How Running Changed My Life
Looking back on how much my life has changed throughout the years, I couldn't begin to imagine my life without running. I remember when I first started running in 7th grade and Coach McLeese was the head coach. Coach McLeese was the one who trained me to become a better runner, and helped define who I am today. Without Coach McLeese’s help in the beginning of my running career, I don’t think I would have made the choice to pursue running.
Over the years, running has made me considerably faster and stronger than I used to be before I began running. From my experiences, running is a great stress reliever and nothing feels better than going for a run when I'm feeling stressed. Running has also helped me meet many friends
I am now officially in my Senior year of Cross Country , and am close to the end of my season. My first race of this year though was a big accomplishment for me, because I hadn`t been able to run. When I ran that race though it made me just so happy I was able to finish it, I was`nt happy with the time, but there is always time for improvement. I was glad to be racing again and being apart of the team again. I believe that my injuries were a barrier in my way, but they did not stop my sports career.
The last time I did not run for consecutive days, was during Middle School. Running has been a very powerful tool for me, and the joy it brings is something I carry. As a person who has an unhealthy amount of anxiety in my life, running has been an outlet for me. Whenever I feel anxious or stressed out, I run. There are two ways running brings me relief; the first is it is an immediate distraction from whatever is bothering me. In addition, running also gives me a “runner's high” after I run. While this may seem unimaginable, it is actually very real because the pleasure of finishing a workout has few parallels. After I run, for the rest of the day, my mood is elevated.
I enjoy running but I am definitely not a runner. I’m the girl that’s loudly gasping for air after running just 1 lap around the track in gym class. So why did I decide to run cross-country? Honestly, I just wanted to get in shape. I wanted to feel like an athlete. I am always up for a challenge and this was definitely one. Running 5 miles a day became the new normal for me. It was agonizing. I was used to running 1 slow mile and nothing
Running has instilled in me a mental toughness that I didn’t even know existed. I feel like I have become a stronger, happier, and confident person when I started running. I accomplished things I didn't know I was capable
It was an exceptionally cold spring afternoon in Tennessee. My friend McKenzie and I decided to start training for the 5k Glow Run we would attempt to run in the near summer. Neither of us were close to being in shape, so we felt that a little practice wouldn’t hurt. In Tennessee the weather is very bipolar when the seasons shift from winter to spring. The weather could be 72 degrees one day, and snowing the next day. Little did we know, the day we chose to hang out was suppose to be below freezing with a wind chill advisory. We decided to still go for a run at the park because we didn’t want to make an excuse to not work out on our first day of training. We bundled up in the warmest and heaviest clothes we could find and headed to the park. Once we got to the empty
“Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it,” (Lou Holtz). Anyone is capable of doing anything they set their mind to as long as they are working towards that goal or aspiration. If you motivate yourself, you will see the positive outcome of your hard work and dedication. You have to remember to encourage yourself no matter if you fail or know you’ll succeed. Track and Field has been beyond meaningful to my life. Not only has it taught me many valuable lessons, but it also helped unearth potential I didn’t realize I had. Track and Field is my sport because challenging myself and my body
August 22, 2015, a day to be forever marked with blood, sweat, tears, but most importantly, triumph. That day was race day. The day when all my hours of grueling training would face the ultimate challenge. The day where I would be able to identify myself as a runner. There’s only one problem with that—I’m not a runner; I’m a tennis player.
My whole life, I always gyrated around sports, this athletic attribute carried all through high school. I spent my whole high school career running on the Track team. There I met my track coach Luis. I met him when I was a freshman, at that occasion I saw him as my coach and nothing more. Later on, I asked if I could work out with him after practice in the school’s weight room. My intention was to become faster and stronger. I wanted to achieve my goal of becoming the great athlete that I’ve been dreaming about ever since I was eight years old. I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I wanted to transform myself into a better version of myself. I wanted the Erik of today to be better than the Erik of yesterday. From then on, it was all history. He took me under his wing as a student, but as his
One thing that really bothers me is how much I changed. I used to play games all day, not focus on school, wouldn't get in serious trouble, and was very innocent compared to my present day self. There are cons and pros of my past self compared to how I am currently. I am more happy of how I am now then I am before. As time changes, so do I and I can not stop that. What’s done has already been done and can’t be changed so you always have to look towards the future and never the past. The past will not definite who you are today unless you let it. I would have never expect that I would be transferred to a continuation high school in my freshman year. It is a bad thing to many people, but I am thankful that I am sent to it because I will learn
.... For as long as I can remember, I’ve been an embarrassed closet bibliophobe. I fully realize the unflattering controversy of this admission, yet I cannot deny it has been an integral part of my present being and my most challenging source of my childhood existence. Without any rhyme or reason, the written word simply has never beckoned me or fought for my attention in terms of pleasure or relaxation. It has mysteriously always seemed a challenge, task or miserable chore to be completed in the most expedient way possible.
While Jesse was in elementary school, Charles Riley, a track field coach, noticed how fast he ran and high he jumped and offered to coach him. He wanted to meet young Jesse so he would be able to mold him into a good high school track and field and even an Olympic athlete. This coach recommended Jesse to do more running than what he was doing in gym class. He also suggested to run 90 minutes a day after school, but Jesse could not run after school because he was busy working in the fields. So, instead of running after school every day, he decided to run before school. During practice, Coach Riley, would critique Jesse’s run for him to improve his form, keeping his knees and head high and his back straight. Jesse was not used to a white-American coach working with him to achieve a goal. Coach Riley would push him and this would empower Jesse to do his best.
When the power to strive for my best began to break down, and I was settling for mediocre accomplishments, running gave me the strength and perseverance to realize I could do anything, no matter how hard it was. When my
In today's world there are many things that can take up a person’s time, however, the thing that takes up the most of my time is running. Running has been a huge part of my life since I was ten years old. The reason why running captivates me is that I care about my personal performance in every race. From the start, it has taught me a great deal about life either from something my coaches and teammates have said or from my own comparisons to life. Running has even shown me some different perspectives on the gospel.
Adding exercises into one’s daily routines can change their whole lifestyle. Many people look at exercise as being something just for people who want to lose weight or to become muscle bound, but there are a great deal of benefits that can be received from exercising regularly. There are several ways in which I have benefited in my life from exercising regularly, besides just making me bigger and stronger. It has made me become more organized, helped me make better decisions, and motivated me to take on new challenges in life.
