Recommended: Crime and its Effects
Don’t do anything you'll regret, although it felt stupendous in the moment there was a generous amount of consequences. Not just any consequence, but a consequence that will be with me for almost all of my life. It’ll be utterly hard for me to get a good job, vote, or even own a gun. While the crime was happening there was a lot of happiness. You know. Making your friends happy, getting free clothes, and having that rush of adrenaline. While the crime ended, there was a lot of disappointment. It was one of those life-changing moments.
It was in the summer of 2015. I had worked at the athletic store, Nike. Nike was one of the stores that everyone knew about, no matter where you were in the world, you knew about Nike. I was an employee at Nike for almost 3 years, when I made the biggest mistake of my life. I was working up at the cash register, I worked up at the register for quite some time now so I was very familiar with the buttons and everything. My friend, Alexandra, walked in and I greeted her with a big smile and a “Hey!”. She, of course, said, “Hey!”, back. I then left the register only because we were not busy at all and there were three other cashiers working. I walked over to where my

friend Alex was shopping and we talked, she jokingly said “Hey, could you give me a discount on these items?”, while laughing. I didn’t think much of it and I said, “I don’t see why not…”. We then walked over to have her check out, and I went behind the cash register to check her out. After I was done ringing Alex up, I accidentally hit void transaction. A receipt then printed out with all of the voided items and I gave it to her, and then Alex said her thanks and walked out with maybe three-hundred dollars of free clothes. At that moment, I realized that I could do this with other people since it doesn’t look suspicious with the receipt being printed out. I did the whole, voiding transactions, with ten more people. Ten more people received items for free. A couple months later, it was a Saturday I'll never forget, I was restocking the athletic shirts and about ten minutes in my boss, Jim, called me in for a break. Breaks usually weren't given until four hours of doing floor stock. So when Jim called me in, I thought it was kinda strange. Once I got back there, I did what I would normally do on my breaks. I put my headset and name tag on the gray plastic tall table. I went over to my blue cubed locker, and pulled out my wallet, then I pulled out a one dollar bill. I walked over to the vending machine that had so many choices, but with one dollar you can only get so much. I limited my choices and decided to go with the mini sausage bits. You really can’t eat them without a drink, so I then made my way over to the drink vending machine and chose a coca-cola. I then went with my sausage bits and coke and sat down. About ten minutes into my delicious meal, my boss, Jim, called me into the manager's office. I was confused, but nothing hit me as to why I was going back there. I walked through the big wooden door and took a seat. All of my managers were back there with me, but yet none of them said a word to me. There was a guy who had a very calming voice on the phone, he was put on speaker. As soon as I started talking to him I found out who he was, the loss prevention guy. We had a very settle conversation and it lasted about two hours. The whole conversation was about how I stole from Nike and gave away discounts to people who didn’t have the right to get one. The end of the conversation was quite upsetting, there was a sheriff waiting for me to be done with the phone call. I then talked to the bulky tall sheriff, and he really just said that I was going to have to go to court and the worst that can happen was that I was going to be sent to prison for five years with a $3000.00 fine. The sheriff mentioned that if I was 18, he would have arrested me and read my rights, without any questions asked. This wasn’t really the news I wanted to hear. My managers and the sheriff then escorted me out of Nike, in front of the whole Nike crew and all the customers. I couldn’t stop crying, I thought it was the end of the world, but it wasn't. About two months later, I received a letter in the mail from Greene County Juvenile Court. I was shaking because I had no idea what this letter said. I then opened it, the letter said that I have a court date in a week. I prepared and made sure I knew why I did everything, I practiced what I was going to say to the judge and it calmed my nerves down. The day came faster than I thought it was going to, court day, the scariest day so far. I went in and waited for the judge, I then sat down and told the judge everything. It wasn’t as bad as I thought, other than the thought that I could be going to jail. I went through about six court trials, to come down to the final one.
