When I watched the Patriots and Falcons play in the Super Bowl in February of 2017, I had no idea that the next time I watched a football game I would be on the sidelines, right in the middle of all the action. However, that’s exactly what happened, and my experience as a football manager is not one that I will ever forget. At the end of my junior year, the head football coach (who was also my AP Government teacher) asked me if I wanted to be a manager for the football team. He told me I would be at all the practices and games and that I would get in free. He made a compelling offer, but I turned him down because I didn't think I would have enough time during the summer with my classes, work, and vacation. One of my friends, however, took him
American football in the past several years have really developed, not only from the fans perspective but also from the players and the official heads. Safety is the most important topic talked about in all sports but it is a must in football, especially because of the way the game is played with all of the tackles and hits. It is really important not only for the players to be safe but also the officials to keep it safe. Both players and officials play a key role in making the game of football safe and interesting to watch for the fans and a great experience for the players as well. As said in the Denver Post, players are expected to play with the rules…coaches are expected to teach…and game officials to emphasize the rules. I began playing in third grade, honed in my talent playing with friends and teammates in year-round competitive leagues. I had dreams of earning a spot on the varsity team as a high school freshman. Going into high school, I was an athlete with high confidence but after my freshman year I started to lose interest and began to dread practice.
These are just a few ways of how the NFL has changed into the game it is today. Although I didn’t cover a lot of the other years I covered the starting years that got this show on the road. Most of the things I talked about in this paper are still in use today so that means that that transformed the game into the game it is today.
The Head Coach of the JV Football team has given me the honor of being his Special Teams Coach. This job requires me to train his kickers, punters, long snappers, and holders. Starting August 1st I began working with a kicker for 2 hours per day and he has shown major improvement over the past month and a half. In the beginning, though he was very pessimistic about his success and it took a lot of motivation on my part for him to not quit. When I began training him we had to begin from the ground up because he had never kicked a football before in his entire life which was a major barrier to his success we had to get over. A brief explanation of football is this, a game of two teams trying to score as many points as possible in the allotted amount of time. Each team has an offense and defense when the team is on offense they either run the ball or pass the ball to try and score a touchdown, while the opposing team's defense is trying to force the team's offense to give up the ball or the possession. Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school.
