The intense stares of people could be seen as we all walked up to the judging table. The only sounds heard, was the distant bleating of sheep, and the clucking of chickens. As I took a few deep breaths, I was now trembling. This was it. This was the Spring Livestock Show. My eyes slowly met those of my parents amongst the crowd. I felt my cheeks get hot, as if I had seen my crush. The judge finally reached my cage and said, “ Good Morning.” After realizing I had been spoken to, I roughly choked out, “ I’m Great.” He took my rabbit out of the cage, and continued to examine him. As my rabbit was placed back in the cage, I let out a sigh of relief, as I hoped for this all to be over. Before the big livestock show, walking throughout my house, …show more content…
I let out a huge sigh. It was about five o'clock in the morning, as I stepped into my garage only to be met by the red eyes of five hungry bunnies. After I refilled the water bottles and feeders, I sat down to watch the rabbits frolic and play. I let a tear fall down my face knowing, my rabbits wouldn't be here for much longer. Later that day, I arrived home from school only to find out my rabbits had gotten out of the cage! My dad walked outside and proceeded to help me clean up the poop and pee. He also helped me replace the litter boxes at the bottom of the cages. If he hadn’t been there to help me out, I don’t know how long I still would’ve been cleaning up. The next day, the rabbits escaped again, but this time their fur was black. This wasn't good at all. The livestock rules state, no color alterations to animals fur period. This black substance was not coming off, like I had hoped. my parents came outside, and they saw the madness. I turned around and asked, “What is this?” they both simply said with a dull tone, “oil.” My dad grabbed the keys to his vehicle, and drove to the nearest CVS. He returned with baking soda and vinegar. After a few minutes pass, we all were bathing the bunnies. My sister came outside, and helped me. so now, you are on the garage cleaning a bunny fur. It was hectic, but nothing could have been more heart-warming than my family and I together, cleaning bunnies and laughing. Exactly like old times, but most importantly, just how I liked it. It was the day before the show.
I couldn’t contain my excitement, I was literally having a “sugar rush.” I walked into the garage to get some items prepared for tomorrow. This was my first ever FFA (Future Farmers of America) livestock show and I was prepared. I looked at my precious male rabbit Scar, and boy he was a beauty. I admired him for a little while, until I noticed, and huge scar under his chin and on his stomach. I rubbed my eyes, to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. This was real. I wondered how he could’ve gotten so beat up before the show. I let out a huge groan, as I started to solve this problem. My whole family stepped outside to see what I was complaining about now. I told them to look at Scar, and they saw the terrible bruises. My sister suggested that I should’ve separated the males from the females, since this was the time of year their hormones start going loco. I slapped my face, and sighed, there was no possible way this could be fixed. My mom suggested I put vaseline on his cuts, and my dad told me to separate the males. I didn’t know that rabbit fur was at least ten dollars on the market, the judge was definitely going to notice. We all finished caring for Scar, as we put Scratcher in another cage, we all shared a quick laugh. Then, my mom started scolding me for not closing the cage door. We all just watched the rabbits, as I hoped for a win tomorrow, and I just knew they were going to be there for support, since it was my first time ever being in
FFA. Everything was tough from start. I went from being nervous to make auction!! this means I'll at least get some money for my rabbit. then, I was faced with the toughest decision of my life, either I give my rabbits up or they die. Tears formed at the corner of my eyes. I didn't know killing was a part of the process. With that being said, I turned on my heel and didn't look back. FFA truly makes or breaks a person, but I'm glad my family was with me the whole way through.
