I was 360 feet in the air looking down… When I was in St.Louis, my family and I went to the top of the Gateway Arch. We had to get in a small cart that took us to the top of the Arch. It took six minutes to get up and four minutes to get down. When you were going up or down, we couldn't see anything because there's no windows on the ride. If you didn't want to ride in the cart you could walk up stairs but it would be a long walk. At the top of the Arch there were some windows that were huge when we were up there. When we were at the bottom they looked so small. On one side of the Arch you could see the Mississippi River. On the other side you could see downtown St.Louis and Busch Stadium. It was a great view because it was a bright and
Zig-zag, back and forth, down, down, down, Jonathon, Dad, and I went into a mysterious new world. Now that I have gone into this hot, dry canyon surrounded by monstrous hoodoos, I have seen what it is really like to leave the small town of Seymour, and emerge into the greatness of this world. I have now seen several other National Parks on one of the most renowned places on earth for mysterious creations, the Colorado Plateau. Of all the beautiful places on it, even the Grand Canyon, I have found my favorite one. Bryce Canyon National Park. I thought it was amazing, because it was the most diverse to anything I have ever seen before. We hiked down into it and I felt like I was surrounded by skyscrapers. We trekked around a little, but we didn’t
Have you ever looked off a gigantic cliff? Now imagine traveling 30 miles per hour on a bike with curvy roads with enormous cliffs on your side with no rails. This is exactly what I did with my family when we went to Colorado. From the hotel we drove to a bike tour place to take us to the summit of Pikes Peak. After we arrived at the building we saw pictures of how massive the cliffs were, but what terrified me was the fact they had no side rails. This observation was thrilling as well as terrifying. It was an odd mix of emotions, but I loved the adrenaline rush it gave me. My dad whispered to me, “ This will be absolutely horrifying”.
Louis do not realize the Gateway Arch national park is actually named “The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial”. For many St. Louisan’s the Gateway Arch has become a symbol of home, our claim to fame per say, and represents much more than Thomas Jefferson's vision. The Arch has served as a historical site of many upgrades as renovations still take place today. I wanted to visit the Arch to see some of the things they have changed since the last time I had visited probably eight or nine years prior. The grounds of the Arch look a lot different in my opinion as well as new biking trails I do not recall being there before. On my trip to the Arch I learned many interesting facts I didn't know before and with its current renovations still taking place I got to see first-hand the new look for the
Have you ever felt insignificant while standing in front of a monumental building that you have seen in small images of your history book? No one could imagine the atmosphere and physical beauty inside the most beautiful structures in the world, the Pantheon and the Florence cathedral. While sitting at the fountain in front of the Pantheon, one can see the huge columns rising towards the entablature and the walls curving behind to form a cylinder. Although the exterior of the pantheon could look majestic, the interior is just as breathtaking. The first thing someone does when they enter the Pantheon is to look up at the coffered dome and the oculus. The important feature that seemed impossible to have been built during the time that the Pantheon
My first trip to Yosemite was a time where I learned about adaptation. I had applied for an internship up at Evergreen lodge which is just outside of Yosemite. They bring the candidates up to see if you are okay in the environment. When we arrived near Yosemite the area was full of wonderful lush green pine trees immediately next to it was scorched earth. In the valley I found out that the area had adapted to fires and would grow back.
My youth pastor pulled out of our church parking lot at three am in the morning loaded down with a bus full of twenty four teenagers including me. We were off at last head to Colorado Spring Colorado, little did I know, our bus was going to fall apart this very day.
I had a chance to visit this building and as I stood under the edge of the building looking upward I was amazed by the beauty and precision, and stunned by the size and splendor. Inside I could not get past the entrance and a guard told me I wasn’t allowed to take pictures. The interior with its light colored marble walls and double height ceiling is breathtaking, I stood there and I felt a tremble run through my body. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite buildings in New York.
This impressive architectural design was positioned in Washington D.C. upon an immense hill that sits 88 feet above the Potomac River. The U.S Capitol is 1.5 million square feet and has over 600 rooms. The architecture of this building was completely mind blowing at first
The building progressed well until the civil war. At this time construction was halted for almost 25 years. This left the unfinished obelisk standing 150 feet. Finally, on August 2, 1876, President Grant ordered the completion of the monument. The capstone was placed on the monument on December 6, 1884 and it was finally dedicated on February 21, 1885. Elevators were first powered by a steam hoist. The current elevator was installed in 195...
Wow the Parthenon is truly amazing, with all of the columns, I feel very small. It is so symmetrical and shines in the sunlight. I notice the color of the columns change as the day fades. The pediment sculpture are detailed and lifelike, I really am liking the Centaur. I’m going to have a closer look at this building and take it all in.
Pulling out a street and metro map will show you the best routes from monuments to museums to the metro ². we then took the subway to the National Air and space museum This was so very cool. I was amazed by seeing all the spaace vehicles that are used! Smithsonian natural history museum I got lost here—so big! Out of all the amusing things in there, my favorite part was the dinosaurs—Sorry, had to let the child in me pop out at some point!
I almost fell off a cliff on the side of a mountain. I was in Pitkin, Colorado, on a camping trip during the summer of 2009. The trees were green, the air was fresh so were the lakes, rivers, and ponds were stocked with fish and wildlife was everywhere. Usually, on these camping trips, I would be accompanied by a large number of people. However, this time, it was just my parents, my three brothers, and my two sisters. I was almost 12 years old at the time and having three older brothers made me very competitive. Naturally, when my family decided to climb one of the mountain’s which were around us, I wanted to be the first one to reach its peak.
One unique place, the Twin Towers, is very neat. It towers above all the other buildings.
Out of many places I visited all around the world, the place I like the most is the beautiful city of Agra. It’s a quite town located on the North of India. When we talk about Agra one image that comes in mind is Taj Mahal. Yes one of the seven wonders is here. Agra is full of architectural monuments. And I also visited Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, and Buland Darwazaand. Food was not really good. Besides Taj Mahal, Agra is famous for handicrafts, leather and fine arts. It was fun shopping at Agra.
glimpse of it. It is huge, and is the most noticeable building in the area. My
