I chose three pieces of writing from the beginning, middle and end of weekly writing. I personally like to write dumb funny story’s. They are funny because they are random, and you never know what to expect next. This writing style shines throughout all of my weekly writing stories. An example is in my first writing piece it starts as a book transcript of a book about trolls, followed by a man who took in a drunk Gandalf. The stories are unplanned. I chose my first weekly writing piece as it showed that people liked my quirky writing style. Originally I was embarrassed of the writing, as I thought people would brush it off as stupid. The first work I chose was my first paper I had written in college. The literacy narrative which I had titled Think Quick, was a challenge for me to write. I would normally sit down at my computer and just start writing my paper from the introduction to conclusion. This time I decided to try something different, I started with the body paragraphs. I also found it hard to incorporate someone else’s work into my paper. Once my paper was finished, I read over it to find mistakes and correct them.
My relationship with writing has been much like roller coaster.Some experiences I had no control over. Other experiences were more influential. Ultimately it wasn’t until I started reading not because I had to read but because I wanted to, that's when my relationship reached change. I would have probably never cared about writing as I do today if it weren't for the critics in my family. When I was a child, my aunts and uncles always been in competition with who's child is better in school. I have always hated reading and writing because of the pressure to prove my family wrong was overwhelming for me. I had to prove them wrong and show them that I was capable of being "smart" which according to them was getting straight A's in all your classes.
Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street by Roni Schotter is a great text for discussing where authors get ideas from. This text is excellent for teaching ideas because students can relate to the character. The story is about a student who is given a writing assignment. The teacher informs students to write about what they know and the story that follows is a great example to use when teaching students about where authors get ideas.

To begin with, my favorite story, To Build A Fire. This story was about a man and his dog companion. They went on a trip walking in Alaska, in the snow. The man was warned not to travel alone, for it was far to cold and something bad could happen. But the man insisted that he would be fine. He was traveling to see some people and he would make it. But the man did a numerous amount of bad things. He forgot to eat, and to build a fire. But when he did build a fire it was right under a snowy tree. In the end the man died, it was sad but quite a good story to read.
Writing About Writing A person packing his suitcase; a woman yelling at a man; a baby crying. It was “that day the weather turned and the snow was melting into dirty water.” The bare facts used in the short story “Little Things” by Raymond Carver in his opening paragraphs with dull imagery, emotional diction and dramatized ideas provide evidence that this piece is an example of excellent writing.
Now for why I write. I rarely write for fun, which probably should change for the better, but that is not unlike many. Like many I write, when I have to write for school or any other academic activity. Writing interest for these assignments only go as deep as the material for the or the assignment itself actually goes. If the topic is interesting I will be much more excited to write about
Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
Writing, to me, is a fun way to escape the harsh reality of being an overworked, hormonal high school teenager. When I was younger, I loved to write short stories in an old spiral notebook, and I hoped to become published one day. I loved to have my mind wander to the furthest corners of the galaxy to jot down a few magical stories. Now, I still uphold this silly childhood dream of mine. I still keep a small journal full of funny quotes, funny recollections that happened throughout the day, any worries, hopes, and goals that I may have. I love to shape words and sentences into works of art.
My pieces of writing more “how-to’s” instead of creative non-fiction. Instead of writing stories based on the experiences I had, I was writing directions for how something should be done and I was included experiences I had as support. I mostly struggled to include imagery. It was difficult to tell where I should include images. I didn’t want the images to take away from the subject. I eventually found out how to use images to support my subject and tell more of a story.
Over the past 11 weeks we have been given different writing prompts, for my portfolio I chose my favorite 4 pieces. The first piece I chose to share is my personal narrative. I chose my personal narrative as my first piece of writing because I think it gives the reader a good idea of who I am as a person and also as a writer. This narrative gives the reader an in-depth look at one of the most important times in my life. I think it shows the kind of emotion and thought I put into my pieces of writing. I was able to express my thoughts and feelings about my father’s passing and the things that happened after through this writing. During the semester, the daybook has been a terrific, educational tool for improving my writing skills. This past spring, I had english at the high school, but have not written much over the summer. My writing skills were neglected until I began writing in the daybook. After a couple of weeks of writing, my creativity began to flourish.
