The “‘Vacation”
One dazzling sunny day, my family and I took a vacation to the Bahamas. Once we got there, we took it upon us to go to the beach! As we were hiking along the beach we felt the cool breeze and could smell the salt water. When walking a little further, we spotted the enormous rocks.Water splashed on the rocks making a sploosh-sploosh sound. We noticed a cave-like formation in the rocks and in searching for an adventure, decided to explore. As we curiously went inside, a pathway caught our eyes. My annoying brother went ahead of us only to find a sign that said “Go no further.”
“I don’t see anything bad about going further.” Mom exclaimed.
“Yeah me neither!” I shouted.
As we continue on, we saw the ocean in an opening in the

“ Let's do it!” My dad excitly spoke.
I felt queasy at the thought of going through the opening and seeing the rough waters below my feet. As I stepped through the cave opening, I noticed we were on a cliff. Oh no-I thought to myself. I happen to be the only one in my family who's scared of hights. I could feel butterflies fluttering through out my stomach. My dad and my brother instantly shouted,“ Lets jump!”
All of a sudden I look down and see my brother and father splashing in the water. Blood was pumping through my head, I had a terrible headache. I can’t do this I thought. My conscience was echoing in my head, Don’t do it. Then my mom jumped in after them. I was the only one left on the cliff and could hear my brother shouting from below, “You’re a sissy!”
That's when i conquered my fears and jumped. The water seemed to be swallowing me and the next thing I knew I was in the water with my family. I couldn’t see the bottom. Though the depths of the ocean frightened me, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. As I gazed into the sky, I saw storm clouds traveling towards us. I started to tell them that we should turn back, but hesitated not knowing if they'd think I was just
...trength completely fails and he lets go and starts to drown and sink. to not save him but to continue to paddle and get to safety. I hold back tears with fire and brimstone and I start to paddle as if the devil were behind us even though I am feeling drained as well. After about another hour or so it seems we start closing in and my father feels sand brush his feet. We both let out a huge sigh of relief as my father finally touches the bottom. still being about a quarter mile from the shore we do sort of a “Island hop” with the sand patches and we make our way back from where we came. Once we get back we decide thats enough beach for the day and go home. Feeling victorious and defeated at the same time I still hold a scar within me. and within that scar there is a small dark hole within me that is afraid of the ocean. And to this day I fear I will forever be afraid.
This past summer, my family and I went on a cruise to the Bahamas. We had just docked at the second port, Nassau, and were preparing to exit the gigantic ship named the Carnival Fantasy. Once we got to the city, I noticed it was bustling with people of all different backgrounds and cultures. The roads were narrow and some even hilly. I remember coming to the conclusion that a lot of people in the Bahamas must have road rage what from the blaring car horns I could hear around every corner. My family and I were walking along the sidewalk, glancing into shops as we passed them. The weather was unbearably hot, but growing up in South Carolina allowed my family and I to push onward with our adventure. The sun burn on my back started to pulsate in pain any time the sunlight hit it, so we decided to stick to the side of the buildings that provided shade.
As my family and I walked into the plane, we were excited. The plane ride to jamaica stopped in L.A. and, after that, it went to jamaica. When we arrived in Jamaica it was really hot, but it was wet. I immediately took off my sweater I was wearing on the plane. We took a bus to our hotel. Then we started swimming in the water park. Every night there was a show in the main stage. The next day we woke up early to go to chukka. It was awesome. We saw a great house, rode on horses, and did a challenge course. After we came back from Chukka, we went to the water park and swimming pool at the hotel. Then we ate at fresh, which we went most of the time. The next day we woke up earlier to go to the dolphin cove. The bus was an hour late, but the wait
The day of my grandparents had told me they have been wanting to go to the Florida Keys and asked if I would like to join. So of course i wanted to go. Oh and when they told me i could bring a friend along i was jumping with happiness inside. They told me we would be going for a couple weeks and they had all expenses covered. So that day I started talking to Jamie and asking her when she would be back, because at that time she was in Florida visiting family. She had told me she would be back . So i asked her is she would like to join me and take a trip to the Keys with me. I could tell she was so excited when i asked her because she texted me back all in caps and said “CALL ME”. So i called her to let her know all of the details. So she ended up getting back .So when she got back from Florida we went to Walmart and bought a lot of
I could barely keep myself from jumping out of my chair. I listened intently, noticing the pronunciation of each word as it danced out of my father’s mouth. “It was pitch black. I was only a year or two older than you, you know. And the forest… the forest was so dark. As we paddled through the water toward the floating black mass of the island, it became hard for me to tell where the water ended and the treeline began.” I felt my heart beating deep inside my chest and fought the urge to leap up and scream with excitement and fear.
The next day we had pancakes that the hotel gives for breakfast. That was the best food I have had since the vacation has started. My family and I went to the beach right after that. The water was still cold, so I had to play with the sand. Instead of building a sand castle, I built a set of tunnel and stuff underground. Then, my little brother came and jumped on the tunnels and all of it fell down.
