The cheers of my father in the waiting room drowned out the incessant hum of the fluorescent light fixtures that illuminated the halls of the pediatrics wing of Los Robles hospital as he watched the New York Rangers score a game-winning goal. My mother had gone into labor with me only hours before and upon telling my father the good news, she realized that she was going to have to wait until the end of the first period of the hockey game he was watching before she got a ride to the hospital. My love for sports began before I took my first breath. Although I was born and raised in Los Angeles the rest of my family roots are based in New York and Boston. Watching the New York Rangers with my dad became he and my mom watching me shoot a soccer ball or run a sprint. At the age of nine that all changed, my father passed away suddenly from a heart attack and all of the comforts and stability I had were jerked into turmoil. As the only third grader in my class with one parent, life started to feel very lonely. Even at such a young age I remember the feeling of my confidence and all sense of normal slipping through my grasp and the gaping hole in my gut that was getting larger each day. Each day at work I would use content from other sport networks would have to apply a “courtesy” on each clip to acknowledge that we did not own the rights to that footage. I began to question why as a massive sports network we make the decisions we do regarding what sporting and media rights we purchase and what logic goes into the deals made with various media platforms and distributors. Thus my career in sports entertainment was born. I started as an Account Services Representative in advertising sales at The Walt Disney Company (specifically ESPN) immediately following my college graduation. I excelled in my position and was quickly promoted to an Account Manager. One facet of my job is being at the table when negotiating multi-million dollar media deals and contracts with advertisers all over the country. With primary focuses in television and the digital space I am regularly challenged with understanding the complexity and fluidity of both of these platforms. I also initiate critical relationships with established and emerging clients and provide crucial support and ideas when formulating innovative media campaign. This relies on my constant analytical research as well as being consistently up to date on various mergers and acquisitions taking place in the
