Boarding the bus to school it was another hot, sticky humid, August day. Without being able to sleep at all the night before from being very anxious and excited I was all but energized. Throughout the day class had drug on, nearly falling asleep first period, my teacher yells, ‘Logan are you with us today?’. Picking my head up off the desk I replied and quickly got back onto the task at hand. I had never really been able to follow along in math too well. However today was a different kind of day, today was my very first middle school football game. Throughout the halls you would have saw all the football players wearing their white jerseys and jeans. Our coach being a strict, military style coach, admired the fact that all players must match on game day on …show more content…
and off the field. The day went by very slowly and I caught myself paying more attention to the clock in the classroom than the teacher.
In between periods music rang throughout the loud speaker to get everyone excited for the event and even the last period of the day consisted of a pep rally. So the bell rang to be dismissed for class and everyone began to leave and almost being out of the class the teacher grabs me by my shoulder and says to me, "Logan, I understand you have a game today, but I wrote you up for failure to follow a reasonable request, which was to pay attention.” I replied “Yes sir, I understand.” So from there I got sent to the office, had to meet with the assistant principal, who liked me a lot and did not give me any further punishment. Although I did have to call my mother and inform her that I was written up, she wasn’t too pleased with me. The assistant principal knew that if my coach would have found out about the punishment I wouldn’t have a chance to play in the game. After meeting with the assistant principal I went throughout the day paying the utmost attention in the rest of my classes. The pep assembly came and the principal brought all of the football players out onto the court with the
cheerleaders. He made us do embarrassing dances, chants with the rest of the school and the band also played. The whole school was rattling with noise and I could feel the blood rushing through my veins, I was ready to play. After school we ran through our plays and prepared for the game. We got to the stadium via bus, which was not the most comfortable ride. Sweating before even putting my helmet and pads on I knew it was going to be a hot night. The pre-game consisted of various warmups to get our blood flowing properly and muscles stretched. The scoreboard ran down to zero and it was game time. We won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. The opening quarter was one that mostly got all the first game jitters out. We were playing a strong, fast, game. However, we were trailing at the end of the first 7-0. In the second quarter is when things got very interesting. Me not being the biggest kid on the team, I played the position of running back and safety. The first play of the second quarter I ran the ball right through the middle of the line for what was 25 yards and a touchdown. The game was now tied up and the crowd began to get immensely involved. We were battling the whole second quarter and on the last drive before half time our quarterback dropped back to throw a pass, a defensive line men got through the lane and absolutely pummeled him. He was screaming and clearly got injured on the play, the whole crowd went completely silent. He got walked off the field with assistance of the coaches and was done for the rest of the night. The second quarter ended with a tie score, 7-7. At half time our coach went over a strict game planned and claimed if executed properly we would come out of the game victorious. Motivated and ready to finish off this game we headed out of the locker room. To start the third quarter we held the opposing team to a field goal, now the score was 10-7. We quickly drove down the field and finished off the drive with a touchdown to make the score 14-10 in our favor. We fought back and fourth for the rest of the third quarter, however the score still sat the same 14-7. Now it was time to finish off the game. They started the fourth quarter off by continuously running the ball up the middle and we had no answer for it. They drove completely down the field and scored a touchdown making the game 17-14. Our next drive did not end as planned and our backup quarter back threw an interception, however we were able to quickly get the ball back after a forced fumble. With one minute left in the game we had the ball. To win the game we continuously threw pass after pass and begin making progress down the field. With 10 seconds left the coach called in a play for me, a halfback toss to the outside. Nervous because I knew the task at hand I wiped my sweaty palms off on my towel and lined up in the formation. The quarterback tossed the ball to me and running as fast as I could to the outside i dove and leaped for the corner of the end zone scoring the game winning touchdown. The crowd exploded and everyone was ecstatic that we came out victorious.
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
I got dressed like normal, and got a partner and started bumping the volleyball like yesterday. But what changed today was that we were going to the high school. When we got to the high school the same routine happened. Also today, some people got cut from the team. When they started calling people off I would hear a few names that sounded like Jalyn but were luckily not mine. After the list was over, the coach bursted out,” Everyone that was called please go to the side so the coaches can talk to you, “Then she softly whispered to us,” You guys have made it past the first set of cuts.” We all started cheering but was quickly got hushed down by the coach with her brief, yet informative hand gestures. When we got on the bus, the ones that made it sympathetically apologized to the people that got cut on the bus ride home but when we got back everyone that made it gathered in a circle and
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
We had been waiting all day, we were all ecstatic for practice. It was the last of the season. As soon as the final bell rang, we raced to our locker room to get dressed. I made sure to grab my spikes and was off to our team meeting place. As the team gathered with excitement we saw our coach approaching us with a look of despair. He explained to us that the high school students would be taking over the track for the day and that our last middle school, track and field practice would not be happening. Many of the students were very upset because it was at our school and so therefore it was our track. Many incidents like this have more than likely happened to the swimmers and softball players as well.
