Search Story I sat on the couch picking my nail with my friend and mother on either side of me. They were intently watching Dolphin Tale 2, a movie we all enjoyed. My friend looked at me as if she didn’t recognize me, I looked back at her as if I didn’t know myself. She asked me, “What is the matter with you! You usually enjoy this movie.” As I turned my head all I said was, “I want to be a marine biologist one day!” My mother and friend turned their heads suddenly and stared right at me. It felt like their stare was going to pierce right through my soul. They said both in sync, “What?” I replied, “I want to be a marine biologist.” My friend sat back in shock. She looked at me and asked, “Just five minutes ago …show more content…
I know that we had plans to be trainers together in the future, but this is what I want to do now.” I know that to be any kind of marine biologist, you should have a degree higher than a bachelor’s degree. Most scientists and doctors get their masters and/or PH.D. Marine biology has something to do with the ocean, from marine animals to the health of the ocean. There are many branches in the topic of marine biology that fall under it, like cetology (the study of whales and dolphins). Apart from that, I really don’t know much about marine …show more content…
Marine Mammalogy, Ichthyology and Marine ethology interested me the most so I went more in-depth and researched each careers salary, what they do and degree I would need. At the end I have learned that a research position pays much more than a trainer or assistant. In order to perform my own research and experiments I will have to obtain my Ph.D. I also learned what the branches are of marine biology. For a Marine Mammalogy, there aren’t a lot of college programs specifically for Marine Mammalogy. In order to obtain the degree I want, I will have to find a couple of colleges that do offer these programs. I got interested in marine biology in the first place by dolphins so when I found Marine Mammalogy it was an instant like. Due to this research I have now put the University of Hawaii of my radar, which I had never thought about going to Hawaii for college. This research helped me find what field I would like to go into when I’m
The process of becoming a zoologist requires great self-determination, persistence, patience, and discipline; the role of zoologists has taken on increased levels of importance recently because of the need to teach respect for the environment and also the animals of the world.
“They set a bomb off in the base,” she explained looking terrified. “Then they raided it and made sure that not a single one of us had escaped. I was lucky not to be there when it happened. I am even more lucky that they didn’t hunt me down.” She tipped the motorcycle over and hid it with some brush. “Follow me,” she demanded.
On my sixteenth birthday, my friends--we call ourselves The Crew--gave me the best gift ever. They combined two of my favorite things--the TV show, Law and Order, and Taylor Swift--and created a mini movie. The first time I watched it, and every time since, I crack up laughing. It is the funniest, quirkiest creation I have ever seen and it’s a fantastic representation of how thoughtful and loving my friends truly are.
Our career exploration class had a guest speaker yesterday. His name was Haul Romer. Mr. Romer was an offshore diver. He had no idea what he wanted to be when he graduated, so he joined the Coast Guard. Mr. Romer’s first job in the Coast Guard was a patrol board in Alaska stationed on an icebreaker. While in Alaska he discovered Alaska had opposite seasons than us and it was always daylight during Winter. While in the Coast Guard, a job came up for a diving job and he tried out, He was later accepted and attended a diving school in Hawaii. Mr. Haul came back to the Coast Guard as a part of the diving crew. He stayed at the Coast Guard for about four to four and a half years longer. After the Coast Guard, he decided he still wanted to dive and he attended a commercial diving school in Los Angeles, California. He came to the Gulf of Mexico and has been in the gulf since 1982. Mr. Haul Romer informed the class of all the extremely
In the degree that I am seeking I know there will be a lot of science to take. Science has always come natural to me, possibly because you can actually see the product and touch it. I plan to become a veterinarian not just for the love of animals but for the science and knowledge also. The dissecting of animals has always been interesting to me. It is a whole new world that I can wait to explore even more. It is amazing how God made living creatures. I just want to help keep them form getting sick and doctoring them when they do.
