Writing Prompt We all have those days when we try so hard on finishing our tasks that we have failed it afterwards. My friend Jessica and I would always compete each other everyday, since we are pretty good at it. We were pretty good at competitions since we are teenagers and know how to do what many adult athletes can do which was anomalous. Nothing was a problem because everything we did was so easy. We were good until there was one thing that made us fail and we were very disappointed in it. Every morning, Jessica and I would see who can get out of bed the fastest and get to the bus stop on time. We usually like to hang out a lot in school since we are in many clubs and sports. Our favorite sport is track because we like to run. If we had nothing to do in class, then we would just draw. In art class, we would get all A’s on our work. We were very creative artists. Our drawing skills were superior to the others. Jessica and I decided to try a subject that …show more content…
we have never thought about doing and that was in a cooking class. Our teacher, Mrs. Martinez introduced herself to the class saying that she has always loved to cook ever since she was a little girl. It was an interesting story since I have always wanted to cook for myself. The first thing Mrs. Martinez taught us was how to cook eggs. I was thinking that it was not going to be hard since it’s the easiest thing you can make. Jessica said, “don’t worry it’s going to be a piece of cake.” “I know right lol,” I said. So we listened to Mrs. Martinez and saw what she was doing so we decided to cook, since that’s what we are supposed to be doing. We wanted to make a scrambled egg, so that way we can mix our ingredients in and make it have some flavor. We turned the stove on medium and waited till it was hot enough, then put our egg on the pan and waited. We have made a deluge with our egg. Turns out that when we were finished cooking the egg it, then tasted disgusting and plus it wasn’t cooked right. So that means we have failed it. Our lives were ruined and destroyed. Mrs. Martinez came over and tasted it and she gave us an F. She probably got sick from it. Jessica and I were very disappointed in ourselves. Once we failed that, we haven’t spoken ever since that day. We were depressed and didn’t want anybody talking to us. Everybody in our class could not repress there laugh when they saw us fail at cooking an egg. This is why we let our parents cook and not us. We just play sports, so we don’t need to be cooking at all. Weeks have gone by and we had to cook another item. Jessica and I didn’t want to cook anymore. If we didn’t cook, then we would have got in trouble for not doing the assignment. So we had to do it over if we were going to fail this one. The item we were going to make is pizza. Which like I said on the other one, it should not be that hard this time. We made our dough, and then we put it in the pan. Then we put our ingredients on it. Our pizza looked descent this time. So then we put it in the oven set to 375 degrees. Forty minutes has gone and we stand by and watch how other people make their pizza which didn’t look so well. Then Jessica said, “What’s that smell. It smells like something is burning.” I also smelled it and thought about our pizza. “Guess what Jessica?” I said. “What?” she said. “OUR PIZZA IS BURNT!!!! OMG…..,” I said. We should have never gotten in this class since we can’t even cook. Jessica and I were about to quit cooking for good. We would never quit on anything because we weren’t quitter, but cooking made us quit. Mrs.
Martinez was disappointed and belied so she decided to give us a second change which was very nice of her since we are all A’s student. This time I will watch the pizza since I like to eat pizza. We set the oven to 350 degrees, and then made our dough. We sprayed some can spray on the pan and put it in the pan, then put our ingredients and put it in the oven. We watched it to see how long it takes to cook the pizza and it takes like 30 minutes. Then we used mittens to get it out and our pizza was an A plus. We were very gingerly with our pizza. Mrs. Martinez thought our pizza was equitable so we passed. Everybody in our class had poise for us and we were so happy to hear that. We would have never had a second change to fix our mistakes without Mrs. Martinez. She knew that we were having a difficult time since we are beginners and that when she was our age she was just like us. She also said that practice makes perfect which is true. Mrs. Martinez has never given up on us, so we will not give up on
her. So if you like to try new things don’t quit because it takes time to make something right. Everybody is a winner at some things, but they shouldn’t be a quitter at everything. If you can get inspired, be inspired by people who will never give up on their dreams. Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, then you can do it.” He also said, “Keep Moving Forward.” Meaning if you can’t do it, then keep trying until you get it right.
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
As I’m sitting here typing this, I thought this assignment would be easy but it’s not. How do you explain who you are in a paper? Where do I begin? Well, for starters, my personality, ambitions, and what I love doing should be the best standard for defining my character. One should never be anxious if they do not know everything about themselves, as we are constantly learning and discovering new features of ourselves. Personally, I am satisfied knowing my friends are worth it and consider me an asset. I’m the shortest one in my group of friends which puts me somewhat the end of the ladder. Someone might judge me just because of the way I look or act but, if they could just get to know me even more and see my personality they can see me in a whole new way.
that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field but I was not sure
Throughout my life I have failed many things. Some of them were big things and others were minor ones. A great example of a failure I had was my first wrestling match. I started participating in wrestling my sophomore year of high school, and I had no idea n how to do anything. I would go to the wrestling room every day after school to practice and try my best to get better. The practices were not easy, it required a lot of mental and physical strength to be successful at it. When I started I was having a hard time getting used to it because my mental strength was not as strong as my physical strength. Eventually I got used to it and practices became easier. I started to get my confidence during the practice wrestling matches we had with fellow
It's hard for me to say where I'll be in the years to come, already my life has strayed from the path I once thought it would follow. However, that doesn't change my motivation or determination to reach and excel at my personal goals. My whole life I've endured a system that dictated what should be important to me, and while it's helped me learn the practical skills I need outside of an academic setting, I have a passion to grow further from what's expected of me, and so with much enthusiasm I look forward to attending college in which I hope to achieve more by constantly learning and expanding my personal knowledge.
