On Friday the 13th, I was walking home from school at 5pm. At that time, it was really dark because of the time change. I was really looking forward to getting home and slumping on the couch, watching Season 2 of Stranger Things written by the best, Matt Duffer. I had already been walking for 10 minutes and my feet started to hurt. I didn’t have my phone with me, so I couldn’t text my mom and let her know where I was . I was extremely tired so I decided to sit on a bench for a three minute break. I knew I had to get home soon, or my mom would be worried to death. It was already dark so I quickly sat up and started walking the rest of the way home.
As I was walking, I started to get mixed feelings. I looked back and I realized I was
So, I had to sit myself down and have a talk with myself… strange I know. I needed to be corrected and still do at times. I desperately needed to change my view by asking myself,
Within the picture before me, I see myself. I was dressed in all black; black dress shoes, black pants, a black button-down shirt with a sleek black tie, a black suit jacket, black gloves, a black ski mask, and a black fedora to top it all off. I am not entirely sure what I was supposed to be. Was I a mobster, a thief, or even a personification of the night? The date was Halloween and I was sitting on a bench in front of my house, waiting to scare or give out candy to anybody who approached the door. That year, we had not decorated our house as well as previous years; but we still had a few last minute ideas implemented o let people know that they were welcome to approach. There was a rotating red beacon flashing, jack-o-lantern cutouts over the porch light, and creepy music playing loudly. Despite the decorations, not one person came to our house and hardly anyone had decorated for the holiday along my street. I remember feeling disappointment when I realized that nobody was going to¬¬¬¬ come and anger as people walked by our house without a second glance.
The living room was dark and the only thing you could see was the brightness of the TV. Also, I could still hear many people talking from down stairs, fire truck siren going off, and the city lights that were still shining bright. At the age of seven, on a cold Friday night in Brooklyn; my mom, cousin, and I started watching some scary movies since it was around Halloween. There was this movie called “Child’s Play” and as a child, I didn’t like the movie at all due to the fact that there was an ugly doll that was moving and killing people. During, that weekend it was showing marathons all weekend long since it was the Halloween weekend. The bed was pulled out with all the warm blankets and snacks besides us waiting for the move to start.
As I was getting ready for bed, I started thinking what it would be like to be in the TV show The Walking Dead? I really hate The Walking Dead, but it seems fun to be in a zombie TV show and it's the only one I really know of. I turned the TV just to see what was on and sure enough The Walking Dead was on. I was a little confused, so I walked towards the TV. I was a little skeptical, I touched the TV and it turned into a vortex and pulled me in.
Ok. One night my sister and I were at my father’s house. He lives in Kingsville on 10 maybe 9 acres of land in this [small pause, looks at ceiling] I wouldn’t really call it a farmhouse, just a kind of small house out there. The previous person who lived in the house was supposedly shipped to an asylum, for, you know, normal stuff [pause] schizophrenic or something. My sister and I were at the house one night and we were cleaning up the house while my dad was on some sort of job out of the state and my step mom was at work in the hospital. We were doing our stuff, and then the power flickered, and came back on. We didn’t think anything of it. Then, outside of the door, we heard a noise, kinda like a dog barking, but like, just enough not so that we knew it wasn’t. So, we hear this noise, and start to get fre...
You can’t see anything around you and there are animals that could attack you. I was on my way home riding my bike. I was as scared as a mouse being chased by a cat. Suddenly, I felt my hip vibrating. It was my phone and I got a text from my mother. She said, “Where are you! You are super late!” I had to stop and text her back because I knew she would get mad at me if I didn’t. Then she texted me again and I had to stop, and again, and again. With her texting me I thought I would never get home. Then I decided that I wouldn’t text her and try to get home as fast as possible. That was a mistake that I will never make
You would think that when I decided what to do with the rest of my life, it would be some profound moment when something huge took place. Nothing dangerous or crazy happened, but my heart was changed. Suddenly, everything made sense to me and I knew what journey I was going to take and why I was going to take it. The funny thing about all of this is, it was one kindergartner who opened my eyes. One five year-old who showed me what I’m destined to do for the rest of my life.
