My memoir is about the good memories of when i used to be in elementary school as a little girl in my country. I was very happy with the school even do my teacher Ms. Johanne was very strict i won't ever forget her, with 30 of us inside of the classroom she sure knows how to handle all of us with her sense of teaching style.
Each morning from monday to sunday since i was at a catholic school we had bible classes and prayer sessions on saturday and sunday masses we were very busy with the school activities and tons of homework this is the reason why we have three months vacation. My middle school years were fabulous. I had great memories of that time. I remembered that during that time my father continued with his education. He went back to school to become a teacher. He pursued his dream to have better opportunities in life and he started working as a teacher, but unfortunately the department of education sent him far away from home to work. I remembered that he left on Mondays and then came back home Fridays. My mother recalled that at that time she continued working in the farm because the money that they paid my father as a teacher was not enough to sustain our family. My mother is a woman who grew up working since she was a child. She always told me that her father dropped her from school when she was around nine years old because he wanted her to help him
1. The memoir that I feel most reflects my life is Living in Tongues by Luc Sante. I was raised predominantly speaking another language, Farsi. It is also the language that I mainly speak at home considering my grandmother is visiting and it would be rude for me to speak to my other family members in English. When I first started Kindergarten, I did not know how to speak English, nor did I know how to write in it. I too, felt frustrated and somewhat alienated. I am also interested in American History and the historical sites and attractions within the United States. I cannot get over how large Yellowstone National Park is or how beautiful the streets of New York can get on summer nights. Whenever my parents get mad at me, they speak in Farsi too and sometimes it is hard for me to decipher what they are saying.
The story of my history as a writer is a very long one. My writing has come full circle. I have changed very much throughout the years, both as I grew older and as I discovered more aspects of my own personality. The growth that I see when I look back is incredible, and it all seems to revolve around my emotions. I have always been a very emotional girl who feels things keenly. Preschool was the best time of my life. What I enjoyed most was taking naps and having recess . One day while at recess, I was on the playground, my teacher Ms. Clark told me to jump down and she would catch me. Being a little kid I laughed and prepared myself to jump. I jumped down,and as soon as I jumped, Ms. Clark turned away and I fell on my stomach, hitting the asphalt. I was crying and screaming because I had cuts on my leg. Ms. Clark picked me up and she asked me, ”Kenya, why did you jump off of there?” The nurse fixed me up I had to sit in the classroom during recess for three days.
Perhaps my most gratifying research experience was also my biggest research obstacle. During my early undergraduate research in Professor Paul Sternberg’s Lab, I had grown to learn how to communicate science, determine the important experiments to conduct and obtain the necessary laboratory skills. This story reminded me of my 5 grade life, trust me it was horrible. The same thing happened with me and my best friend, we got into fights too. Well I was kind of like Jenny, my whole school year was ruined in until and end of the school year. I and my best friends got together and we had a lot of fun like she did in the end. This story also reminds me of a movie called mean girl it’s kind of similar to this story. When reading with book I was thinking did I ever wrote story about my life, because this book was explaining almost everything in my life. During this time, they are free to play, hang out, eat lunch, or study for the test. Not for these delinquent students, because this is the only time they would likely cause another disturbance and get involved into another fight. If that ever happens, even it happens a lot, the teachers can pull out their last trick to discipline these delinquents. The delinquents will go to the schoolyard and do a full clean up and make sure that not even a single paper wrap or candy warp is on the ground. The first thing I noticed was that they put cleanliness as a top priority. From teachers to students, they would watch their hands many times throughout the day. The classrooms are close to the sinks, so that students are able to reach the sink whenever they pass the door. This way the students had a habit of watching their hands frequently. I noticed that students of 3rd and 4th grade would wash their hands often at around noon.
In the classroom I am observing in I have watched how the teacher and the students start and end their day by following different procedures for ex: attendance, portfolios, grades, and class rituals like morning meeting, transitions and end of the day procedures. All of these procedures and rituals contribute to the classroom culture and are parts of instructional practices. So when the students come first in, in the morning they have morning circle where they do attendance, weather, lunch choices, how I feel today chart and much more. Each student has a job during morning circle which rotates every day so not every student has the same job. So attendance is kept and done at morning meeting everyday which is important for the teacher to keep
I’ll never forget the day I started to wonder what it would be like if I ever had children. Even though I was rather young I’ve always had a great thought on family. Childhood was my most cherished and greatly missed memory. Along with naivety, innocence and stress-free enjoyment came safety, and the care of others around me. I believe who I’ve become today was shaped from my childhood and the people I was surrounded by. I believe my circumstances as a child helped me form my identity today.
It was the second semester of fourth grade year. My parents had recently bought a new house in a nice quite neighborhood. I was ecstatic I always wanted to move to a new house. I was tired of my old home since I had already explored every corner, nook, and cranny. The moment I realized I would have to leave my old friends behind was one of the most devastating moments of my life. I didn’t want to switch schools and make new friends. Yet at the same time was an interesting new experience.
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
The story starts eighteen years ago in the small town of Clinton, Maine. In a two story, brown, ranch style house, two new parents and their daughter start their lives as a family. The parents want nothing but the best for their daughter, they wanted her to be happy, healthy, and educated. The daughter in this is me, Alyssa Higbie. I loved where I lived, for the most part at least. I loved the small town feel, nothing was too cramped. I always had space to roam and quite place to think. I knew practically everyone when I was growing up. The small town feel also made its way into the classroom, for all my years in elementary school I do not remember ever having a class that had more than 15 students. Because of this I was able to have more of a one on one relationship with my teachers. I believe that this interaction as a young student really helped me to have a connection and passion for learning.