In the United States, fine art education in public schools has been a controversial topic for years. Due to funding, imagine your child had to choose between art or math. Well of course a parent would choose a math course because they would not survive in their future without counting. Although, fine art gives an opportunity for a student to express themselves with their thoughts and feelings through the participation of the fine arts. As in today’s society, everything is considered “art”.
Throughout my life, I have loved to draw. Due to my love of drawing, I decided to take a career in something that has to do with art. A few things have happened in my life that has caused me to take this path. Three people that I have interacted in some way, are the reason for my choices.
There are many things that have molded me into the person I am today such as being born into a family with four children. With three siblings, I have been forced to be able to work out problems from stealing each other’s toys to having to rush to the emergency room to get stiches because my brother chased me around the house and I tripped. My mother, father, brother, and two sisters were all born in Pennsylvania and I am the odd ball and I was born in Adrian, Michigan. From when I was a child I always loved being involved with sports because of my competitive nature. I grew up playing soccer and having success with that but then my love changed and I began playing lacrosse and football. I started playing lacrosse in middle school and played
Finally Friday came. The tournament lasted for about three hours, peppered with constant complaints, arguments, and threatened fist fights. To my own disbelief, we lost -- by one point! For the rest of the night I rationalized our loss by creating stories of how they must have cheated, accented by remarks about the character blemishes of their mothers. I just kept saying that we were still the best and it didn't matter that we had lost. By the end of the night no one was speaking to me, not even my partner in the competition. I finally snuck off and went home. All the way, I could feel myself choking on ...
When thinking of school, one might imagine a place filled with students lugging around heavy backpacks full of math and English homework, teachers giving lectures on the Civil War or the functions of the cell, and classrooms full of desks and dull decorations. But, it is exactly this mindset that proves America has gone wrong when it comes to education. Instead of a learning environment in which students are constantly regurgitating information, school should be a place where new and creative thinking is encouraged. In order to achieve this, special attention should be brought to the one area that specializes in creativity the most, fine arts education. This includes drawing, painting, sculpting, theater, and music, and while some would consider
There have been tons of things that I have learned and been taught in my life, by a number of people such as family, teachers, or even friends on occasion. The things they taught me vary from math and other related subjects to just some truly simple yet meaningful life lessons. However, there is nothing quite as unique, quite as special as a person teaching themselves a life lesson. It really is an amazing accomplishment for a person to teach themselves something. It is not quite as simple as another person teaching them something because it is not just the transferring of information from one person to another. The person instead has to start from scratch and process the information they have in their mind in order to come up with a new thought
Ever since I was little I’ve been what you would call a “high achieving” kid. I did well in school, I did well in sports and I did well in my community. I was always the first one to class, and the last one to leave the field. I was the kid that all my friends’ parents compared their children to. I was the kid with a room full of trophies and awards. In my mind, the worst possible thing I could do was disappoint the people around me. In elementary school I was involved in every club imaginable. I was in the band, I played in the orchestra, I sang solos for chorus, I was in the math club, I was president of student council, I played travel soccer, I was involved in every activity possible, and I excelled in all of them. This
I am sentimental, out-going, indecisive, understanding, curious, naive, lazy, and young. I want to be ... , well a lot of things, and growing is discovering what they are. I feel people cannot see the potential within, although there is no one to blame but myself. I look to others for approval instead of to myself. I aim to please; it leads to approval. I don’t like to discuss my faults; I pity myself.
The school ended up opening up an after school program for students who were interested in art. Expressing creativity is one of the most productive leisure activity because one is being in touch with their feelings. Creative work also help to open your mind more and makes you go out of the box and creating an outcome that gives expression to insight (Cordes, 2013, pg. 4). Going out of the box and building something out of your imagination can help in the long run when you need to implement creativity as an adult. I ended up joining the after school program and I would spend most time there drawing and creating stencils. At that time I was also experimenting my sexuality so I kissed a couple of girls during that year and I ended up being really attracted to girls. In the art class I attended after school I started working on a stencil of a girl with a mini skirt bending over with her thong showing and the caption said “Peek-A-Boo.” Part of me was still a rebellious teen that wanted to put my art all over the school to upset the principal. When I started working on the small details of the piece I got really creative with the technique. I spent most of my time working on my art and I was really proud of that work. The principal and my parents were upset with my work but I wasn’t. In that moment is where I learned how to do
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
