Hobbies come and go, though every now and then you’ll be lucky enough to find one that will stick with you forever. Back when I was a cute golden haired toddler, the very first activity I learned was how to paint using my fingers. At least that’s what my mom tells me; I really don’t remember all that well. I do remember always being a creative-minded kid. I used to build my own doll houses, and give my dolls “makeovers” using dollar store nail polish and Crayola markers. Being artistic isn't something I ever cared to be the best at, I just loved to participate in it. And to this day, I still love the action of painting, yet I have now learned how to use my own set of paint brushes. Research shows that hobbies help shape who we are today. Life …show more content…

The first thing you learn in roller derby is how to fall. The coach blows the whistle, and everyone falls down. Then you get back up on your skates - no matter how long it takes - without using your hands. Then you fall again. Being artistic as a kid slowly bled into more of my individual interests throughout my life. I now love to read, as well as roller skate, which compliments my love for art. Sometimes, I take a camera with me on my skating adventures to capture the different landscapes and architecture I come across. Something about being on skates makes taking photos more exhilarating. I believe I wanted to be a fashion designer as a child, but that has definitely changed. I'm a very indecisive person and still am not currently sure of what I exactly want to pursue in my future. What I do know is that the hobbies I have developed throughout my lifetime have helped me evolve into the person I am today and the person I will be. Though some may find the unknown scary, I find the unknown exciting. I hope to fall in love with more hobbies that help shape my being.. For instance, learning how to roller skate has given me confidence I never knew I was capable of containing. Seeing folks turn their heads just to look at my maneuvers is not something I ever believed to be a positive thing. Then I realized the beauty of watching random smiles come my way as I swiftly glide past, whilst slightly bouncing to the music of one of my favorite songs. It is a reminder to me that people need to connect with others in-person rather than look at screens for the vast majority of their days. Sports are a great way to be better at connecting with our natural surroundings. Let’s bring back roller skating to help be a part of the connection. I’m in the
