My experience at the Center for Social Innovation(CSI) or Fordham Foundry was underwhelming due to the lack of experienced people who were able to assist me. Being that I was unable to speak with the professor, I spoke with Anthony Parente and Enzo Obeso, two up and coming entrepreneurs who made their best efforts to inform me on what takes place at the Fordham Foundry. The CSI is a location for student run companies to work on their tasks, while it is also a place where college students can mold business ideas into the process of starting their own companies. The room is decently-sized, set up on the second floor of a building on Fordham Road. A long table stands in the middle of the room as a prime location for discussions, meetings, and collaborative talks for business consultation. The Fordham Foundry is supported by The Gabelli School of Business, the city government, and private donors to allow the workshops for young entrepreneurs to take place. The professors give out all the assistance and supporting cast for the students to work out their business ideas. Young entrepreneur, Anthony Parente, mentioned how the Foundry “provides a community and place where we feel comfortable struggling through the daily questions” and “the professors are always willing to give valuable feedback”. I spent the summer of 1968 working in an Armour meatpacking plant in my hometown of Worthington, Minnesota. The plant specialized in pork products, and for eight hours a day I stood on a quarter-mile assembly line—more properly, a disassembly line—removing blood clots from the necks of dead pigs. My job title, I believe, was Declotter. After slaughter, the hogs were decapitated, split down the length of the belly, pried open, eviscerated, and strung up by the hind hocks on a high conveyer belt. Then gravity took over.
The first day of field marks the beginning of a new teaching experience, and for that reason, the first day of field will forever be a nerve-wracking day for me. On September 13, 2016, I, Mr. Cataldo began a new teaching journey, at Carlstadt Public School, a suburban school, in Carlstadt, New Jersey—Mrs. Mariano’s sixth-grade language arts literacy classroom. While walking through the front doors of the school, numerous questions began to come to mind, such as the following: Will Mrs. Mariano and her students feel comfortable with my presence in their classroom? Today, I am fully aware that in life, one’s personal and professional experience, both good and bad, enables he or she grow as a person and more importantly as a learner. For that reason, I find it pivotal for one to realize that in life, it is normal to feel nervous, as well as make mistakes; what matters is that he or she is more than capable of transforming his or her mistakes into successes.
My involvement in JROTC has been one of the extracurricular activities that has had the greatest impact on me and that has demanded the most from my leadership. At the start of freshman year, I was the shy girl that never stepped out of her comfort zone and that rarely participated in class. his experience has had a tremendous impact on me because not only did it help me gain confidence, but it also allowed me to break free of my comfort zone and show the leader that I had within. I went from being the girl that would never raise her hand, to the girl that gives public presentations in a room full of people. I went to become the Battalion Commander of JROTC.
I am so ready for college. I could not wait for this moment to get here and it was finally here! In the year of 2016, I graduated from Community School of Davidson. I had applied to every school you could think of (Norfolk State, Spelman,Howard, and Tuskegee) just to name a few and decided to go with my first choice Tuskegee University. This was weird because I am a city girl and Tuskegee University is in the country.
I always wanted to be able to help provide for my family and our farm and have a sense of independence. I finally got an opportunity to do just this when I went to go work at the Lowell factory. I had numerous expectations of what it was going to be like, hoping for the best. I was mainly excited to get an education, as I had never done previously, and learn about other various informative topics. Of course the mill was not entirely as great as I desired, but it was a helpful way to make means for my family at the time.
The day has finally come. Move-in day for Johnson C. Smith University “Home of the Golden Bulls.”I marked my calendar every day faithfully. I dreamt of this glorious day after I proudly had walked to stage at my senior graduation for high-school. I was fresh out of high school, ready to pursue my dreams and become a step closer to reaching my goal in hopes of becoming a doctor. I made constant lists and like, Santa Claus, “I made my list and checked it twice.” I endured lack of sleep of packing and filling my living room with of the necessary and miscellaneous things for survival. I would be the first child (even though I am the middle child of seven) to be the furthest away from home.

Even before joining the Schuler Scholar Program, it was already an expectation for me to go to college. Coming from a low income family with parents who never got a chance to finish their studying, my siblings and I were expected to go to college. My mother would tell us that since we have the opportunities that she never had, there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to go to college. Growing up my mother was always very strict on my studies. I started studying vocabulary words, spelling, math and how to read at the age of two. My mother used some of my sibling old homework and give me some problems from the assignments. During elementary school, teachers would always tell us that we are too young to think about college.
I was caught in a state of distress. Running low on time,I had to make a decision quickly; a decision that would play a pivotal point in my life. This is an aggravating moment every highschooler endures: the college application process.
I am doing my externship at Abeltin & Migoya LLP. Currently, I am assisting the supervising attorneys with drafting and responding to discovery. The first goal I would like to accomplish during the externship is to develop client interviewing skills. The second goal is to develop and learn good lawyering skills. The third goal is to build more confidence in asking questions and approaching new projects. I discussed all three these goals with my supervising attorney on the first day of my externship.