The scariest thing that I have ever experienced was dislocating my knee during my high school basketball game. While attending Forestview High in 2013 the second game of the season, I acquired my knee injury against Highland Tech. I was very excited about the game because I worked very hard to take a senior spot and was finally getting the opportunity that I was waiting for. Everyday during practice, I gave my all, all the blood, sweat, and tears that I experienced I just knew it was my time. Tuesday, November 22 we get to Highland, warm up, and finally it's time for tip-off. The first quarter I get off to a rough start getting all the jitters out. Second quarter arrives, then I began to get the feel of the game. As I penetrated down the lane after hitting a mean crossover, I came to a jump stop
Malcolm X once said, “There is no better than adversity. Every defeat; every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance next time.” I stared closely at the scoreboard, watching the seconds count down. I grasped that I would not be playing in this game or the next, or the one following that. This season would be a learning experience, an experience that would strengthen my mind and spirit. My first year on varsity soccer was truly a challenge. I struggled for the first time in my soccer career and faced many difficult obstacles, along the way. The season began, and I was immediately labeled as a “reserve” player. I was a bench warmer and a useless substitute, who had minimal playing time.
My team was trailing by a touchdown the whole game, but Shane, who was on my team, made a pick six to tie the game with five minutes left of recess. All we had to do was stop the other team from scoring and then get the ball back and score. That was easier said in done though. The other team was forcing their way down the field and all hope appeared lost, but then out of nowhere the other team fumbled the ball on a fake hand-off. In the midst of all the chaos to get the ball I saw my team come out with the ball. Now the game was tied and we had the ball, but there was only enough time for one more play and we were in the other teams redzone. I remember asking Mrs.Shafer for a little extra time so we could come up with a play and she allowed
What's going on in my life right now is I have a freshman football game tonight. I'm the quarterback and linebacker. We have a game on 9/11 which is a little bit weird because it's such a sad day in America. But we gotta play through adversity and come home with the win. We're playing Iowa falls @ Iowa falls so a little bit of a drive a little over an hour. The game starts at 5. This is our first conference game and I think we're well prepared and ready to go.We put in some new running plays this week that hopefully throw off the Iowa falls defense.
It was hot, Caleb and I were warming up before the soccer game. Caleb was tall and muscular, I was short and skinny. This was our last game and we had lost all our games prior. “This could be our chance to finally win a game,” I said to Caleb. We joined the team huddle to talk about the rules the ref gave us and to be assign our positions. I was assigned right wing while caleb was assigned striker. The sun was slowly disappearing in the horizon like a item in quicksand as the game started.
It was two days until the first game of my last high school football season. My team and I were going to play Bayfield, a battle we had persistently prepared for since the last game of our junior year. The sun was beating on my pads, radiating the heat to make practice seem even worse. I was exhausted and looking forward to the end of my last sweat poring practice for the week. Our team was repetitively executing plays to make sure they were like second nature to us on Friday.
As I watched my first 3 go in, it felt good. It was perfectly on target with the perfect pass from Emma. One after another went in and I could not have felt better about how this game against Clarksville was going. As the first half ended, I could not keep the smile off of my face as I ran into the locker room. Even though I was excited, my team was more excited for me than I would have imagined. Even though I had shot many three’s, I had no idea how many I had made of the record of the most three’s in a game. With seconds left remaining in the fourth quarter, I wanted one more three to go in but I just could not get the ball. After Clarksville scored, I then became the point guard and I had to try to get myself open. I ended up in the corner with seconds remaining so I just threw the ball to the rim. As I shot the ball behind the 3, I got fouled but made the basket. The crowd went crazy! I finally had the chance for a four point play.
“Time,” Coach yells from the sideline. It was the final quarter of the game and we had the ball and we were down by 3 points.
My first college football is a season I’d never forget. I broke so many records, I got my first college touchdown, and I met some new people and made friends that I know I’d remember forever. I graduated from Seminole high school in the spring of 2014 I was supposed to attend the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California in the fall of 2014 but things happened so I had to go in the spring of 2015. Before I went up there I was working at Walmart trying to save money and working getting my body physically right and getting myself mentally prepared because I never been away from home so it was an experience for me going all the way across the country. This will be the first time being away from family, friends, and my son that was just born 2 weeks after I graduated high school.
Since I came to ETSU last year I was dying to go the first football game of the season. So I couldn’t wait to get my ticket to the first home game of the year. Monday morning I was outside getting my ticket. I waited in line, sitting in the morning cold outside of the Culp Center for about 30 minutes just to get my tickets. My friends walked by me in line asking what I was doing. I said with glee in my voice, “getting my ticket!”
Although class was over and my brain felt like mashed potatoes, I felt proud conquering another mundane day of school. I entered the locker room to change for soccer practice. The smell of sweat, cheap cologne, and boys filled my nostrils. I changed into the proper athletic apparel and walked onto the practice field. It was a perfect day, a little hot I suppose, but who could complain? The sun was radiating warmth, birds chirping, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. I remember thinking to myself, life is so grand right now, nothing could possibly ruin this day for me. I greeted my teammates and coaches with a bright smile and a cheerful “hello!” After going through the daily routine of practice, running, drills, and an intense cool down, my friends and I walked back to the locker rooms. As we were chatting along, cracking jokes and making meticulous strategies for tomorrows match, my friend Ricky made a comment that still haunts me to this day. “Hey Al” He began, “Have any rice for your lunch today?” My heart skipped a beat. “Yeah, what was it like being the only guy in school having rice with their lunch?!” Another friend said, pitching into the insults. I was speechless. My brain failed to create any sort of response. Looking back now, I regret not saying anything, but at that exact moment I was dead silent; I felt completely alone, even though I was surrounded in a