When I was five years old, I was terrified of being left alone. I was afraid to ever be by myself. I had to be around other people or I would have panic attacks. Our dogs somehow had gotten out of our backyard. My mom, my sister and I got in the car and drove around the neighborhood looking for the dogs. My mother drove by our house to check if they had got back yet. My mom told me to see if the front door was unlocked. As I was walking across the front lawn, she drove away. When I was walking towards the house I didn’t hear my mom tell me that she was going around the block and that she’d be right back. To say the least, I panicked. I remember running down the dusty dirt road after her brown jeep thinking that my mom left me and would never see her again. Feelings of fear and abandonment filled my body, and I ran down to the highway screaming with tears streaming down my face. When I finally got to the highway I sat down and started to sob. A lady in a blue car pulled over and asked me what was wrong. She was concerned so she had me get in the car and drove me to my house. We sat there in the car together until my mom came back home. My mom thanked the lady for being so kind, grabbed my arm and pulled m...
When I was a kid every weekend was the same, and I thought it would just stay that way. My best friend Tashawna lived across the street with her two brothers and after school on Friday we would go to her house and have a snack and play until her parents sent us outside. Then it was dinner and baths and deciding who’s house we were going to stay at. This Friday we were staying at me house which was my favorite because I got a bed and didn’t have to sleep on the floor since I was the youngest.
I had spent the night at a friend’s house and I couldn’t sleep so I called my mom to come get me and bring me home. On our way home I talked to her about how I wasn’t comfortable sleeping away from home and how it scared me. When we got home I rushed to the door because my grandma and my little sister Alyssa were waiting for me. As I opened the front door I could hear screaming and voices I had never heard before. My heart started racing and I couldn’t think about anything but that I wanted to see what was going on. I shoved the front door open and my mom rushed to be behind me. As we walked into the house I was my grandmother screaming at someone and hiding my little sister behind her. Alyssa looked terrified like she was being attacked. My mom
When I went to bed around 11 o’clock, I was crying, like I usually did, but this time was different. I couldn’t fall asleep and my cries got heavier. I began hyperventilating, which soon woke my little sister, who was sleeping in the bed above mine. She called out to see if I was ok, but I was unable to respond. She ran down the hall to my parents room and told them that something was wrong with me. My parents ran to my bedroom, which awakened my whole family. My mom was yelling at me to respond, but I couldn’t. I was paralyzed. There I was sitting in a ball on my bed, hyperventilating uncontrollably, with my family standing in a circle around me. They had no idea what was going on, and there was no way for me to tell them. My mom crawled into bed with me and the two of us just laid there. She was silent, just listening to my deep, powerful sobs. It took a long time for me to calm down. It had been 5 hours since I first went to bed. Around 4 o’clock was the time I was able to sit up and answer my mom’s questions with one word answers. we talked the rest of the morning, and I told her all about what had been happening for the past 7 months, except I left out the part about being suicidal. I couldn’t bear to tell my mom how bad I was, and that I never told her before.
Years ago I had the most terrifying, shocking day of my life. I had between seven or eight years when this happened. The day before the accident, all my family was at my grandfather’s house. We all were eating the food my mother and my aunts brought, telling jokes at the dinner table. Meanwhile, I was playing with my cousins in the backyard. Everyone was enjoying the family meeting. As the time passed by and everyone was about to go home, my mother suggested the idea that we all should go at my grandparent’s ranch next day, since everyone was in town we all could have the chance to go. Everyone liked the idea. It was the perfect time to go because it was a weekend. As they all agreed to go, they begun to decide who bring what to the gathering. Who would have thought that thanks to that suggestion, I would lead me to the hospital the day of the reunion.
My mom was incarcerated during the time so I lived with my Aunt Pompom. Aunt Pompom never let me and my cousins wake up late for school and if we did, we were driven. Coincidentally on this day both my cousin Zay and I over slept. So we jump up frantically and start putting on our clothes. In the mist of putting on my clothes I come on my menstrual cycle a week before it is supposed to come on. Then, to top that off when we tried to get my aunt up and she told us “yall over sleeping ass better walk”. She did not care if it was my birthday or not. So sadly Zay and I start walking and little did I know nature was also against me, it started to drizzle. I could feel every drip that dropped on me, I just knew I would smell like a wet dog once I got to school. The feelings I had walking were unimaginable I could have just clasped to the ground right then and there because there was no way my day could be enlightened it been ruined from the moment I
My mom and I arrived at my great aunt’s house in Ely, Nevada at around dinnertime. We both decided it was time to get some sleep due to our long drive. My mom had asked me to wake her up if my dad did not call or arrive by midnight. She was obviously very tired from driving and I had slept most of the way anyways. I could tell my mom was very worried about my dad because he was traveling on his Harley Davidson, and the roads were dangerous. My innocent ten-year-old mind did not think anything bad could happen,
