I use my talents, interest, and abilities to help enhance my christian faith, leadership, and service. The crazy thing about my faith is I wasn't always a christian and when I rebelled against God I went through hell. The one summer during high school I was forced to go to church camp even though I didn't believe anymore, but this changed my walk with Christ. I finally made my way back to Christ because I wanted to have a personal relationship with him; not because this was out of obligation to my parents. I use my musical talents by singing in my church’s praise team. I plan and teach a youth lesson because I like to preach the word of God. This helps me speak the word of God and share my own unique testimony. Also actions can speak louder than words because I participate in the Pro- Life silent, solitary day each year in hopes to end abortion. I serve the Lord by helping a community through my youth group and my school’s Key Club. Also, I serve my community by participating in the PAL Lunch program once in a while. Compare and Contrast: To my understanding the letter that Martin Luther King Jr. composed while confined in the Birmingham Jail, is as one with the appeal that was given by David Walker. Both the letter and the appeal were pleas, pleas to the African American race. Not only to African Americans, but to my surprise and yours it was also written to all races suffering from the same injustice. These pleas were strong and very urgent.
Most people do not actively seek out adversity, yet few can escape encountering adversity in the form of hardships and afflictions. Two people who faced great adversity in their lives were Martin Luther King Jr. and my father Brent Vickery. These men both faced adversity in different degrees and at different times and places within the United States, but what makes them similar is that their strength of character allowed them to face adversity boldly.

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s impact on the civil rights movement was nothing short of monumental. To say anything less may be considered sacrilege in the history of the United States. King’s liberal and Christian upbringing, comfortable and educated childhood, and his theological education all played a large part in his contributions to civil rights in America.
During the mid-1950s through the mid-1960s, Martin Luther King, Jr. had become the “moral leader” and icon of the Civil Rights Movement. King had transformed into the martyr of the movement and spoke at around two hundred civil rights activism events a year. Still, King was torn between being the martyr for his people and showing support for other organizations with oppositional views. In Parting the Waters: America in the King Years, Taylor Branch illustrates the counter narrative of Martin Luther King Jr.’s struggles towards progress within the movement to the FBI, and the Kennedy Administration’s lack of involvement with civil rights, which blocked King’s progress as a successful black leader to prolong the unity of the movement.
From the "I Have a Dream" speech to "The Drum Major Instinct," Martin Luther King Jr. was notable speaker and leader during the Civil Rights Movement between the 1950s and the 1960s. Based upon his Christian beliefs, King used nonviolence and civil disobedience to achieve his goals of racial equality; the "I Have A Dream" sermon was famously delivered during the March on Washington in 1963, and a year proceeding, King received a Nobel Peace a Prize through his passive resistance. The activist was fatally shot in 1968, yet albeit his death, King became an iconic American figure, leaving a momentous legacy. The day following his assassination, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, in which caused a major leap forward for racial equality in the United States. In his honor, a memorial was erected in Washington D.C., reflecting his "I Have a Dream" speech alongside various messages from other sermons.
Martin Luther King, Jr. lost his life trying to better the lives of African American people who, because of their skin color, didn’t have the same rights as white people in America. King was a man of integrity and passion with a vision of a desegregated society. He played a part in the Civil Rights Movements where he eventually went to jail because of his protesting, and he became involved in the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott.
In our past there have been many leaders with unique leadership qualities, but the one leader who stands out is Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King showed leadership skills and qualities by protesting against segregation in the United States. Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929 to Alberta Williams King and Martin Luther King Sr. He was born in Atlanta Georgia at a time when African Americans were fighting for equality. ( Clark). King devoted most of his life to fight for equal rights for African Americans. In joining this fight he demonstrated courage, he never gave up on his beliefs, and was a phenomenal public speaker.
My Legacy Leader is LTC Brian A. Coppersmith, USA, Ret. LTC Coppersmith exemplified Army leadership from his character, presence, and intellect to his ability to lead, develop and achieve. LTC Coppersmith’s leadership ability directly affected me as a Human Intelligence Collection Sergeant operating under his command in garrison pre-deployment, and while deployed forward to Iraq. The example that LTC Coppersmith set for me is the foundation that I have used to guide each of my actions on as a leader. It is my hope that I will be able to positively influence and inspire at least one Soldier in the same manner that LTC Coppersmith inspired and influenced me.

Personal Narrative: The World The world is a messed up place and we are all stuck here until our lives are through, or until we choose to leave. It's strange that I go along with everything everyone tells me, such as that I should wear certain clothes or listen to certain songs. I often wonder why I do the things I do, but then I just realize that's who I am. People are confused about why they are here, and they don't understand what life is supposed to be about.
There are many things that have molded me into the person I am today such as being born into a family with four children. With three siblings, I have been forced to be able to work out problems from stealing each other’s toys to having to rush to the emergency room to get stiches because my brother chased me around the house and I tripped. My faith in Jesus Christ has had its fair share of ups and downs. Growing up in the church, I have never truly had a “life before Christ” like so many others have testified about; however, I have endured some life changing and faith altering situations. My faith has been heavily influenced by my family, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and most of all, by me. If there is one thing I have learned in my walk with Christ, just as C.S. Lewis said, it is that Christianity is like the rising sun; “not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
Throughout my journey in faith, I have realized a few things. Having faith in something or someone is a strong commitment, involving deep thought and powerful emotions. Faith not only demanded that I put my trust in places it has never been before, but it required me to give up a part of myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually in order to fully perceive the sensation. Through recent changes and new experiences, I have been able to develop my faith into something it hasn't been before. However, I know that I am young and that my faith still has much room to grow. I have many experiences left to discover in my life and I am ready to let God take me where I need to go to further develop my faith.