The night before, I went over everything again and again until it was almost perfect. The final court day, I wore a long black romper with some black tall heels. I woke up, ate a nice breakfast, and then got into my mother’s car. It felt like such a short time that I was in the car. I went inside to the courtroom and waited again for the judge. The trial lasted about ten minutes, it was short and sweet. I got off with 300 hours of community service, restitution of $3000 dollars, and probation for one year. This felt like the luckiest I've ever been, and it was such a relief. It was relieving knowing that I was going home to my family, that I'll be home for holidays, and that I’ll be able to go to
college. To this day, I'm still paying off my restitution and I'm still on probation. It was a mistake that I'll be sure to never make again. I’ll never do anything that could put me in jail or prison. It was a horrible mistake, and I learned from it so much. If you’re ever thinking of doing something, think of what is going to be the consequence if you get caught, and you usually always do.
There, my careless decision to shoplift at Sephora could have cost someone their job. By me making this mindless decision it affected everyone around me and Sephora, and that is not what I wanted and its not fair for others. This action has made me think more clearly of the people I should surround myself around and think about the people in my life that I call my “ friends”. I have learned an important lesson from this mistake, it was a great learning experience for me to realize what people I should surround myself around in my life because I know I am not that type of person, I don't do this stuff I was raised much better then this. There are many reasons why the thought of shoplifting would never come into my head ever again. The main reason why I would never do such a thing again is because of the disappointment I see in my families face when I look at them. I don't like that look on their face when I see them, it doesn't make me feel good about my
I had just graduated high school and I wasn’t too interested in going to college. My plan was to enlist into the armed forces after high school, but I took things slow and decided I wanted to make a few bucks first. I had applied for Wal-Mart in late May and very much wanted the job. I called frequently to check on the status of my application and eventually they called me in for an interview. The interview itself took around three hours and I didn’t go home until about two in the morning. On June 10th, I got a call from Wal-Mart asking if there was any way possible I could go in the next day for training; I had been hired at Wal-Mart. Training was a fun experience with very fun and amazing people. I got paid 9.50 an hour, while I was in training as an overnight stocker; though my training took place in the day time. I thought that this was going to be and easy job. I have never been so wrong in my life.
I am gonna tell y’all about the day I saw my rapist’s name plastered on the front page of every newspaper in the country. November 27 started the same as any other day for me. I woke up to the sound of my neighbor vacuuming. Tired and irritated, I pulled the covers back over my head and pushed my ears into my pillow only to wake up to my alarm sounding five minutes later. It was 6AM time to start getting ready for work. I worked as a receptionist for a law firm, I was the only women who worked there. I turned on the radio and Eruption by Van Halen blasted over the radio. While I swayed to the beat I picked out a pair of pumps, a blouse and a skirt and laid it out on my bed. I walked into the tiny bathroom in my tiny apartment and splashed some cold water on my face. When I looked in the mirror, I could see the evidence of yet another sleepless night through the dark bags under my bright blue eyes. I pulled my long curly brown hair back into a tight pony tail. As I got dressed the dread of yet another long day of work washed over me. I left the
Nike, goddess of accomplishments and the child of Pallas, the Titan, is known for accomplishing victories and her being involved in the Titan War. Not only is she the goddess of accomplishment she is also the goddess of triumphs, speed, strength, and military. Many Greeks held victory celebrations, and held Nike in high regard. The Greeks were also very competitive. That meant that she was very popular in the fifth century (Cartwright). Even with her being so popular there are no myths about her. She is an older goddess and was born before the Olympians (Nike: In Greek Myth). Her main symbol is a wreath of victory (Cartwright) (Nike, Goddess of Victory). Victory is a very close word to her Roman name which is Victoria (Nike). Also this goddess looks very different from other gods and goddess.
