on October 11th i went on a hunt that would change my hunting experience. I walked to my stand with my dad and we saw some fresh tracks. we had some bait out and then we went to the stand the bait was gone we got up in the stand and got ready.we got up in the stand and brought the gun up and got settled in.
At about 4:45 pm a deer came in it was almost dark and I got a clear shot at it my heart was beating like a drum it went right between two trees and bam then instantly i saw blood fly and then she fell to the ground
we went to track it i still had the jitters from shooting and it was really cold we found it i thought it was a rock but it was the deer sitting there dead as a doornail.we brought it back to the cabin and cleaned it and
hung it on the buck pole.
As we knocked our arrow in the bow we strolled into the woods as quiet as a mouse. Kevin showed me where the stand was and i went into game mode. I climbed in the stand and i started to look around. Less than 30 minutes a 4 pointer came at 23 yards but since it was small i let him walk. I had about 10 minutes of light left and it has been 2 hours since i seen him. Crashhhhh. A doe was at 20 yards. I drew back and looked threw the sites. I seen that she had no idea i was there and i felt bad if i would have taken her life. I diss drawn and let the doe walk.
I was too excited to sleep that night so I just stayed up and read. It was finally 4:30 in the morning and time to get up. After a quick bowl of cereal. I jumped in the pickup and drove to where I was going to hunt. It was still dark when I got there so I grabbed my stuff and started up the mountain. I got to where I wanted to glass from, and waited for it to get light, so I could start looking for elk.
In Richard B. Lee’s article, “What Hunters do for a Living” he takes readers into the world of the !Kung Bushmen who lived in the Kalahari desert. He then documents their gathering and food practices during the late 1960’s. Many decades ago, humans were entirely dependent on gathering and hunting their own food. Vegetables were 60-80% of the !Kung Bushmen’s total diet (Lee, 1968, p. 37). Today, engage in dietary habits including detrimental to our health. We now have genetically modified, heavily processed ready to eat foods that are quick and easy. This adds to our present health concerns because obesity rates are higher than ever. Being overweight or obese creates a snowball effect to other health concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes,
Years ago my family took a trip to Yellowstone National Park. I chose this common experience for this memory assignment. First, I made a list of all the things I remembered from my trip at Yellowstone. I remembered we traveled in our motorhome and got halfway to our destination and parked on the side of the road and slept there for the night. I remember seeing the famous geyser; Old Faithful, in addition to seeing lots of bison, and bears. I recall one night that we stayed in a campground bears were in the campground and we were being told to stay in our campers. I also remember during the trip my dad would give me all the spare change and I would collect it. I saved the change up to buy souvenirs or candy. I also remember going to a shirt
The first time I ever shot a deer was back in 2011. I was in 5th grade. This was not the first time I had gone out hunting, just the first time I ever went out to shoot a deer. It was a fairly warm fall day and my mom took me out with her to the new hunting shack my dad just built. It is a very sturdy shack made with wood that blends into the trees around it. It sits in our tree line viewing our hay field with woods all around the field. The smell of fall, decaying leaves dying grass hung in the air heavily. My mom told me to not expect to shoot anything my first time out. We waited out for a few hours before we started to see anything but everything we saw was too far away to get a shot at. We waited probably another half
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
Can you single out just one day from your past that you can honestly say changed your life forever? I know I can. It was a typical January day, with one exception; it was the day the Pope came to St. Louis. My brother and I had tickets to the youth rally, and we were both very excited. It was destined to be an awesome day- or so we thought. The glory and euphoria of the Papal visit quickly faded into a time of incredible pain and sorrow, a time from which I am still emerging.
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
I noticed much of what I was standing sitting on was a metal slab with a glass covering, and something other than my muscles respond. My arms were gas, fluffy and full of nothing, yet there was power behind them. I touched a cool glass willing it to open, when it shattered amidst the rumbling.
One day I had an idea and then I asked him “Dad would you like to go hunting? He said” sure son” but then the wind speed kicked up things started to fall.So we hurried and flew out the door and got in the car, and went up north. But when everything was going right the car tire popped and we ran out of gas so we had to push the car. Then we finally got our tire fixed and all juiced up and back on the road. And when we were going to a place to hunt people were already there.
Question: Do you know what 15 seconds of fame means, well I know what it meant and I had my 15 seconds of fame during one of my first fishing experience. Another thing is We’ve been fishing for like 2-3 hours because I didn’t know the rules which took 1 hour to learn and for myself to demonstrate. To be honest it was fun and a cool somewhat family bonding time.
Katherine stood there, reminiscing of Stefan; she wasn't surprised that he still believed she could change.
The summer of my junior, my friend Brandon went to Big Bear. He was there for a week and said “I got something for you”. He refused to tell me what it was no matter how much I insisted. My first thought was that he was going to be the goofball that he is and say he brought me snow. When he finally got back and we both entered our summer class he showed me. In slow motion I could see what he had in his backpack. It was a coca cola bottle, but as I turned it I realized that it had my name on it. I have always told him that merchandise with names on it usually never have my name. It was such a simple gift yet so thoughtful. It meant a lot to me because something so small made me smile. It meaningful because it was a surprise but not one I expected
The stillness of it all made it seem like a picture, like the earth was frozen in time. We were both zoned out taking in the surrounding. A small fox came out of a mound in the grown up grass and started running around in front of us occasionally pouncing down on what seemed to be a rat, each time he would come up with an empty mouth and keep on his way. Crows were perched high on tree limbs cawing to the others around, it sounded like a warning call, like something you hear in a scary movie. Suddenly it all seemed to stop, I heard my sister gasp and she jolted her legs to the side. I started to speak, but was interrupted by her telling me to move out of the way. Pulling her gun up she locked in on a deer running down the hill. We could hear each hoof hit the ground and we knew she could not get a good shot with it running. Panicking, I started to whistle, and to our disbelief, it stopped. Once again time was still. I did not move my eyes from the deer that was now about 100 yards away from us. My ears started to ring and I felt a knock in my chest. My sister jumped up and started to unload the gun; that is when I realized she had taken the shot. Unzipping us from the blind she started hopping around, it was like someone had just given her a million bucks. When we got over to the deer the excitement only grew, the deer was
So then we started walking it took us an hour to get to our stands once we got there it was about 7:30 am so we sat down, and waited to see if any deer would come without being called. So we sat there for thirty minutes, and nothing showed up. With us being thirty minutes into our hunt, we decided to get out our call bag. My dad, and I started calling, and waited after ten minute a whole bunch of deer started running, and they were being chased by a pack of five coyotes so we grabbed our shotguns , and took the coyotes out. Once the coyotes were down went a 100-300 yards out from our stands so we had to call them back since they were so far out, so my dad grabbed the call bag and started calling, and after twenty minutes of calling a huge 12 point buck came out of the brush. So I told my dad to do a snort and wheeze so my dad
