My original island is called the palm tree island. The island is shaped like a palm tree. That’s how it got it’s name. On the Palm Tree island there are a few stores, shops, and restaurants to go to. Every morning I can hear birds chirping like they were singing a song. I can also see many people jogging on the sidewalks before they go to work. The taste of coffee and donuts in the morning is always satisfying. A lot of times I can smell the cool blue salt water all day long. I can feel the soft moisture of the sand on the island. Across this island there is another island, but it’s unknown. Nobody lives on the island. Nobody knows what’s on the island. I’ve been living on this island for about 5 years now. My best friend Sally on the other hand has been living here for about 10 years. We met in college a few years ago. Sally is a loving, and caring person. She has short brunette hair color. She is short and muscular. She also has a husband named Bill. Bill is a hard working man. He is also short and buff. They both go to the gym together and work out a lot of times after work. When I arrived on this island there weren’t that many people here. The population was probably about 300 people. As time went on, more people started visiting this island and began to live here. I wanted to live on this island because there are unique things about this island and it’s not very …show more content…
big. One sunny morning Sally and I went down to the beach and was walking on the sand when we noticed a small bottle washed onto the shore.
In the bottle it had a small piece of paper that looked like it have been in there for a while. The paper said, “HELP, We’ve been trapped here for days.” It also had a signature at the bottom. It said, “unknown.” A few minutes later, Sally asked, “maybe this note is from that small island that is unknown.” “You may be right”, I replied back to her. So we decided to go over to that island and we found nothing. Till this day we still don’t know who that note was
from. One night Sally came over to my house for dinner. The news was on and the weatherman was calling for a chance of severe storms ahead of us here in a couple of hours. We were all frantically scared to sleep tonight. So I decided to let Sally stay through the night till the morning. The next morning, mostly everything was destroyed. Trees were knocked down on the ground, strung out everywhere. There were some trees on houses. Also houses were flooded and destroyed. It was pretty devastating just looking at all the damage. Luckily nobody was hurt. As the days passed by people were slowly cleaning up the mess, and getting things back to somewhat normal. I work as a secretary at an insurance company. Today I met a new worker who was going to do my job for part time. Her name is Amanda. She has long black hair, tall, and skinny. She also has a three year old daughter. She is also a type of person who doesn’t sugar coat things and tells you how it is. One day she and I got into an argument because she thought she knows everything, when she has only been working here for about a month now. I’ve been working here for about 3 years now. Working as a secretary is busy usually. When Amanda though works, she doesn’t get her work done on time. So when I come in the next morning I am the one who has to finish her work. I got so tired of it. One day I had to confront her, but didn’t know when. Today was the day to confront her about her poor work. I told her that I was tired of doing the rest of her work the day I come in. It was tiring and on top of that I had to do my own work. She replied back saying she will try her best to finish her work the day before I come in. And how she was sorry about her poor work. I accepted her apology. As the months went on her and I became good friends and good working partners.
the island makes its presence known not only to the boys on the island, but to the reader as well.
At first the island is thought to be a paradise by the boys. It is a
Firstly, the island is like the Garden of Eden, like paradise, however, within few days it becomes a microcosm of the real world. The plane crashes onto the island leaving a ‘scar’ behind. From this event, we see the island as Earth and the plane as human activities invading Earth. It signifies how humans drop bombs, pollute and destruct nature with our likings and our needs. All these ‘scars’ left behind in nature, ‘scars’ and shadows left behind in society - deaths, abuse and hatred - originates to
The island itself suggests a place of wonder and relaxation. Providing the reader with the impression of an utopia society, an impression that will soon be contradicted as the novel progresses.
When I stepped out of the hot, airless plane into the bright, dazzling sunlight beaming down across the burning concreate, I felt excited and nervous. Holding my beach bag in my hand and slipping my Ray Ban sunglasses on with my other, I flip-flopped down the airspace. Overhead I heard the screams of gulls and the chatter of the small fluffy birds. I suddenly realized I had arrived to Hawaii. This trip was such an unforgettable vacation for me because I got to witness the beauty of nature that Hawaii has to offer.

