutes and thirty seconds left to go. We immediately realized that the game was not over yet, so we tried to pick up the pace once again. But all the rhythm and momentum we once had was lost. They took control of the game, scoring at will, and completely shutting us down. We could do nothing to stop the mounting comeback, and before we knew it, they were the team with the comfortable lead. Forty-three to fifty with only one minute to go. An undefeated team that had the championship in their hands…are now on the brink of elimination. Trailing for the first time ever we panicked, but it was too late.
It was a cold cloudy Friday morning. The day of the most nerve racking championship game had finally arrived for the two rivalry basketball teams, the Kress Lady Roos and the Hart Lady Horns. Weeks and weeks of hard, aggressive, closely won ball games one after another. Only a little bit of time after that to get ready for the most important game ever; this is the game everyone has been preparing for. A ton of exhausting conditioning and an enormous amount of shooting lead up to this moment. Every girl on the Lady Roos basketball team feels excited, pumped, and ready for the game later tonight. Constantly thinking and feeling overly enthusiastic of what the outcome of the game would be like. We all had predictions of what we wanted the game to be like but it was up to whichever team wanted it the most. With all the confidence and motivation that we had that morning we just wanted school to be over with already. It did not end quickly though. School was such a drag. We all could not wait for that three-thirty bell to ring so we could hop onto that big, yellow, warm bus. Finally, the loud, annoying bell goes off. It was now, “Game Time”! Only hours away until we would play the game of our lives. As we approached the humongous school our opponents were already there. We did not want to even look at them when we walked in. We did not want to be discouraged by what kind of players they were. As the minutes passed by it was time to get ready. We could already hear our loud and passionate fans approaching the gym. We love our dedicated and supportive Kress community. As the warm-up started we all became very anxious and jittery but knew we had to shake it off and stay focused. As we had our last talk with the coach and said our glorious ...
When I was in the sixth grade I was playing football for a scout’s team that I was on. We were on the road playing a much hated Greybull football team. We were wanted to secure an unbelievable season with an undefeated record 9-0. There was only one problem, we had to fight Greybull to cap off our perfect season with a record of 10-0.
I knew I had done my job, (with 33 points 10 assists and 11 rebounds) but I felt like the rest of the team had lost the game. What I didn’t know at that time was that the reason we were 59-1 was not because
I ran back down the court so I could stay on defense. The score was 20 to 11 Middle of the 2nd quarter. I got back on defense and the opposing team scored a 3 the score is now 14 to 20 but we were still winning. As we got the ball I could hear coach saying DUKE!!! DUKE!!! So I went to the right corner Tyse and mike were screening for Dakota and Marcus was in the left corner so once they screened for Dakota Marcus had to come to the left side block and Evan VDL was at the left screen so he went around Tyse and mike so he could go through the middle and Dakota would pass it to Evan and then he would score. That's what play we ran when we were on offense.
This team was undefeated in our league, with very coordinated movement and excellent fitness beyond ours. However, what my team and I lacked in skill was made up for in faith. We trusted in each other’s ability, and no matter the result, we knew that we’d give it our all. The teams assembled on the field, and the game began. The entire game felt like a stalemate. The ball went back and forth, with no goals scored. That is, until one of my teammates slipped on the ball. The ball flew so high, it soared over the goalie and scored us a point. The rest of the game was the longest seven minutes of my life, but we defeated the undefeated and progressed to the
Then one of the defenders took the kick and my team went down the field and scored a goal to make the score 1-2 and then the half was over. My coach said, “good job guys, let’s keep up the good work and stay strong and let’s hold them this half.”
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.
