I Believe I’ll Make It
I believe that i will make the basketball team. I say this because i trained over the last year. Even though a lot of people have more experience than me, and some are even stronger. I believe that because of my hard work that i put toward my favorite sport, i will make the basketball team.
Last year moved from indiana, unknowing of what sport i would like to join, due to not playing many sports, other than football. When i thought about it football was the choice i wanted. So i worked out over the summer, and actually lost quite a bit of weight. I was close to three hundred pounds. But after cutting off soda, working out, and eating healthier made me lose quite a bit of weight. But later after I have joined queen creek, i found out that you had to be in football camp over the summer.

I didn’t know this, because I just moved.
I wasn't going to run miles and sleep in a tent for my whole summer in a tent. So I decided to move on from football, and decided to look toward a new sport that I was introduced from my step brother, basketball.
At the time i was cocky because my brother was saying how I was tall I was, and that I was good for not knowing how to play.. He brought up my hopes every time he cheered me on. When we played, i’ve been getting better. Enough to play in groups of people. But i was still cocky. I decided last year i would join the team. But when i went, i wasn’t ready at all.
When i got there, i was pumped ready to show what i learned over the summer. I wasn’t that bad then, but i was nowhere near the people who were training for this for years. With their strength and endurance, i quickly had little to no strength, and it was about 2/3rds in. only day one as well. So I left early, and it killed me. I said i would make the team. I was so tired. It still kills me today that i didn’t try and push through the pain and try my
best. After that i decided to try volleyball. I had my eye on it for a while. My english teacher Mr.Jenkins convinced me. He was also the head coach for volleyball. I began conditioning for it. I had never trained for a sport other than basketball, and that was just a few months ago. Everyday, we would train by running a mile a day. My side hurt like I was stabbed. Then i began working out for the first time. It wasn't pleasant at first. We then had tryouts. After that i was sore all over, almost falling over with every step. I made the team. I was so happy. We soon had practice, and if i thought that the conditioning was bad, well i had another thing coming. Practice was the same thing over and over again it felt like. When we went to games, they didn’t have a spot for me. Until the last five games. But those last five were like I elevated to a new level. I then got most improved for volleyball. I was on the same team that had a junior who was in the same boat as me. So that was one of my favorite moments. It was now summer vacation. A friend of mine helped me train for basketball. He was also my ride for volleyball. We started playing 1v1, 5v5. He also made me do a routine of a mile, leg day, basketball then sana. I couldn't breath through it all. I pushed through a lot of pain this past year. Now basketball tryouts are just in a week. So im going to try my best, push through it all to see where i'm at, and if i don’t make the team. I guess i'll try twice as hard for next year. Sincerely, Nathaniel fish
Football has been a big part of my life ever since I was a little kid. I almost always tried to play football when I could with my brothers if they weren’t busy messing around. During recess in grade school my class would try to start a football game and I would be the first in to be picked on a team. My first time being on a “football team” was in little league my third grade year and I’ve never missed a year yet now that I am a senior in highschool and I’m hoping to continue it in college. Football made the person who I am today, it changed me in many ways and affected how I am as a person.
It then started to get harder and each day was a different workout to help me and my teammates improve. I was at a point where all I could do was attend school, go to practice and go home. Each day I was beyond tired. At a point of time I felt like giving up and going back to my regular life, and regular schedule. As the coach started to notice how I felt, he pulled me to the side and started to question what was going on. I explained, but everything I said was not a good enough reason. My coach told me, “If this is what you really want you won’t give up, no matter how hard it may get you will overcome it.” That day I learned a valuable lesson, to never give up.
My 8th grade year around the month of February people were starting to recognize spring football was right around the corner. I was a middle school stud says most coaches I played bandit and sometimes safety full time. Tine seemed to fly faster and faster day by day the team was coming ! Spring had finally come and walking on the I was a pretty favorable upcoming freshman by coaches and players. The first couple of practices were great I never known so much went into high school football but I eventually found out. My knee was hurting a lot my 7th grade year because of ball that
Unfortunately though football had to come to an end. Having to hang my jersey and give up football before high school. Believe me it was neither my choice nor my second it was my parents’ design. My parents’ knew at the time that I love playing football, but they did not want me to get a concussion this I did not fully understand. Because not long after, sophomore year in high school I got my first concussion by played two-hand touch football. How it happened it was a weight lifting class and the class would play football and eventually two-hand touch exculpated to tackling.