The boys have fruit like coconut for a food resource, and even found wild hogs living in the island. The island is covered in sand, and course grass with fallen trees all over the island. When the boys found the end of the island they saw mirages settling, and a lagoon. The main focal point of the island is the mountain that is jagged, and closest to the beach. This mountain is where the boys will start their fire to try getting
The day of my grandparents had told me they have been wanting to go to the Florida Keys and asked if I would like to join. So of course i wanted to go. Oh and when they told me i could bring a friend along i was jumping with happiness inside. They told me we would be going for a couple weeks and they had all expenses covered. So that day I started talking to Jamie and asking her when she would be back, because at that time she was in Florida visiting family. She had told me she would be back . So i asked her is she would like to join me and take a trip to the Keys with me. I could tell she was so excited when i asked her because she texted me back all in caps and said “CALL ME”. So i called her to let her know all of the details. So she ended up getting back .So when she got back from Florida we went to Walmart and bought a lot of
I wake up to the sun shining through the window and the faint laughter from my family downstairs. It's the first day of our annual trip to Rhode Island. I lie in bed for a few moments and think about one thing. Rhode Island. I wouldn’t rather be anywhere else than here. I glance at the clock and it is only eight in the morning, but everybody is already up, enjoying breakfast, and getting ready to head to the beach. It's not supposed to rain until later in the day, so hopefully we can enjoy our day at the beach before it rains. I eventually make my way out of bed and tiptoe across the frigid wood floors and join my family downstairs. Everybody is up except my brother, Thomas.
In his essay, “My Island Life,” Luke Harmon discusses the importance of islands and how they have been used by evolutionary biologists to study evolution and diversification on Earth. Harmon focuses on biogeography and on how different species are distributed across the Earth. Harmon also makes a point to mention how human introduction of invasive species is rapidly causing islands around the Earth to become uniform and less diversified. Harmon’s research on the evolutionary history of lizards found on two separate regions of Islands begins with the influence of Wallace’s line, discovered by Alfred Russel Wallace. This line is described as invisible boundaries that separate Earth into provinces, and these provinces contain distinct species. Wallace noticed that the physical influences and conditions did not change across the line, but the species inhabiting it did. With Wallace’s discoveries in mind, Harmon hypothesizes that by studying the diversification and evolutionary history of two different lizard species, anoles and day geckos, will show how evolution can be predictable.
“Paige! Come look at this!” I shouted from across the aquarium. We were at an aquarium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on vacation. I was standing on a pirate ship wheel while my whole family, Lexi, Lacey, my mom, and stepdad were looking at the shark cave.
It was the last day of school, my friends and I all planned to go to Kings Island the next day. There is a big problem, the thing is I don’t ride rollercoasters and I’m terrified to get on one, I tried to act excited when my buddies kept talking about it but it was just hard because I’d be the boring one not getting on any of the rides. I knew that this trip was going either make me conquer my fears or become more scared of them.

The gleaming sun caressed my squinting face as I glanced up at the magnificent blue sky decorated with white, fluffy clouds that resembled white cotton candy. I was outside exploring the vast backyard. It was only my first morning in the United States. My stepfather, my siblings, and I had just arrived from the Philippines to our new home in Rhode Island seven hours ago from the T. F. Green Airport at around midnight. Last night, was my first time seeing my mother after a year has gone. I was finally able to live with my parents! Since I was two years old, my grandparents had raised my siblings and I. When my biological father had divorced my mother, my mother and stepfather later sought work in the Middle East to support our private education.
Oh, summer! The warmth of the sun as it hits your face, the coconut smell that lies around your skin as you apply sunscreen, the water in the distance as it reverses and forms a wave. A wave so salty it could dry up anything in the blink of an eye. And then it hits you. The reality, not the wave. That those days of swimming and splashing, are far behind. Now all the fun there is left for you is the damaging hours that you spend waiting for the sun to kiss your skin with its golden beauty. All there is left is a bunch of divas laying around in bathing suits as tiny as sea shells, that scream and screech at the sound of seagulls. Welcome to a summer in the Hamptons.
