Alex is now 21 and lives in Iowa. He still continues to carry on his no bullying act. Alex started in freshman year of highschool even though it was after he got out of middle school where he got bullied, he still felt that the other millions around the world needed to be stood up for. Bullying has become a major problem facing the United States today. The American Psychological Association reports that roughly 40% to 80% of children are involved in bullying on some level during their time in school. (APA, 2014) The magnitude of the problem can be observed in the statistics. In the United States, a total of 4,080,879 children between the ages of five and 18 have been the victims of bullying compared to 3,892,199 who have reported that they have engaged in bullying someone else. Additionally, 851,755 said that they have been both the victim and the bully. That's a whopping 8,824,833 people in the United States that have been involved in bullying behavior on one level or another. (High, B., 2000 Census)
Because of some of the circumstances that make me who I am, it is hard to say I have any one definitive home. Instead, I have had two true homes, ever since I was a young child. What makes this even more of a conundrum is that my homes have always had little in common, even though they are only a few hundred miles apart. Between the big city of Houston, Texas, and the small town of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, I have grown up in two very different towns that relate to one another only in the sense that they have both raised me.

The idea behind the Iowa Narrative project was to bring light to an unknown narrative that was connected to Iowa City in some way. My group decided to bring light to the Black Angel statue. We knew that the legend behind this statue was know around campus and that it was a legend many people believed in. Our purpose for shinning light on this legend was to persuade people to see that the myth may not be true. I feel like we accomplished this by setting our goal, setting the mood, logos, and using induction to gain credibility.

Bullying happens all around the world. The Anti-bullying movement started because kids all around the world were getting bullied and not a lot was getting done to stop it. This movement is meant for kids to feel like they can be themselves at school and not get judged for the way they act because it is part of who they are. This movement is needed to make a difference in the world and that difference is for the bullying to stop. The movement will discuss the people who started the movement and who is affected, the purpose of the Anti-bullying movement and what it hopes to achieve or change, and how the movement got going and what it accomplished.
As a society, we often underestimate the damages that bullying cause on children, not just America but all over, and the ones who suffer are the victims themselves. Victims are damaged with the stigma that they are weak, yet somehow have to fend for themselves against something that they have little to no control over. Whether it is for funding, a reputation or any other reason schools sweep their bullying problem under the rug or turn a blind eye, however they have more potential to end this growing issue. To the schools that think bullying is not their problem, they should know that according to heyugly.org, an anti-bullying campaign, “Approximately, 160,000 children a day stay home from school in fear of being bullied.”They also point out
Bullying has been around for decades and yet it is still a reoccurring problem, and it is only getting worse. The National Center for Educational Statistics, in 2009, said nearly 1 in 3 students between the ages of 12 and 18 reported being bullied in school. Eight years earlier, only 14 percent of that population said they had experienced bullying(Ollove,2014). There are two types of bullying the direct form and indirect form, in the direct form the victim receives physical harm example kicking pushing shoving. In the indirect form the victim receives emotional or mental harm by name-calling, rejection, gossip, threats, or insults(Green,2007). However, school became much more difficult and not as enjoyable when Alex started bullying him. Although he was not physically bullied too much, he was still negatively affected because of Alex’s harmful words and actions. The biggest stresses in high school should be turning in homework, studying for tests, and planning for the upcoming dances and events. A student should not have to panic whenever walking down the hall. They should be greeted with “Hellos” and smiles rather than violent shoves into a locker and being called names. Because of bullies, the victims are left feeling worthless and scared. They may even fear coming to school every day. The long term effects are just as negative as the short term effects though. A child who has been bullied may suffer from a variety of mental and emotional problems later on such as depression, anxiety, and other self-esteem issues. Not to mention, some teens even take their own life due to the harassment of the bully. All this trauma takes place just because a bully felt the need to pick on a helpless classmate. These victims should be enjoying their high school years with their classmates and friends, not running away from them. It was a cold, winter Colorado morning. I remember the snow coming down, from the blizzard we were about to start driving in. Tears running down our cheeks, saying our goodbyes to our family. I had never moved in my life, which was a scary thought to think to about. In just a few weeks, my sister, brother and I would be in a different state, in a different school, with different kinds of people.
I was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and lived in a small town on the outskirts of Jackson, where everybody knew everybody. It was there where I learned about God, life, and how to be a southern lady. I have a lot of memories of living in Mississippi. There is one memory that sticks out more than any others.
During my childhood, I had a dream to become an engineer; however, I received the first failure in my life when I had no eligibility to study at my favorite University. I had to choose another school, so my life turned the wrong way. It was such the hardest time that I never forgot in my life. Fortunately, I had a big turnaround when I settled in America. Everything was better, and I was pursuing a plan, which I did not finish in the past.
But there are some I shall refer to. For the “parents” or “teachers” who believe that bullying is there to make someone stronger or more emotionally fit. For the “Kids” who believe that bullying is a day to day normal thing. For the “victims” who believe Bullying will make you strong, well let me say, it will not. For instance, Adults who say it will make One stronger, It is opposing my view because I would rather want it to stop it than to let it be a ongoing issue in society. As for Kids who think it’s good to be bullied and to experience the whole reality, it goes against my belief because these are opinions about you in a negative way. Victims who also believe that this is a way to become stronger, is opposing my view as well since they 're willing to accept this act as a part of their life and to make an excuse for themselves for not stopping it. Now, where’s the evidence of the solution? there is none unfortunately, Bullying is too big and vast to even say if there is a solution to it. There’s one but that takes time, risks, and avoidance. It’s called Moving on, this may be difficult when you 're a kid, but time is as big as something you pretty much look up to. Pretty much the strong willed will be able to go through this, but what about the weak willed ones? We may not know this because bullying is a vague topic to discuss. It’s critical to even state that
Bullying has always been present within the United States. Although the issue has been around for a long time, it continues to grow and become more of problem. It is said that about 160,000 children within the United States are refusing to go to school because of bullying. Another statistic is that within American schools alone, there are an estimated 2.1 billion bullies and 2.7 billion victims (Dan Olewus, MBNBD). The numbers presented here are outrageous and although there are organizations to stop bullying, obviously there needs to be a new set of solutions. Any type of bullying presents problems to children, “Suicide, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trouble with the law, poor performance in school and work, and lack of involvement in socially accepted activities are some of the difficulties resulting from bullying (Austin, Reynolds, Barnes, Shirley). Of course, there is more than just a single type of bullying. Feeding ground for bullies can range anywhere from text-message or cyberbullying to physical bullying in schools. Also, bullies can begin to strike at a young age and could also be; teenage, middle-age, or even the elderly. Even though there are these many versions of problematic bullies, the largest bullying problems take place within the school setting: a place that is supposed to be safe for children rather than harmful. Although it seems impossible to completely get rid of bullying, these are a few suggested solutions; making the school informed on bullying issues, schools implementing rules on bullying, and having students positively use electronics to stop bullying.
Bullying is something that is not something new and is actually something that society continues to face. Over the years, bullying has been looked at as being so ordinary in schools that it is continuously overlooked as an emanate threat to students and has been lowered to a belief that bullying is a part of the developmental stage that most young children will experience then overcome (Allebeck, 2005, p. 129). Not everyone gets over the extreme hurt that can come as an effect from bullying, for both the bully and the victim.
