I decided to spend some time playing my guitar again. I learned to play it in high school years ago and really enjoyed it. I had to stop, though, due to the strain it was putting on my wrist. It took a bit to remember the basic cords (thankfully I still have my book) but after an hour or so, I was playing full songs again. In high school, we had to perform a favorite song of our to the class, and being the dark, "emo" kid I was, I picked songs that matched that. When playing again this last weekend, I realized I haven't really moved on from that mindset and stuck to (attempting) to play songs from the bands My Chemical Romance and Paramore. Paramore was a lot easier to play, as many of the songs I practiced didn't have different string patterns
Prior to the concert I had been somewhat familiar with all three bands' music. I
Paramore’s mix of emo-pop and alternative rock & roll eventually made them stars on both sides of the Atlantic ocean, they began their career in Franklin, Tennessee, where Hayley Williams met brothers Josh and Zac Farro after moving to town from Mississippi with her family in 2004. Already a powerful vocalist at the age of 13, Williams signed with Atlantic Records as a solo artist, but conflicted with the label over the direction of her career and genre of music she was supposed to play. Seeking to form her own band, Hayley convinced Atlantic Records to let her piece together a full lineup. Lead guitarist and backing vocalist Josh and drummer Zac Farro were called in for the job, as were rhythm guitarist Jason Bynum and bassist Jeremy Davis. John Janick, CEO and co-founder of the “Fueled by Ramen”, a Florida-based recording label with a strong emo-pop and alternative rock acts, was amazed by their sound and decided to go to one of their live performances in Orlando, Florida, to see them playing live. After he saw these young musical talents, John invited them for a smaller private performance where he said he wanted to sign them. To help attract a younger audience, Atlantic decided to co-sign the band with Fueled by Ramen in 2005. Holding this amazing chance in their hands, band didn't want to waste precious time and started to record their debut album. At that stage, Jeremy, the bass player, unfortunately had to leave the band citing personal reasons. Few days after he left, the four remaining band members, wrote a song called "All We Know" as a tribute to Jeremy's withdrawal. They decided to base the whole album off of that. Before the album "All We Know Is Falling" was released, Paramore asked Jeremy to re-join the...
“By the way all of my music is not like this, I just chose to play
There was one instance in which our electric guitar player, Ethan, and I disagreed on how to incorporate the electric guitar into a song. He argued that the song needed a stronger sound and that he felt the song was empty without it. I told him that I understood his thoughts, but the electric guitar would get distracting and overwhelm the listener. He explained that he felt that he was getting cut out of the song, but I reassured him that his part was significant. The electric guitar embellishes and creates a more intense experience for the listener. I told him that the focus point within the song was the piano, and we needed a more rhythmic foundation to compliment it. Ethan suggested that he play bass guitar to fill in the weak spots, and ultimately the song was given a more finished sound. After finding middle ground with Ethan, I felt even closer to our band. I did not just feel a part of, but I felt like a leader within my discourse

Whenever kids join band, they typically have their mind set on the instrument they want to play, and for me, this was percussion. In sixth grade we had the opportunity to join band, and become part of prestigious and successful group at our school. I dreamt of being the lead percussionist and leading the band by keeping the beat and making sure everyone was always together. I had my heart set on percussion ever since I was little, seeing my uncle play drums, banging his head around wildly, hitting drumsticks so hard they broke, and having so much fun with it; I wanted to have that much fun, too.
For the sake of conformity, I had to accomplish this task so that I could put a smile on my parents’ faces, even though I despised that guitar with all my heart. I went week after week to the instructor, and week after week, I would come back distressed and tired of the lessons and of the incredible amount of practice hours required.
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
Attention-getter: Imagine listening to your favorite genre of music. Whether it is either country, rock, or even hip hop, most likely, one of those songs will have a guitar in it.
The Rock was a football player before he went into wrestling. He had his dreams turned down when he wasn't drafted; this set back didn't stop him, but propelled him to pursue a career he truly loves, wrestling. This was astonishing to me when I found out because I can relate this experience to my current life situation. I worked really hard running track in high school, but wasn't recruited to run in college, so I turned my focus to computers, as it is my first love. Watching The Rock at his debut, so full of life, would make me feel like anything is possible. Dwayne has a way of making people feel like they can overcome any obstacle in their life.
The music we know as rock and roll emerged in the mid-1950s, although its advent had been on the horizon for at least a decade. A quarter of the American population moved during World War II, and that brought southern, rural, sacred and secular traditions into new contact with urban based music and audiences. The product of many regional musical scenes and independent record labels, rock and roll emerged in Memphis, Los Angeles, Shreveport, New York, Detroit, Baltimore, and dozens of other cities. It was, in historian Charlie Gillett’s words, the Sound of the City.
As the dark stadium filled with fire, with the sounds of guns and bombs exploding everywhere, the crazed fans yelled at the top of their lungs. The enormous stage was rumbling with the sound of a single guitar as the band slowly started their next encore performance. Soon after I realized that I was actually at the Sanitarium concert listening to Metallica play "One", I thought to my self, "Is this real, am I actually here right now?" I had a weird feeling the entire time because I had worked all summer to simply listen to music with a bunch of strangers.
Ever since I was a small child, I have loved music. The strong, steady beats, the
I listen to all kinds of music except rock. i can’t stand that music; that’s for crazy people. the most i listen to would be spanish and country. there is nothing like that music better then anything else. that music just makes me feel better. when i’m sad i listen to country and makes me feel better and when i’m happy i listen to spanish. My favorite genre in music is country music, because the singers express their feelings. country music is different because the entire singer’s relate to their child hood. they also relate to their family members. they also relate to iraq and how family members react when they’ve been told that their love ones aren’t coming back home. they express their love life’s and make you think about “falling in love”
