I attended George Washington High School for four and that school has taught me that teachers get no respect. Every day I would go to class and I would see the students ruining around not listening to the teacher and trying to start fights with them. The teacher tried their best to teach the students but in the end noting worked. So in the end the teachers gave up as well and started caring less about the students and let them do whatever they wanted to. I saw it as unfair because their were some kids who wanted to learn but it got ruined by others. I would see kids walking around the halls instead of going to class or skip class to go out and eat. We were not allowed to discuss lessons, and on math assignments, if we did the problem in a way that was different from the way we were taught, it was automatically marked wrong. We were taught in a similar fashion, frequently being told to shut up or whatever we had to say wasn 't important if the teacher didn 't want us talking. One shining example of the lack of respect our staff had for the students was an assembly that occurred in fourth grade. A student would not stop talking and the principal yelled at him to be quiet. The student stood up and threw a temper tantrum. The principal then grabbed him, put him in a headlock, and said, "Son, I swear to God, if you make my back go out, I 'll make you regret it!" These experiences lead me to believe teachers saw us as little more than an obstacle - something they had to overcome each day - instead of what we really were: young children, whose minds they needed to protect and mold into the future of this
When one thinks back to all the school years between kindergarten and high school, they will not remember the name of every teacher they have ever had without hard thought. There are always going to be the teachers that stood out from all the rest for one reason; they connected with their students. In my experience, the majority of my teachers were dedicated and caring people to their work. I previously thought that maybe I had gotten lucky with my instructors in which classes I participated in, or maybe I am a more open minded person than those who criticized our educators. Now I see that teachers are scapegoats for other complications outside of their control. Even if some are no longer of a higher caliber, a reason for the decline could be disheartening caused by their limited resources and general disrespect year after year. It was back when I was 14 years old in the 8th grade, when I got an opportunity to take a trip to Washington D.C. to learn, explore, and meet new people in a different state. There was a long way to go, for me to be able to be chosen to go on the trip. This trip was competitive because only 10 students would get to go. When I was entering into High School, I tried to join as many clubs as I can, since I wanted not only to be superior in grades, but also extracurricular activities. So as usual, I joined Key Club. At first volunteering at the events was fun, but as I went to more events, it felt as if it was a chore. I did not feel any passion; it was rather tiresome.
High school is meant to be the time of your life, but for most seniors just like me it can be some of the most emotional and crazy time. The things in my past make me who I am today, and the things I do now are the first footsteps into the future. I’ve learned a lot about myself in these past four years, and I still have so much learning to do. This is my high school story; the good, bad, and the ugly.
Correcting this issue will be difficult, but possible. Throughout high school I did not have the best values that I have today. I did what other kids thought was cool like any other high school student trying to fit into a new place. In the future, I plan on pursuing a career in education. I plan on demonstrating the values of equality very thoroughly. Making a safe and pleasant environment is what I am hoping to accomplish. A teacher can impact a student’s life heavily. For example, my sophomore year theology teacher Mr. Finnochio, was a man of integrity. I never met a nicer, more thoughtful person in my life. The way he spoke to the class and respected everyone else’s opinion was extraordinary. He never judged or excluded anyone from anything and he impacted my life greatly. Lastly, as a student myself most of Ellen Glanz’s points in “What’s Wrong with Schools?” are accurate. Classroom teaching methods need to be changed. Students shouldn 't be "doing as little as necessary to pass tests, using tricks to avoid assignments or manipulating teachers to do the work for them." Although teachers should demand more of their students it is essential for both the educator and his/her students to be on the same page. Going on this trip would be a very cool experience and I would be extremely thankful if I got this scholarship. My mom always talks about what cool things I may see if I went on the trip. Also, she talks about what amazing monuments there could be and what cool things we may hear about. We knew from the beginning we heard about the Washington DC trip we were going to go, but then we ran into some problems. My sister was got ill and she kind of ran into some problems with herself which caused problems with us. My mom had to take her kids while she went off to get some help, unfortunatly this caused problems all around. During my time here at Hudson High School, I have learned so much about what I could achieve for myself and I have developed new passions I continue to chase. I have succeeded and grown in many different programs, clubs and on the field hockey team. I have also developed a strong work ethic by being employed almost entirely through these four years.
Last week, My family and I took a trip to Washington, DC. We drove there, which was a fairly terrible experience, but DC itself was nice.

School should be a time to make mistakes in a safe environment that they can learn from, not a place that they are petrified to make a mistake for fear of retribution on their grade cards. Its time to change the school system to save future students from becoming stress crazed and to let them know that there is more to this world than a grade card and in the long run it is a very small fraction of life.
Every teacher I had was encouraging, loving, and supportive of each student that they taught. If one student falls behind, the teacher makes extra sure to teach and re-teach the subject until it is understood. Once I entered the fifth grade and into middle and high school, each teacher that I had tried to be encouraging, loving, and supportive of their students; however, my teachers often had too many students to give the individual attention that so many children need. When I began to fall behind in certain subjects, my teachers tried to help but were often unable to teach and re-teach, because they had no choice but to continue on with their lesson plans. I continued to fall further and further behind; therefore, I had to spend many hours after school working on my homework problems with my parents.
Maybe it is because that parents often say “spare the rod spoil the child”, and Instructors often time get to use to how they are treating their child so they’ll likely to do the same to their students. Or some instructor may just simply lost their work ethic. I think all of the teachers should respect every student, and every single student should be treated equally.
