What, in your experience, has been the BEST part of participating in your virtual Writing Team?
The best part of participating in my virtual Writing Team is the constructive criticism I have learned to receive from my fellow classmates. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. It is something that I have never done online and I am glad I was introduced to it this year! It helped me better understand the lessons we covered and I liked to have the ability to discuss our writing with our classmates. At first, I felt as though my team members did not like my writing. I soon realized that they were helping me become a better writer. Everyone in my Writing Team participated which helped make it a wonderful experience.

...out homework, which was a huge stress relief. The class also offered how to write the base foundation of any paper, which is significant to become a great writer as well as to write a flawless paper. Also, the group activities allowed us to get closer with our classmates. However, I feel like some of the activities we did were mediocre and ordinary. But it is hard to tell what experience each student received from their high school. Some knew more than others, and I was just more grateful with the education I obtained from high school. I was also not fond of buying the books for the class, when it was not a necessity for class. We did not put much use into the books, and they were relatively expensive. I do recommend the class, especially to incoming freshman. It is a great foundation for legitimate college writing classes. I enjoyed learning from you Mrs. Penwell.
In general, I like this course because it taught me a lot of great things, such as how to revise the essay in order to make it better. My writing has improved a lot throughout this year, I learned how to organize my essay’s structure, using the transition sandwich to perfect my writing. In the future, I hope to continue developing all the skills that I learned in this English class, and I will continue to go to the Writing Center to ask for help to perfect my writing. However, it is the end of the year, but it does not mean that this is the end of my writing.
My relationship with writing has been much like roller coaster. Some experiences I had no control over. Other experiences were more influential. Ultimately it wasn’t until I started reading not because I had to read but because I wanted to, that's when my relationship reached change. I would have probably never cared about writing as I do today if it weren't for the critics in my family. When I was a child, my aunts and uncles always been in competition with who's child is better in school. I have always hated reading and writing because of the pressure to prove my family wrong was overwhelming for me. I had to prove them wrong and show them that I was capable of being "smart" which according to them was getting straight A's in all your classes.
Throughout this course, we had multiple assignments that were aimed at improving us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning. Our weekly craft lessons have introduced us to multiple writing strategies. These strategies have helped turn my papers from elementary papers that were written below my expected grade level to papers more on par with my peers.
I learned from my peers that I am a better writer than I thought I was and that increased my confidence in my writing ability. This didn’t just teach me about myself; I learned how to write several different types of papers. I improved throughout the semester as I learned how to analyze for rhetorical appeals, research an issue, and evaluate a topic. I am glad that I was able to learn a lot from this class, as well as read my peers work. It was intriguing to see how others write and what topic are important to them. Lastly, I was proud of all my work that I accomplished in this
I was placed in a group consisting of Shiralee Chokshi, Wendy Cournoyer, Antonio Diaz, Chris Dominguez, Jamie-Lee Grant and myself and we called us “The A-Team”. We worked as a virtual team, which is defined as, “a team that relies on interactive technology to work together when separated by physical distance.” (Ivancevich, Konopaske & Matteson, 2015) Virtual teaming, via the Internet, is becoming popular as the evolution of the
A virtual team is a group of people working interdependently via various types of electronic media across organizational and geographical boundaries for a shared purpose (D’Souza & Colarelli, 2010). Research indicates virtual teams are becoming increasingly popular in organizations across the United States and the world (D’Souza & Colarelli, 2010; Rusman, van Bruggen, Sloep, & Koper, 2010). These teams vary in size, degree of geographic dispersion, prior shared work experience, nature of assignment, and expectations of a common future (Rusman et al., 2010). Although virtual teams have potential advantages like the removal of physical boundaries, the ability to form new partnerships, and optimization of competencies (Chinowsky & Rojas, 2003), they also introduce many challenges that may not be as prevalent in traditional teams.

Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.

I really enjoyed the group discussions, as well, and I sort of wish there was even more of a focus on them. Reading my peer’s perspectives and contributing my own thoughts about their posts helped me to consider the subjects from different angles and challenged me to think about the topics more discerningly. There were quite a few times where, after responding to my peers, my original post felt narrow in scope. That give-and-take process helped me to develop and clarify my
Every time we finished writing a draft, professor Gerber asked us to do the peer review. I think that was really helpful, because I could learn something from others opinions, then revised it to make it better. Another reason I liked that was I cou...
There are many different types of events that shape who we are as writers and how we view literacy. Reading and writing is viewed as a chore among a number of people because of bad experiences they had when they were first starting to read and write. In my experience reading and writing has always been something to rejoice, not renounce, and that is because I have had positive memories about them.
From the teamwork discussion with my classmates both inside the classroom and outside I gained a new viewpoint on asking for others to critique
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
