A fictional romance novel that held no interesting basis behind it, other than the guy was a stalking disturbing pedophile, in an opinionated statement of course. In her essay, she demonstrates her affection in reading using hyperbole. Dove states, "In books, I can travel anywhere, be anybody, understand worlds long past and imaginary colonies in the past." Although it has only been 2 weeks that I have been attending in this writing course, I have already expanded my knowledge greatly and gained plenty of courage in a very little time period. I am not an avid reader, nor do I ever bother to take my own time to go out and pick up or buy a book, but throughout the weeks, I have been assigned to read a new article every week, and each article has made me realize the power and potential reading has to a single person. How it can change someone’s life drastically. I mostly enjoyed reading “The Importance of the Act of Reading” by Paulo Freire, “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie, and “All Writing is Autobiography” by Donald M. Murray.

The national curriculum is made up of reading, writing, and arithmetic. Emphasis must be placed on language and communication for education to be able to reach its growth potential. Writing is used significantly in our culture to communicate with one another. Students use writing everyday as a tool to show comprehension and communicate their thoughts. Although writing is a time consuming activity the education system needs to place more emphasis on writing.
Reading and writing is not usually a popular subject among students. Every student has a unique experience in how the student developed reading and writing skills. Each student has different teaching styles that they react positively towards and other styles the students react to negatively. How a student responds to the teaching styles they are presented with may create students who excel in reading and writing or create students who struggle in these subjects. Students who have had excellent teachers with creative teaching styles that the student responds well to may develop a love for writing and reading because that student was presented with the proper tools, in an effective way, that will create a student who can learn, grow and succeed.
For almost my entire life, I have lived happily in Ethiopia with my parents, my sisters and my brothers. Because my dad is extremely religious, I started practicing Christianity at an early age. My father took the whole family to church services almost every day. He was very strict and all of his rules are Bible-based. He read the Bible aloud to us and everything was related to God’s word. He made us read the Bible again and again. Our dad was always telling us, “No sex before marriage”, which is biblically right. We were always mindful of the Bible’s teachings, which helped me deal with the emotional and physical trauma of when my ex-boyfriend raped me.
