Personal Narrative: My Time In High School Sports

It happened so suddenly and it was so unexpected. When I hurt my knee it was just a refresher letting me know that this stuff can happen to anyone including me at any time. Being injured makes you realize how special your time in high school sports really is cause you know what its like without it. I went to a Saturday practice we were doing the normal drills to start practice, we stretched and got warmed up and everything else. Then we did one on one box outs and I went with Adam Babson. Then he shot the ball I tried to get around him and my toe caught on his shoe and I heard a pop in my knee. I went down and he bent down to and says,”stay down keep faking it”. So me and my mom went to the emergency room because there was no where else we could go on a Sunday. The doctor I saw told me some good news but also bad news. He said he was sure it wasn’t my ACL but its likely it is my lateral meniscus but I had to get an MRI to be sure. So he called the Orthopedist we pick and he told me to come and get an MRI that Thursday. So I waited till then and went and got the MRI the doctor confirmed that is was my meniscus and told me it would take four months before I would be a hundred percent again with six weeks of that four months on crutches. He then said that I needed to have the surgery soon and he was as busy tomorrow as he was gonna be for the next two months. I was very scared and didn't sleep very well that night. The next morning I woke up and couldn’t think of anything but that. We finally got to the surgery center and sat in the waiting room for a few minutes then they started prepping me. They had to shave my entire leg which I thought was weird. Then came the IV the lady dug it into my skin and moved it around and it hurt so bad. Then I remember leaving the surgery center and I was really hungry so me and my dad went and ate at a restaurant in Wichita. Then we got home and it was kinda blank from there. After a while I kinda got used to the crutches and everything else but the hardest part was going to games and sitting there on the bench knowing there was no way I could go in and play it wasn’t fun but I got used to that to then i went back to the doctor for the second time and I was able to get off crutches the six weeks were finally up. It was awesome to walk again but I still couldn’t do anything else. After basketball season ended i decided to play baseball even though I knew I wasnt gonna be able to play until towards the end of the season. Then on April eighth I went back to the doctor thinking I may get cleared to play again my knee felt good and I thought I was ready, but when I got there i got some bad news i would have to wait 20 more days the days went by and finally the twenty eighth came around i was able to play there was no feeling like being able to run around again and I was ecstatic I could do