The musty odor lingered across his nose. "This was it, this was the cave" he whispered under his breath. He knew this would be a challenge. The entrance of the cave was scattered with the bones of many who dared entered. He knew he had to do this even if this was the last thing he ever did. The young knight entered the musty cave with all the silence of a stalking leopard.
Everyone in the town always wondered what lies in there. Only a part of the cave has been explored, charted, and known. But no one ever dares go past that area, into the unknown. One night, the whole town was gathered around the cave, taking turns who goes in. Tom and Becky was curious too, so they went ahead into the cave without anyone noticing. Becky could’ve chosen to just stay outside of the cave or to go in the cave. Of course she chose going into the cave, which was a huge risk, Becky and Tom could get lost, get hurt, or even perish. But not going into the cave and staying outside could be boring, and life’s all about taking risks. Becky and Tom’s rewards could be exploring things you’ve never seen before, or trying something new. So as Becky and Tom travel through the cave, they were fascinated by it, they kept wandering deeper and deeper into the cave, getting more and more lost without even knowing it, until Becky feels uncomfortable and says, “Let’s start heading back” is when they figure out they are lost. Tom and Becky turn around and realize, they have no idea where they are and how to get back. They’re trapped, and no one can save them. Tom and Becky search for a passage with an opening, but nothing was found. They kept searching and searching for days, until one day, Tom sees a little speck of light, he keeps following it until he gets to an opening and sees the Mississippi River.
The trip to Florida over Christmas break was unlike any other. Yes, most people would jump at the opportunity to go to Florida after a winter like we had up to that point. So, let me give you some background on why the trip. Back in July my mother in-law had an epileptic seizure that rendered her in a coma, she has not awoken from and the doctors are pushing to let her go. She has been moved 3 hours from my brother in-laws house to Georgia. Thanks to our lovely health care system, it was the only place available that could take care of her needs. Perfect timing kids are out of school and it is a good time to travel so you would think. I have been out of work
Without delay, I sunk right back in the water. My doubts began coming back to me, making me realize I might of been over my head on this one, but I persisted. I reached surface again and began swimming towards the rightmost shore. It wasn’t the best journey, as I kept bobbing in and out of the water, but I managed to reach the shore. The moment I got stood back on my own feet I stood back on them as a new man; I enjoyed the danger I just experienced, besides drinking a hefty amount of lake
Her little blonde curls shivered in the wind that seemed to grow ever stronger as she drew closer to the forbidden cave. “Wait for us,” the boys shouted in a panic as they frantically ran toward the cave, recklessly drawing near the thing that their parents told them not to go near. The girl waited at the mouth of the cave for the two boys to catch up to her. Then, the three of them entered the cave, with the girl at the lead and the boys following her while putting up a false face of bravado.
After this incident, I am afraid of not only water, but also loosing something because of my thoughtlessness and impulsiveness. I became more careful and mature. When I am happy now, I always say to myself, "Watch out!"
The first person to come across after me was Jacob Otagee. Jacob was one of the youngest scouts in the group, and was much smaller than most of us. He worked hard, but by the end of the day, you could see his energy was quickly fading. On top of all of this, Jacob had issues with his gear, especially his boots. A good pair of boots is extremely important, and unfortunately for Jacob, the soles on his had begun to come apart, being held on with duct tape. Everything went fine as Jacob made his way across the first half of the stream. It was a few feet past the middle, when Jacob took a bad step and slipped on a rock submerged under the water. He lost his footing, and within half a second, he had gone down. The water, which had been at his waist, was now at his chest. The force of the water was crushing against him, and the added pressure was pulling hard against me, as I put all of my weight against it, trying to hold him against the water. In those terrifying fractions of a second, I felt myself slipping, and thought I was not going to be able to hold on. I could see the fear in Jacob’s eyes as he scrambled to regain his balance. He knew what would happen if he was pulled downstream. After what seemed like a very long time, Jacob was able to wade closer to shore, and I reached out, grabbed his arm, and pulled him up onto the
After just two hours, our very large friend said he’d had enough for the day and was heading for the surface. We told him we’d be out in a few more minutes and to hang around so we could discuss what we’d found. As we began our ascent toward the entrance, we became acutely aware of the complete absence of light the entrance usually emanated. When our flashlights finally found the source of the unusual darkness we were horrified; the big guy was stuck in the cave’s opening again. This time Scott’s head and shoulders were outside, so instead of being able to pull him through, we would have to try to push him out of the opening. We pushed in every combination of ways possible, and needless to say it did not work this time. The paramount problem was that the cave floods from the interior out, so we would all drown if we couldn’t get Scott unstuck, and unstuck quickly.
This lukewarm water was deceiving though, because it only seemed lukewarm due to the drop in temperature and misty rainfall. The waves were rushing toward me like a bull to a matador’s red flag. My mouth tasted as if someone dumped a whole shaker of salt on my tongue. The wave pushed my further and faster as it I could feel the wave breaking on my body and there I was back at the shallows again floating in with the white wash and was ready for another wave. As I stood back up and ran back out to the deep water I saw one of my surfing mates catch the most perfect barrel it was rad. It would have been a great snap shot. I caught another wave, this one was even bigger. The thrust of the wave was twisting my body and I was pulled towards the sea
