Football is my favorite sport. I have always been interested in football. When I was very young, I would watch the games with my family. It was so much fun to see everyone get excited when their team was winning and get angry when their team was losing. Of course, our favorite team was the Saints. I used to have a Saints uniform to wear when I watched the games with my family. After the game, we would go outside and play. Sundays were my favorite day of the week because the day was filled with games on TV and then everyone playing football.
It was also fun to go to high school football games with my family. I always had a cousin or two playing. I would sit as close to the field as possible. The competition that the sport brings out was amazing. Fans as well as players and coaches would do almost anything to have their teams win.
I was able to play on a recreational team when I was very young. Then I played on the team in my middle school. The best team that I was able to play on was my high school team. Our mascot was the Bulldog, and we lived up to that name. We practiced and played hard. We studied the plays together. We watched films of our games every week while Coach pointed out our best and worst plays of the game. There were a few times that I was picked as the MVP. Being a Bulldog gave me the opportunity to be part of something special. We were like a family. I knew that I could rely on my teammates.
I regret that I dropped out of high school. It was not a good decision. I really did not want to leave my team. I stayed in touch with some of my teammates for about a year after I left, but time goes on and people get busy. Even though I did not complete high school, and I had to leave my team, I will always be a Bulldog at heart. Football has left me with great memories. Today, I still check to see if the Bulldogs are winning, and I still enjoy watching the Saints with my family. I just don’t wear the uniform anymore.
Football has been a big part of my life ever since I was a little kid. I almost always tried to play football when I could with my brothers if they weren’t busy messing around. During recess in grade school my class would try to start a football game and I would be the first in to be picked on a team. My first time being on a “football team” was in little league my third grade year and I’ve never missed a year yet now that I am a senior in highschool and I’m hoping to continue it in college. Football made the person who I am today, it changed me in many ways and affected how I am as a person.
My whole life I have played a sport. Whether that be soccer, or lacrosse, or field hockey. Playing a sport and being a part of a team was something I always knew how to do. I always knew how to play the sport as a team and not score on your own. My lacrosse team consisted of about 18-19 girls: 6 offenders, 6 defenders, 2 goalies, and the rest were mid-fielders. My favorite position was mid-fielder, I always enjoyed playing all the part that consisted of being on the team. I loved playing both defense and offense, I liked assisting with goals and I also loved stopping goals. My travel team taught me things that I did not learn anywhere else, my team taught me the true importance of teamwork, how to be a leader, or how winning is not always the most important thing.
Those hot days in those great summers football was my favorite pastime. I lived in a house with two sisters and no brothers the most close thing to a brother was my football some friends and the field.
Joining a high school baseball team was a commitment. It took over every second of my life; it occupied my every thought and motivated everything I did. My high school baseball team was not easy to become a part of. First I needed prove my skills in tryouts. Then I had to prove my credibility and demonstrate those skills in games while under pressure. Finally I needed to become a brother to every player on that team, I had to be there and have the backs of every single person who shared the dugout with me. My experiences of joining the team included needing to demonstrate and master the logos, ethos, and pathos skills required to be a member of that sacred brotherhood.
One of my favorite memories in my sports career was in the third grade, being the first year I played tackle football instead of flag football. This transition was a huge step for me because at such a young age I have never had much contact before. On the fifth day of practice after completing the conditioning our coach yelled, “time to hit!” Being a bunch of little kids we all screamed with extreme joy as this is the first time we get to tackle each other. My face grew the biggest smile as I was up first to tackle one of teammates. Our coach explained the
I remember those Friday nights in high school going to the football games. Listening to the fans roaring in the crowd and the cheerleaders chanting cheers on the sidelines for their team. While eating nachos from the concession stands, I enjoyed the halftime show done by the dance team and marching band. The best part of it all is winning the game, celebrating with friends, and before the night ends listening to the sound of your school's fight song in the background. I do not know about you, but these were my favorite events to attend during high school.
When I was beginning high school as a freshman, I searched for an activity that I could participate in. I was looking to meet new people and hoping to be accepted by other students. I was willing to do anything for their acceptance. At the beginning of the school year a football meeting was announced, although I had never played football before, I decided to attend the meeting. From the day of that initial meeting, I will be in love with the game for the rest of my life. I learned of the consequences involved with participating in a full contact sport such as football. Many people ask if football is worth the risk for high school athletes. I decided that for me the benefits outweigh the risks.
Unfortunately though football had to come to an end. Having to hang my jersey and give up football before high school. Believe me it was neither my choice nor my second it was my parents’ design. My parents’ knew at the time that I love playing football, but they did not want me to get a concussion this I did not fully understand. Because not long after, sophomore year in high school I got my first concussion by played two-hand touch football. How it happened it was a weight lifting class and the class would play football and eventually two-hand touch exculpated to tackling.
Growing up in a small town, football had always been a huge deal to what seemed to be everyone besides me, at the time I would have rather stayed at home and wasted my life away being lazy. I started to play at the age of six to fuel my
When I was 7, my football team went to the youth football championship. After 4 quarters, the game was tied. We went to overtime. On the last drive of overtime i got the ball and ran it into the end-zone. It was so much fun because of the suspense and the competitive element.
As I went into high school I decided to quit football as I thought it was much more fun to hangout and watch the varsity games than to participate. I had many friends throughout high school. I was always having people over and throwing parties. One of the highlights of high school for me was getting my permit and then my license. It allowed me to be free and ...
In particular, I want to talk about my experiences playing football and baseball. First, at the school I attended they did not have a football team so I figured I was out of luck. However, I discovered there was a club team that anyone in the county could play for. I joined the team as soon as I found out about it, which was in sixth grade. I played all the way through my senior year of high school. What made these times so enjoyable was the family type bond shared between all of the players and with the coaches. The coaches were father like figures, who were there to teach us more than just football. They cared more about us being outstanding young men than they cared about the type of players we were. Sure, they wanted to win as we all did, but they were interested more in developing our characters. This team dynamic made the one hour commute each day well worth
Many people associate the word “team” with sports. I have played on sports teams for most of my life. This includes being the long snapper for the Vanderbilt University Football team and receiving a tryout for the National Football League’s (NFL) New England Patriots. The most meaningful teams for me, however, are the ones I am a member of off the field.
American Football is not merely a sport, its a culture. In the south football is in some ways a lifestyle. From the rivalries to the championships its truly one of the most exciting sports to have ever been created. This is why I love it so much, it is much more than just a game it has a much deeper meaning to it. From the outside looking in, many people do not fully realize the impact it has on each and every player throughout its history. Football has made me who I am today.
For as long as I can remember football has been a part of my life in some way, shape, or form. When I was first born my grandfather said that I was solid and built to play football. I used to throw the football with my mother when I was a toddler and she always told me that when I tried to tackle her I hit really hard. My first organized football experience was when I was five. I had just moved to Manassas, VA from Washington, D.C. in 1994. It was around fall and that was right at the beginning of football season in the area. I remember telling my mother that I wanted to play, so she looked for a local organization for children. She came across the Greater Manassas Football League (GMFL) and that is where I began to play the game I love.
