The first band I chose was My Chemical Romance because, I have heard of them before but had never listened to them. I first listened to two of their songs Welcome to the Black Parade and Teenagers from their album The Black Parade. Then I listened to another two Helena (So Long & Goodnight) and I’m Not Okay (I Promise) from their album Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. After listen to these songs by My Chemical Romance they have a very loud and emotion filled voices, which is good because I believe they want to get the point across that there are bad things that happen in life but one cannot dwell on it. I would put My Chemical Romance in the rock genre because, they use a lot of percussion instruments like the drums and the guitar. I like their
Their work encompasses many genres into one. The band’s musical influences are comprised of jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, folk, and country. Also, the band began to gain popularity during the movement of psychedelia. Psychedelic elements can be heard in almost all of their albums.
I can’t touch music, but it touches me. I cannot exist without it. Music surrounds me and envelops me. The music isn’t just background noise, it has power. The lyrics beat and intensity can fill me with angst, sadden me, pump me up and help me relax. Music is life and it has power. It helps me delve deep into my personality and individuality and has helped me discover a more introspective side of myself. However, it wasn’t always like this.
The rock band mattered for a number of reasons. the primary and main reason was clearly
Genre- I feel that this song would fall along the lines of the Pop Rock genre. I feel that this song falls into this genre because it has a very upbeat sound, but also has the rock guitar.
Since I play violin, viola, and piano, I’m never really bored. Over the years, most of the songs I learn to play are the older r&b songs, and the occasional classics. I like artists like Michael Jackson, Mary j. Blige, Monica, Brandy, New Edition and many others. I would say my favorite artist would be Mint condition. I like the group mint condition because of their sound. My favorite songs by them are ‘Pretty Brown Eyes’ and ‘Breakin My Heart’. They have a certain vibe, and the way they harmonize is so well put together it sounds natural. I also like their confidence, the way they dress and their album covers are very different. They are a very big inspiration and I aspire to be that
Led Zeppelin appeared in the music scene, setting the new tone for a harder rock. Led Zeppelin reached new heights of commercial and critical success that made them one of the most influential groups of the era. Black Sabbath and Deep Purple transformed Led Zeppelin’s new style into a “heavier metal” rock. These bands later influenced other bands such as Judas Priest and Motörhead, which eventually started the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the 1980s.
Some of the top bands that I associate as being alternative include The Used (a local Orem band), Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, A Perfect Circle, Tool, and countless many more. Why I associate myself with alternative rock music above any others could be a number of reasons. I really enjoy the beat, rhythm, and overall sound that the drums and electric guitars make in unison; but this is true of why I like any music. I think that a very strong reason I relate to this more is because of how well the lyrics correlate with my own life. I like how no matter where I am at in life, the lyrics can really speak to me and mean something. When I listen to the same song later in life, not only does it bring a sort of nostalgia with it, but the same lyrics are able to relay something entirely different from years
Metalcore is described as having a complex history but mainly comes from thrash metal, hardcore punk, and extreme metal. Thrash metal is a subgenre of heavy metal that is characterized most typically by its fast tempo and aggression. Thrash metal songs typically use percussive beats and fast, low-register guitar riffs overlaid with shredding-style lead work. The origins of thrash metal are generally traced to the late nineteen seventies and early nineteen eighties when a number of predominately american bands began fusing elements of new wave British heavy metal with the speed and aggression of hardcore punk. A note worth mentioning is that thrash metal is widely regarded as having a “Big four” group of bands, being the most successful and influenti...
The first and most popular genre on the list is heavy metal. This is also referred to simply as metal by most people. Metal is a genre of rock music that was developed between 1969 and 1974. “With roots in blues-rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, heavy, guitar-and-drums-centered sound, characterized by the use of highly-amplified distortion and fast guitar solos” (Ben, History of Heavy Metal). Heavy metal fans have been known around the world as “metal-heads” and “headbangers”. Some of the early heavy metal bands include Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
Throughout the 1970’s, there were several musical groups experimenting with new styles and techniques within their musical compositions. This musical exploration began with the Beatles, when they released their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which pushed new frontiers in studio experimentation. What stood out about this album is how widely electric many of the songs were. Other artists began experimenting with vocals, instrumentation choice, rhythmic structures, and many other musical components, ultimately pushing the boundaries of rock. Several sub-genres were developed during and shortly after this time including noise rock, indie rock and post rock. One such sub-genre of music to arise from this era was math rock.
As the dark stadium filled with fire, with the sounds of guns and bombs exploding everywhere, the crazed fans yelled at the top of their lungs. The enormous stage was rumbling with the sound of a single guitar as the band slowly started their next encore performance. Soon after I realized that I was actually at the Sanitarium concert listening to Metallica play "One", I thought to my self, "Is this real, am I actually here right now?" I had a weird feeling the entire time because I had worked all summer to simply listen to music with a bunch of strangers.
The term genre in music can be used to describe different forms and styles of music all over the world, whether it be country, rock, jazz, pop, and so on. But the terms used for genres can be considered broad and/or vague, so music that is commonly classified in any given genre can be categorized more specifically. For example, jazz can be a broad term for other subgenres such as Cool jazz, Free jazz, Dixieland, Ragtime and numerous other examples. This general rule applies to many different genres of music, and metal music is no exception.
I decided to spend some time playing my guitar again. I learned to play it in high school years ago and really enjoyed it. I had to stop, though, due to the strain it was putting on my wrist. It took a bit to remember the basic cords (thankfully I still have my book) but after an hour or so, I was playing full songs again. In high school, we had to perform a favorite song of our to the class, and being the dark, "emo" kid I was, I picked songs that matched that. When playing again this last weekend, I realized I haven't really moved on from that mindset and stuck to (attempting) to play songs from the bands My Chemical Romance and Paramore. Paramore was a lot easier to play, as many of the songs I practiced didn't have different string patterns
In conclusion I must point out that it was very hard for me to pick just one style of music or just two bands. There are so many other styles of music I enjoy listening to and numerous artists that I totally appreciate. I could probably write forever naming all the musicians and different styles of music I enjoy.