My knee injury took a big toll on my preseason of my sophomore year going threw physical therapy instead of playing in the games . Baseball is a hobby of mine ,never played threw high school, but have always had love for
When you are faced with adversity or thrown some curve that life presents without this character building lesson you might feel weak and want to give up. Working as hard in practice as I did built character and my reputation with my coach and other teammates. That is what those practices taught us, it pushed us to our limit so we would be able to push through real life adversity in the future. Every person faces adversity, what separates people is how they deal with it. I believe that those countless hours in the summer have changed my mindset when facing a challenge. I have studied harder because of it, my grade average went from 92.5 freshman year to a 95 this year. I realized that something isn't worth your time unless you try your absolute hardest and that was my mindset this year. If I never played football I doubt my grades would be as good as they are right now. I believe that hard work definitely altered the way I approach situations and my
I would get pounded on by the bigger and stronger players during practice and was discouraged early on. I thought about quitting within the first couple of months. However, when my family saw that I was having a hard time, and we sat down and talked about it. Even though the doctor suggested that I should never play contact sports, they believed in my capabilities and told me that if I worked harder than anybody else, nothing the doctor said would matter. As my first year of football came to an end, my dad began teaching me how to exercise. We lifted weights and ran together until I got the hang of it, then continued exercising on my own. I devoted all of my energy into everything I did, knowing that I had to improve each day in order to compare to the other
I have throughout my whole life been playing sports. I still play basketball competitively and now it’s at the university level. Basketball though was not my first love when it came to playing sports. It has though become my true focus since junior high school. Coming from Canada everybody plays hockey. Its almost as if as soon as you learn to walk you learn how to skate. Whether it is at the recreation centre or at the shinny rink around the corner everyone plays. Eventually I abandoned hockey to play basketball which I have done so for the last twelve years of my life and hopefully a few more years into the future.
Ever since I was a little boy, about eight years old or so, I had an extreme passion for the sport of basketball. On weekends, I would wake up in the morning, eat a bowl of frosted flakes or cheerios, put on basketball shorts and then go in my driveway to shoot around. I would be out there for hours just shooting around or playing with some random kids that I would occasionally see walking around my neighborhood. This was satisfaction to me, but even better was playing on multiple public teams and not just playing in my driveway every day. In elementary school, I played in a recreational league, just like almost every other kid who tries out basketball when they were younger. This was fun and all but it was nothing too serious. There were never any practices, it was just one or two unorganized games per week. I never took
I believe if you stay in the gym and work as hard as you can you can make it anywhere in any sport if you wanted to. But the main one I am talking about is basketball because I am in the gym most of the week days except for the weekends and with all hard work on finishing at the rim working on my off hand and shooting I think I could be a good player. Plus, if you are not working hard you can tell because you will never get better because if you do not mess up you can tell you are not trying hard enough. But when game time comes around it should be easy for me to do all these things because I have been in the gym working on them. Plus, I believe in basketball and sports because I think they can get me out of where I am now because I am never
My journey on the basketball team – Joining anything comes with a struggle, such as fitting in or trying to be the best. Basketball is a prioritized sport in my family. I always knew that as soon as I hit junior high, it would be time to fulfill my family’s prophecy of joining a basketball team. I was not too thrilled with the thought at first. I decided to talk to some of my friends to get their view on it.
He shoots! He scores! Just listen to that crowd roar! Listen to that crowd cheer for the winning team. There is something about basketball that gets my heart racing from the grip of the ball to the swoosh the net makes when you make a shot.
When i got older, I started hooping on basketball goals and with people. Growing up, I was always small and short, so people didn’t want me on their team until they found out that I can dribble
I still do not love football as much as I like basketball. That is why I like to play football. The last sport I enjoy playing is
If you were to ask my friends what I love to do, my guess is that the majority of them would come up with this reply, "He loves to play sports". Sports are a big part of my life, and if I had to choose my favorite sport to play it would have to be basketball. I couldn't imagine going a week without being able to touch a basketball, and I thought I would never have to. But on one summer afternoon, that all changed when I broke my leg. It left me on crutches for two months, and not being able to play basketball all that summer. At first I thought it wouldn't be so bad, getting all the attention and sympathy from everyone. However, after one game I soon realized that I would do just about anything to get rid of those horrible crutches and get back on the court.
