Two years ago, I realized my goal of becoming an officer in the army. To achieve my goal in an outstanding manner, I decided to fight to get into the most respected military academy in America; West Point. The only path I can take to be accepted into West Point is one where I continue to challenge myself and work relentlessly to improve in areas I don’t excel in. When I saw AP Literature was an available class, not signing up was not an option. Although I am absolutely no prodigy in English, I’m not struggling with it either. I often spend more time than necessary on some assignments since certain parts of English (especially ACT type questions) elude me. I am hoping to capture the knowledge I am missing to answer these questions, by working hard at home and in this course. I have taken English …show more content…
To continue learning and develop understanding in new areas, I must complete all of the work assigned. Another important part of being successful will be to be attentive in class. I plan to take well made notes to preserve any lessons and lectures. I will store and protect these notes to be referenced at any later time needed. Success in this course will be primarily determined by my effort, so I will work relentlessly to be successful in this course. There are two main obstacles that stand in my way. The first obstacle that will interfere with my success is a lack of materials. Particularly cash to buy books and internet for school work. Although I don’t have an answer for my lack in money, I may end up getting internet later in the year. If that’s not possible than I will work around this obstacle. The other obstacle that i will face is the late time that I get home. I usually get home after six o'clock, but this isn’t too much of a problem since I will simply stay up later to finish work. Hopefully I will be accepted into this course. I look forward to a challenging and progressive
I’m convinced that much learning has occurred in this course, both on your part and on mine. So I’m most interested in your telling me what you have learned, rather than asking questions on this exam that require you to demonstrate your learning. So, look back over the course and compose a page each on what you have learned about each of these course objectives.
My initial reason to enter the Air Force was a great way to pay for college which turned into a call of duty and a service commitment which has actively allowed me to contribute to the Air Force mission. Thus far I have led a joint force search and rescue effort and a multinational exercise to preserve freedom. As an F-15E instructor WSO and combat mission ready WSO I actively contribute to ensure our freedoms are preserved and the attacks of September 11, 2001 will never happen again.
When I was 6 years old I loved all types of animals. So I wanted to be a veterinarian but when my mom told me I would have to go to college for ten years the idea quickly vanished. So I then decided I wanted to join the Navy Seals. At first I thought it would be really cool and fun to be in the special forces, but later that year I watched Black Hawk Down and realised that warfare isn't all fun and games. So after that I thought about becoming a pilot but my dad told me I had to have 20/20 eyesight so that idea was shot down pretty quick. I also wanted to join the navy to become a captain of a ship or even an admiral.
If I continue to follow each step for the remaining weeks for the semester, my habit of procrastination will no longer exist when it comes to doing my school work. I will know how to approach my school work with no distraction and I will know how to get my assignments turned in on time. My plans for me to be successful will come from my work ethic of studying more and doing extra activities less. Understanding my assignments and prioritizing better will cause me to start on my work when assigned to me.
“Ok, ok.” I groggily yawned. I tossed my pillow across the room and started to get dressed in my dress whites. Today was the start of first naval boot camp. It was at Marine base called Camp Pendleton. On the way there, I shivered of the thought of me at the camp. My friends who had also gone to boot camp said it was really hard and tough, but still, they managed to get a laugh or two out of it. I pondered about my thoughts and before I knew it, we were at the camp.
But in the mid 1930s, he was hoping to qualify for the 1940 Helsinki Olympic Games and the 1944 London Olympic Games. He believed he could have won gold. But both of those Olympics were cancelled because of the war.