One nice and warm summer day my father took me to a man. He calls himself Dr. Gordon. Dr. Gordon wanted me to think that I wasn't a dolphin, and this idea was insane. So I refused. I wasnt going to give up my dream, my reality, just because some person I dont know wants me to. This went on for about three years every single week, and I hated every single second of it. So I ran, I know I was 14, and I knew this wasn't appropriate for someone my age. Who knows it could just be Dr. Gordon's lies. Well anyways I ran, I didn't look back, but I saw him again. The man, and he looked at me and said "Come here", and so I
Although it was a bright new day in Costa Rica, no one in my family was expecting for this day to sting so much. It was noon and me and my friend charged into the Gulf of Mexico splashing each other with the refreshingly cold water. The water was cold as ice and was all over us giving us the taste and smell of salt water to linger on us. We eventually stopped and gazed at our surroundings and we saw our hotel and rocky cliffs that were accompanied with festive and colorful coral. What we also noticed was the palm trees towering over everyone like skyscrapers and children screaming in delight. We also heard waves crashing onto shore, birds screeching, and the wind swaying the palm trees left to right. But then we rotated
As I sat in the boiling hot sun, the heat that had overwhelmed me throughout the day surpassed. I was engulfed by Lu Paul, a native Hawaiian advocate who was telling me the story of how Native Hawaiians loss their rights. “How did my people become a minority in their own land?” he asked me inquisitively. I found myself making many connections with this man’s story and my own. As he answered my questions about inequality in his community, he began to speak of many things that I had witnessed in my life, that I thought only my own culture experienced. “My people need to fight for equal education, language rights, and employment”, he stated firmly. It was in this moment I began to broaden my perspective of inequality and minority rights. This along with the many other field experiences I had during my semester abroad, help shape my desire to attend law school and work both nationally and abroad in civil and human rights.
After what seemed like an eternity of rigorous tests and dealing with the painful longing of wanting to hold a precious baby of my own in my arms, it happened; my dreams at long last came true. I was pregnant! But something happened; I felt my world come crashing down. The thought of bringing another life into this world terrified me.
My dream career would be becoming a Marine Biologist. I traveled a lot when I was younger and still continue to. Which is what started to lead me to wanting to be in this career. Another aspect being put into this is I joined swim at a very young age and have always loved water. One of the final aspects is I love animals, especially marine animals. I have always thought that they were the most in danger, they cannot speak out for themselves or show any actions to stop in. They aren’t easily seen to the public eye and a large number is still undiscovered. So they are easily overlooked and even if they are being mistreated no one can see so most don’t care. So I thought why not find a career that can help them, interacting, collecting data,
Zoology is a branch of biology that focuses on the study animals. It is concerned with all aspects of animal life, including the origins, behaviors, diseases, and genetic makeup of every kind of animal. The work zoologists do involve teaching and research. The national median salary for zoologist is around $57,000 a year, with most earning somewhere between $36,000 and $94,000 a year. Zoologist with a bachelor 's degree earn the lowest salaries, while those who have a masters degree can make significantly more. A zoologist can become the curator of a zoo, or obtain a research position at a 4 year college, where he or she could make upwards of $145,000 a year. High school students interested in a career in zoology should make sure that they have a good understanding of the basic sciences by taking courses in chemistry, biology, and physics. Math, computer and english courses would also be helpful. If you have a bachelor 's degree in biology or zoology you may be able to get a job as a field or lab technician. With a masters degree in biology, zoology, or a related discipline, you may be able to get certain discipline, you may be able to get certain research positions in government or industry, or you could become a research assistant to an academic zoologist. Zoology research is usually done in a lab or in habitat of the creatures being studied. Depending on the job, zoologist may need to spend several weeks, or even
A calm crisp breeze circled my body as I sat emerged in my thoughts, hopes, and memories. The rough bark on which I sat reminded me of the rough road many people have traveled, only to end with something no one in human form can contemplate.
One day my scientific was making my arms and my legs my head and my face. I was completely like a person I knew how to talkin my mind, but my scientific Jose cannot understand me. When he got done making all my body I woke up and tell him thank you for make me. We became friends with my scientific, but one day we fought and my scientific told me that he was going to make me die because I'm not a real person. I run away and asking for help but nobody could help because I was a robot. I was living at little town, and I was looking for a place to live, I was looking and looking, suddenly I saw a group of gangster and I asked them for help, but they didn't helped me so they started telling me bad stuffs and they kicked me and they cut my arm. I was sad because they had cut my arm. One day I was getting furious with everybody, whenever I see a person I fight them and very mad because I think all the humans are bad.
Another thing that is great about this field is that you get to tell other people about what you found and can have so much passion in doing so that they will feel the passion and get just as excited as you about the same thing. Being in this field is wonderful because people do not only get to enjoy the beauties of the ocean by themselves but they get to enjoy them with so many others that enjoy the passion all together. It helps people to grow stronger in their communication skills and cooperation skills because they are always working together to find out new things and how they may even be able to change some things. Marine biology is beautiful because it shows you new and exciting things about the ocean each and every
Everyone in the world has blood flowing through their bodies and it's a necessity for staying alive. There is a great demand for blood, with little to no supply for people who need it. Giving blood is a quick and easy way to help others, and also keeping oneself healthy. There is a shortage of blood, in the world caused by lack of donors, many ask why there is a shortage when people give all the time.
