I became apart of this world on the morning of May 20, 1994 at 8:15 am. I was born at St. John’s hospital in Queens, New York. My early childhood years were spent growing up in South Ozone Park, Queens. My family and I lived with my grandparents in their home for about thirteen years. Also, in that neighborhood is where I attended Catholic school from kindergarten through eighth grade. As a young child, I was brought up in a christian household, which was family oriented. I attended Sunday school as well as church every week and was a part of big celebrations and occasions around the holidays. Having the chance to grow up surrounded by my whole family, groomed me into being the person I am today. The morals instilled in me was to always be …show more content…
I’ve been this way since early childhood, so not much has changed. However, as an adult I’ve watched myself mature into a more self-confident and disciplined person. I believe there should be and equal balance between having a good time and being self-controlled. During my teen years I wasn’t the most sociable or active person. However, I attempted to break that cycle towards my last year of high school. My high school journey began in September 2008 where I attended Jamaica High School in Queens, New York. After a few ups and downs I successfully finished high school in January 2013. My years spent in Highschool fashioned me into always remaining motivated no matter what. When it was time for my college experience I chose to attend Queensborough for it’s great reputation and the courses the college offered. I started my first semester in the Fall 2013. I’m pursuing a major in criminal justice. I’ve always dreamed of having a career in law enforcement, initially starting off as a police officer. The whole aspect of being in that field always sparked my …show more content…
I’ll be starting my first semester at John Jay in the spring of 2017. This statistics class is the last course I need to take in order for me to graduate. I’ve struggled with math, quite a bit, but I’m still anxious to see what this course will bring. I’m interested in seeing how we can collect data for the use of math. In my opinion mathematics is the collection of numbers, shapes etc that we use to make a statement true. Mathematicians solve problems with the help of different concepts. They also create new mathematical concepts and rules on how to solve various problems. Math is important to my education and career plans because I use math on a daily basis. My first semester I took remedial math which was difficult for me. I took the class with the mindset of just trying to pass, which resulted in a failure. The professor for this class was great, but I didn't have good study habits. The next semester I took the class again and passed it. I payed attention in class and developed good study habits. The only difference with this class was that it was partially online. The online homework gave my grade a boost. Also, the professor was helpful and explained the tough topics
I am a thirty two year old single mother, who is a returning student to Empire State College after a three year break. I began at Empire State College in 2011 with hopes of graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to that, I graduated from SUNY Genesee Community College with my associates in Criminal Justice in 2004 and I thought my college days were done; that there was no further need to advance my education to just be a police officer. However, getting into a full time police position was much more difficult than I ever imagined. At the time in 2011, I was working full time dispatching for the NYS Park Police, and working for two other part time police agencies working a variety and multitude of shifts. The feeling of being overwhelmed was a constant struggle, but I surprised myself that with hard work I was able to make good grades. Fast forward a
I also learned that mathematics was more than merely an intellectual activity: it was a necessary tool for getting a grip on all sorts of problems in science and engineering. Without mathematics there is no progress. However, mathematics could also show its nasty face during periods in which problems that seemed so simple at first sight refused to be solved for a long time. Every math student will recognize these periods of frustration and helplessness.
Criminal Justice is acknowledged as the study of crime and criminals. Although it 's not everybody’s first choice, before college I had always found this major genuinely appealing. However, in the beginning, it wasn’t something that I preferred to major in. When I started to consider attending college, at first I wasn’t interested in furthering my education. I used to contemplate about being an Au Pair in different countries, at another time I desired to become a baker. I didn’t honestly notice the point of continuing school when I become bored with classes as a result of nothing appealed to me. It wasn’t until after I had taken a CSI class that my high school offered, I became further interested in criminal justice. I finally had found a class that kept my attention the entire time and gave me the opportunity to have a job that will make a difference. Not having yet

The type of mathematics I like to work on are typically data sets and manipulating numbers. I seem to enjoy doing this type of mathematics because it is fun to work through puzzles they are presented with. Another reason I like this math is because of how powerful of a story numbers can tell. For example, I was able to use the data from a baseball tryout for the last team I coached, and determine my team. There was very little backlash from the players who got cut,

In the fall of 2018, I attend my freshman year of Gonzales High School located in Gonzales. The course that I enjoyed the most was English, which was taught by my favorite teacher Mr. Beutler. The reason why I enjoyed my English period was because we read a variety of stories and we wrote a couple of narratives. The course that I least enjoyed was Biology because although I understand and like learning about science, I found it boring compared to my other classes. Abilities I have acquired during school have been learning to research information for a project and organizing events for clubs. To add, skills I used during school was time management to get homework and studying done. To give more information, achievements I have obtained in the
The week of October 2nd through October 6th began with an ARD on Monday morning at 9:10 a.m. the meeting went for about an hour and the parents were concerned about some of the teachers who are not providing the accommodations according to the individual needs of the student. As a committee, we discussed some changes that needed to be recorded and the administrator assured that she would call in the teachers who were not adhering to these policies. I attended a faculty meeting where we discussed Title 1, the McKinney Vento Act, Leap Forward, CBA’s, flat panels, homecoming, red ribbon week, attendance policies, band achievement awards, duty, and technology. Ms. Menchaca spent some time explaining to the staff the importance of submitting attendance on time because she