What experiences molded me into the writer that I am today? Growing up as an Army Brat, My father was a sergeant major in the United States Army, and we followed him whenever he changed duty stations. I had three different High Schools in three different states: Wisconsin, Colorado, and Texas in three years. The sad part of that was that we never were able to transfer during the summer breaks, so most of the time I had to play catch up with my classes, or I had to take classes just to make the state’s requirement for that particular grade. Of course, I had those High School teachers back then that tried to prepare me for college by having me write long essays and book reports. Oh yes, that was long before computers and Microsoft office,
Growing up in the military can be tough, especially when you move around a lot. Going to a new school is very difficult, especially when you move into the school halfway through the year. When the school year has already started most people have already settled down with their friends and their groups they hang out with and It's hard to find a group of people to be with. Finding new friends, getting used to the area, finding new activities to get into and finding a new job. Also, getting back into school and getting used to different teaching methods that you aren't used to. I first moved out of high school my sophomore year. I had to leave all of my close friends that I’ve been with for years. When we moved, I was angry, frustrated, sad,
When I was seventeen I nervously traveled about 350 miles from my sleepy little home town of Freedom, Wyoming to the relatively enormous city of Boise, Idaho to go to the Military Entrance Processing Station. This wasn 't the first time I had been this far from home by myself, but it was the first time I was making adult decisions without my parents involvement. When it came time for me to choose my job in the army the counselors presented me with a long list that I qualified for. I got tired of scrolling and reading so I chose the first job that I actually understood. I returned home and excitedly told my parents that I would be an infantry soldier. My dad 's response to this might be considered a little less than heart warming “You dumb ass. Why didn 't you choose
Many people have asked me how I ever made it through the Army with me being so introvert. I joined the Army at the age of 18 and by the time I turned 21 I was put in charge of Soldiers. Honestly I do not know how I was able to stand in front of my Soldiers and give them briefings on our mission. At times I had to stand in front of formation and lead our morning physical training in front of the whole company. I look back now and wonder that maybe I did not think about it much because it was an obligation to do it. In the military you are given this role to be a leader and what kind of leader would I be if I showed weakness to something as simple as physical training. Maybe I did not the feel pressure to do it because I was not exchanging words and carrying conversations, I was up front giving commands.
Of the various assignments I have completed throughout the course, I feel that the most beneficial to my academic profile have been the literary analyses of various readings. Due to the nature of an online classroom, I feel that I have been presented the opportunity to expend my own knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of literature in a unique and efficient manner. Supplementing this point, I feel that this course has offered me an opportunity to expand my intellect better than a traditional classroom experience might. The assignments of this course, along with other obligations, such as attendance and the use of a grade point system have given me the responsibilities of managing my time wisely, attending and participating in class activities, and the diligence of keeping up with other personal goals. I take these responsibilities as obligations, and as a result, have taken actions to complete them to the best of my ability. By simultaneously completing multiple assignments in a limited time frame, studying for assessments and assignments, regularly checking for new correspondence/assignments and attending classes, I feel that I have taken initiative this semester to expand my knowledge, skills and abilities in American
As a candidate for Honors English I understand I am given the opportunity to go beyond expectations and challenge my aptitude. By being able to attend this class I commit to demonstrate and perform at my best. I want to take this course because I know I can improve in several areas. Such as writing research papers and understanding complex literature.
...e but these four weeks were crucial. I now have an idea of what I can accomplish when I get off of social networks and even turn off my phone. Now I just need to make a good habit of absolutely banishing my procrastination. These four weeks of my behavior change were just a big step into my grade-damaging problem. I know what I need to do to stop my procrastination so I just need to use my time wisely. It’s hard to believe that I have had to struggle with procrastination since elementary school. I am now getting that a grip on this bad problem. I'm making progress to solve my studying problem. Projects like these and more in the future will make me a complete economist learner which is the opposite of my academic situation four weeks ago. I believe college and the college preparation class is benefiting me by not only increasing my grades but bettering my life.
I am taking AP Literature and Composition for many reasons, but the main reason is to make my grandmother proud. She used to be an AP english teacher herself and I just want her to be happy for me. The other perks for taking this course is to challenge myself and be more prepared for college. I believe that I could get a higher score on my ACT by taking this class. I hope to be able to read and comprehend words fast and efficiently. Also to improve my writing skills and spelling, I am really bad at spelling. Lastly, I want to improve my critical thinking skills when reading a story. To accomplish my hopes I can work on practice tests and spelling words. I can also read a book and stop in between certain chapters to think about the author is trying to say.
The future is unknown but knowing what you want to try and accomplish and having dreams is a pivotal point in which I must decide on what I want to do upon retirement form the military. Having skills of a Soldier and those of a maintenance technician are skills and attributes that collate with the civilian sector. In this paper, I look to find what it is that I want to accomplish after retirement and my skill set that I bring to the civilian sector. My career plan will be to set realistic goals set around where I want to live and the job opportunities that are present in my area. Looking to the future has always been a strong point in which I have always planned but it was not until recently that I have had to really look at life after the military.