History tells about how a neighbor’s pig fell astray into the Nurse family’s yard and Rebecca Nurse yelled at her neighbor. Soon after the neighbor feel ill and died of a
The Mother is among a family of four who lives on a small farm and takes immense pride in what interests her, however her passion does not particularly lie in her two children; James and David; nor in her husband and their interests; but instead lies within her chickens. Though chickens bring the most joy to the Mother, they are not the sole animals that live on the farm. The animal that draws the most interest from the father, James and David is their horse, Scott. At a young age, Scott was used as a working mule for the family and grew up alongside the Father and two Sons. To the father, Scott was like one of his own sons, and to James and David, Scott was like their brother; but according to the Mother, “He’s been worthless these last few years”(Macleod, 267). Ever since Scott was young, he was a burden on the Mother’s lifestyle; she never took a liking to the horse even when he served as a source of profit for the family. The Mother had never appreciated the sentimental value that Scott possessed because he had never been a particular interest to her. Once Scott had aged and was no longer able...
Jim had just turned 30 and was feeling depressed for not having anyone in his life. After dozing on the beach awhile Jim awoke to an “unmistakable odor”, he’d been pissed on.(1108) He first heard Alena’s voice after cursing the dog. Alena is a very attractive girl and Jim fell for her immediately. Alena and Jim left the beach to go clean the piss off his clothes at Alena’s house. While waiting for the clothes to dry, they began a conversation about animal rights. Animal rights are a huge issue in Alena’s life. Jim never paid much attention to the issue but because of Alena’s beauty and kindness he was willing to listen.
It was a clear sunny day, spare the few clouds in the sky, the kind that children are so fond of pointing at and calling a dog or train, down the gravel driveway to the barn and house of Graystone stables. Up in their unseen perches, birds call out dutifully, whether they are asking for help or seeking a mate, their chirps and squawk all blend together to form a type of chorus. But every now and then a bird will quit the choir to seek the comforts of the grass. All of the birds were scared from the ground though when they heard the soft puts of a tractor passing by on its way to the barn. The rusted and dented John Deere tractor worked its way slowly to the barn, carrying in its front loader one black dog, panting happily at the prospect of
healthy rabbit hoping to produce good results. At this point the experiment took a dramatic turn, after
I rushed out to the truck as the horn blared. I threw my things into the truck and we went off towards the woods. I had to talk to Kevin about where the deer come from when i am sitting in the stand. He told me everything I needed to know about the place less than 10 minutes in the hot and humid truck. Well let's go back to see what led to this.
While I was doing my preceptorship, it was like nothing I’ve ever witnessed before. The lead Veterinary technician, Nicole gave me a wonderful tour of the building. Right before the tour she said that every day at 9:45am they have a little huddle with each department. During this huddle, each department shares what they have going on today, who is going to have a walkie talkie on them today, and who is going to be where. On the tour she explained to me how many different programs they do with all the animals. Also they don’t just work with dogs and cats. They have dogs, cats, pocket pets, and also birds. Going to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley was an awesome experience. First of all this place was huge. They have several different boarding rooms for all kinds of different animals.
As she was pressing her daughter’s hair she watched as the pot bubbled up with a funky smell. She couldn’t wait to let her daughter taste what it was, and swore that they were delicious! She grabbed a fork and wrestled with what looked liked rubber skin from a hippo, and pulled a piece of meat from out the middle of it and Gera liked to fell out. Gera told her mother never mind but her mother insisted. As she went toward the fork with her mouth open, eyes closed, and her nose plugged Gera spit it out before it could touch her tongue. Mother just laughed. Gera didn’t know if mother was so happy that she didn’t have to share or if she thought it was truly
I awake by the music playing on the radio on 92.5FM. The clock read 5 ’o’ clock in the morning. While I could be sleeping in like everyone else my age, I rise quickly to put on a pair of bootcut jeans and a tanktop with my long, blonde hair pulled into a low ponytail. Lastly, I pull my ponytail through my blue and yellow hat with Rockin W Ranch stitched across the front. As I’m leaving for another long, hard working day on the horse ranch, I slip on my well worn cowboy boots. My day involves hard labor like: bailing hay, grooming horses, working horses, throwing saddles on Appoloosa horses, different obstacles, and my favorite riding horses. Around one in the afternoon, my legs and arms begin to shake with fatigue, but I must push on. I will move forward to finish as strong as I started.