All the rage that had been building up inside of me since the end of the trial boiled over and I grabbed the young boy, knocking the girl over. He fought with all he had, causing me to lose my hold on him. He fell to the ground, but was up in a flash and began to lead his sister away from me. I couldn’t let that happen so I grabbed the little punk by the back of the shirt, and pushed him to the ground. Then, with a satisfying crunch, I stepped on his arm and broke it, causing him to
“Find Your Greatness” Advertisements really are a large part of our everyday lives. We see them everywhere. Regardless of whether it is a commercial on TV, huge letters on a billboard or a bus, adverts on the radio, or even slogans on a friend’s clothing, we are constantly bombarded with them. They are designed to attract a certain crowd by grabbing their interest and pulling them in. A couple years ago, Nike’s big campaign was the “Find Your Greatness” campaign.
... made the story go in my favor when I should have called earlier to tell them that I would arrive late because of what happened. Instead, I waited for them to call me on my way up. All of the effort I had put into the past three months at work are now diminished by my one ignorant action of not calling and lying when I arrived. I could have simplified the situation by just calling in when I knew I would be late and come clean up front, instead, I blew the whole situation out of proportion and tried to make myself seem like a victim. I have lost the trust of my peers and superiors that were involved.
At a turning point in my life I became very outspoken, I’ve seen more doing my job and in life that people only see in movies. Those experiences and the abuse haunt me. I made the choice, and criminal law was all I knew, I was good at my job and I provided well, for my girls. Now they provide for me. After all, each of us do what we must for reasons many others will never understand, nor is it anyone’s business to judge.
Life will get easier is what you keep telling yourself over and over as your sitting in your jail cell. You were so bold to wear a sweatshirt that stated, “I didn’t do it.” Your story is a story that I will never forget to this day because of the way it opened up my eyes to see the real system of our world. Sitting in class hearing a story about a man that I did not know existed, I was left with in awe of the idea that something like that happens. Because of your persistence and strength, your name and story will never be forgotten. Many people go through “dangerous journeys” like the character Christian did, and how he remained hopeful to God’s master plan. Along with Christian, a man who was in jail because of the unlawful government, Boethius,
...o our red van not saying a word to me. On the drive home she gave me my punishment. The punishment was that I was to be grounded for an entire month, and reap the consequences with the law. I ended up sitting in my house for the first month of summer and losing two-hundred and eighty dollars, which was my fine for stealing.
Later, after lunch, I thought the day would get better, but with my luck it got worse. It was the last period and we were assigned a project that was due at the end of class. We also were paired into groups and lucky for me, I didn’t know anyone. During the course of the class my group attempted to stay focus, but thanks to the luck of the draw we messed around and nearly finished the project. “Shot,” I whispered, with all are brain power we managed to finish, but unfortunately my email couldn’t send the email to the teacher. We all started to panick, and worst of all the blame was being put on me. My self esteem was shattered, I truly felt like an outsider and worst of all
Sentence was passed and in that moment my whole life completely changed. In the background, you could hear the people chant, “Justice has finally been served!” They don’t know me I thought. Everybody makes mistakes, right? But, where was my second chance in life. My luck, the death penalty became legal again and eagerly waiting for me to become its newest member. My palms grew sweaty as always when I grew nervous and scared. There was nothing I could do. These people wanted me to pay for what I put them through.
These shoes have walked almost 1000 miles. Sounds almost impossible to say that, but it is true.
That day I came home with a giant smile on face, and proudly gave my father the detention slip. I told him the story and he looked at me with such pride. Not because of the detention but because I stood up for my self. If i never stood up for myself, I would not be who I am today. I learned how to defend myself physically and figuratively. Those words that, the girl said, they tore me down. Then I decided that they wouldn’t any longer. I decided that those people and what they said were wrong. What they said only made me stronger.
I interviewed my husband's younger brother, Andy. Andy is 10 years old and attends a private catholic school. Soon after Andy learned how to walk his parents started enrolling him in sports, and he loves them. Now at 10 years old his motor development has increased and he has more endurance. This year he was enrolled in baseball, soccer, cross country, and basketball. Andys life revolves around sports and his answers to the questions definitely brought that into light. He thinks it’s cool to be an athlete, wants to be a professional baseball player when he grows up, wants to meet Eric Hosmer, and his favorite video game is MLB the show (any year).
