In electing to participate in the Change Anything (2011) 30-day personal challenge, I contemplated which area of my life I would like to see improvement. After careful consideration, I decided to focus my attention on improving my relationship with my son. My relationship with my son has endured many challenges because of his daily struggle with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Diagnosed with the disorder at the age of seven, I have experience many obstacles with managing the symptoms of his disorder. These symptoms include difficulty focusing and trouble completing homework as well as chores and other task. In light of these challenges, the timing of this challenge ideal as I recently made the tough decision to leave my job in order to bring more balance to my personal life.
After reading Change Anything (2011), I sought to develop a change plan that utilized the strategies outline in the book. I initially started with strategy one, which is to “identify crucial moments” that create the greatest challenge for me achieving change (Patterson, Grenny, Maxfield, McMillan, & Switzler, 2011, p. 31). We are spending more time together and I am learning how to say no to individuals and activities that often pull me away from spending time with my son. Additionally, I have noticed that I am more patience with my son and make more of an effort to be less frustrated when I have to redirect him on multiple occasions to complete a specific task. Moreover, my son also acknowledged the fact that he noticed a difference and that I was making an effort to spend more time with him, which speaks volumes towards the progress we have made. Moving forward, it is my intent to continue using the change challenge form and the six sources of influence to continue support my change

Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, otherwise known as ADHD, is the most common psychiatric condition effecting 9.5% of school-aged children in the United States (intuniv, 2013). If the disorder goes untreated, it will cause more long-term side effects and difficulties for the individual as an adult. Adults who have this condition face several adversities in every day life, such as impulsive behavior, low self-esteem and poor work performance. People are not aware of the complications that come with ADHD in adults. Not knowing the symptoms of the disease can cause people to not be sympathetic when they are interacting with someone with disorder.
A theoretical framework provides guidance as a project evolves. The end results will determine whether the knowledge learned from implementing a project should create a change in practice (Sinclair, 2007). In this project is relied on the Kurt Lewin’s Change Theory. Burnes (2004) states that despite the fact that Lewin built up this three-step model more than 60 years prior, it keeps on being a commonly referred framework to support effective change projects. The three steps are unfreezing, moving and refreezing. Lewin decided in Step 1, unfreezing, that human conduct is held in balance by driving and limiting powers. This paper will be broken down into six sections profiling each critical part of implementing and managing change in an organization. The sections included are; outline for plan creating urgency, the approach to attracting a guiding team, a critique of the organizational profile, the components of change, and how to empower the organization.
Whether planned or unplanned, change can cause disruption to one’s stable environment if not handled in the correct way (McGarry, Cashin, & Fowler, 2012). Having children was a positive planned change for me. The decision has greatly improved my well-being and outlook on life. My thought process was changed the instant I held my first child. From that point on, every decision I make is centered on how it will affect them. Motherhood has opened my eyes to the realization that change occurs every day and there is no halting the process. As I watch my children grow, I emotionally embrace each unforeseen moment that comes with it.

There is a point in everyone’s life when they step back and realize “I can’t do this anymore, it’s ruining my life”. Many of my friends have started smoking cigarettes while drinking at a very young age, and continue to use this drug currently and don’t realize the affect it has on their future. While I have been smart enough to avoid smoking, I haven’t been as wise at making decisions when it comes to drinking. The amount of partying I’ve done in college has taken over my life, and has had a huge impact on my grades. Changing my drinking habits and continuing to avoid cigarettes will enable me to be the best I can be for the rest of my college experience.
The change process within any organization can prove to be difficult and very stressful, not only for the employees but also for the management team. Hayes (2014), highlights seven core activities that must take place in order for change to be effective: recognizing the need for change, diagnosing the change and formulating a future state, planning the desired change, implementing the strategies, sustaining the implemented change, managing all those involved and learning from the change. Individually, these steps are comprised of key actions and decisions that must be properly addressed in order to move on to the next step. There have been tons of things that I have learned and been taught in my life, by a number of people such as family, teachers, or even friends on occasion. The things they taught me vary from math and other related subjects to just some truly simple yet meaningful life lessons. However, there is nothing quite as unique, quite as special as a person teaching themselves a life lesson. It really is an amazing accomplishment for a person to teach themselves something. It is not quite as simple as another person teaching them something because it is not just the transferring of information from one person to another. The person instead has to start from scratch and process the information they have in their mind in order to come up with a new thought
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