Going to Yellowstone park for the first time was very exciting and scary. First, my dad bought the tickets for my family. Then he drove us to the park.My dad drove the car for maybe 1 hour. Suddenly ,I saw many people stopped and looking along the road. I wondered why many people stood here. "What happened?" I asked my mom. I use the telescope to see what happened. And I saw something, something very huge, it was a bear! A grizzly bear! "Wow!"I gasped and get out of the car and takes a lot of Photos to thes big brown bear. Then I was saw something unusual, a guy was trying to get Closed to the grizzly bear! Someone shouted, "That guy is crazy!" Then I looking for that guy,now he and brown bear was only a few feet apart! Then the Bear stand
Some people think of them as animals. Some people think of them as objects. Some people think of them as friends. Then there are the few who think of them as family. Horses have always been like family to humans, except sometimes closer. There are many benefits to owning or being around horses. They come in many different colors. There is a multitude of breeds, also. Additionally, they have a long history with humans. Horses have unique behaviors. Showing horses has been the past-time or even career of many people. Furthermore, caring for horses can be a handful, but is definitely rewarding. Finally, riding horses is not just a hobby or a sport, but an action of your heart. Horses are wondrous creatures that have lived with man or thousands of years.
Sliding the barn doors open, I step into a warm, comforting environment. Musty straw mingles with the sharp aroma of pine shavings, complementing each other. A warm glow from sporadically placed incandescent lightbulbs richens the leather tack, all cleaned and hanging ready for the day's use. From it wafts the smell of a new pair of shoes. The fruity essence of "Show Sheen", applied after yesterday's baths, still lingers in the air. Even the harsh stinging scent of urine and manure is welcome at this early morning hour. Breaking open a bale of hay, I sense the sweetness of the dried timothy as it engulfs my olfactory system, making me wish my queasy stomach had not made me skip breakfast. I am nervous, as are many others. I know that the day ahead will bring excitement, dread, triumph, and defeat. The unpredictable nature of horse shows causes frenzied questions, like salmon spawning, to run constantly though my mind. Will the judge like my own particular style? What if the red flowers bordering the first jump spook my horse? What if a piece of paper on the ground blows into the ring? Will this horse show be a success? The outcome depends not just on me; but a...
Jane goes to work everyday at an animal-testing lab. She pours liquids used in eyeliner into the eyes of numerous albino rabbits. The rabbits' eyes are held open with clips so that for the 72 hour test period, the rabbits can't even blink. The rabbits' bodies are in a box so that only their head protrudes. Jane watches the rabbits and records how the rabbits’ eyes react. She observes as the rabbits’ eyes bleed intensely. Some eyes become extremely deteriorated, and some rabbits even become blind due to the toxicity of the liquid being tested. As she walks down the line writing down what each rabbit's reaction is, Jane notices many rabbits have broken their own necks trying to escape the horrendous pain ("Product...").
A few years ago, there was this kid show I watched every day called “BackYardigans”. It was a show about five animals doing a fictional adventure together, singing and dancing throughout the story. At the end of it, they would go home. The fun part was that it all really took place within their backyard. When I watched them do all the cool dances and sing the sweet songs, I was really happy. I was inspired to be just like them. I used to replay every dance they did and sing every song. I became very fond of the characters. My mom would hide in the kitchen to watch me in front of the television in the living room. My love of the show and all that I was leading her to take me to dance classes over at Cypress College. The group she put me in
I went out in my garden to pick some fresh fruit when I heard two squeaky voices. I immediately recognized two those voices, it belonged to those two animals that Gwendolyn and Augustus called children. I really did despise them. They would always try to eat my home, and never had any manners. I continued to watch them, - not in a pedophilic way. Gwendolyn and Augustus weren’t with t...
