Growing up in America people were faced with many struggles. When I was young a regular family household was a man and woman and as I grew up the culture changed; that allowed interracial marriages and same sex marriages. Also, growing up in America I learned at a young age that your appearance meant a lot about who you were and how you looked is how people perceived you. The biggest change that I have witnessed is technology. For example, when I was in grade school test, homework and everything else was so simple being completed using just a pencil and piece of paper. Now my children are in grade school it has become more high tech because they don’t have to look to books for answers. They can just look it up by using modern technology. had no cares in world. I was severely "blinded" by what was going on right outside my own door. It was not until I was in middle school; that I had a huge wake up call. That my clothes that I thought were cool and my shoes that my mother tried so hard to work for; was no longer in style. That my appearance by others opinions defined me. In middle school living in America was to me about trying to fit in and be part of something. That I would have to do a little more to be accepted. It was not until my friend who was injured in a horrible car accident; did I realize that what others thought did not define me. But, that I would need to dress a little better and talk more sophisticated to get noticed. As I grew up I realized that when you present yourself to somebody; that the way that you look says a lot about who you are. So now when I present myself I know to dress more sophisticated and talk more sophisticated so that people can have a better representation of myself. However it does not define who I am I still want to be presentable. "A first impression can always be a last impression". My grandmother use to tell me that back in her day whites were suppose to be with whites and blacks are suppose to be with blacks and so on.
As I grew older I learned that I lived in a very diverse world. That there are many different cultures that live in the United States; even though we may look different we might still share the same likes and dislikes. That having a interracial relationship was just not something that was done. Things have changed that now there are many interracial couples, myself included living in America and living life. Along with the change of accepting interracial relationships; we are now have become more acceptable to same sex marriages. Growing up in American it was a struggle for others to accept the person that I was in love with because he was Mexican and I am Caucasian. It took a while for culture to change and realize that it was okay to have an interracial relationship and families. I have experienced that living in America gives me the freedom to be who I want to be and to be with who I want to be with. As this was not the case before, but things have changed and I am very grateful for
that. When I was younger and in grade school all of my homework, test and assignments were done by using a simple piece of paper and pencil. Cursive and proper handwriting was a very important skill to learn. When we had to find out about planets, countries, and how things work; we had to read book from the library. Technology has changed so much that my children are using computer to take test, complete assignment, study and research topics for papers that are due. They are also incorporating tablets, laptops, computers and games to help my child learn. When I was younger I always played outside, climbed trees, walked through the creek, went fishing, played with friends. Everyone seemed to know everybody and life as a child was to explore the world around me. In todays society children stay inside playing on game systems, tablets and phones. Children are not exposed to the world as much ; as when I was a child because of dangers around. Growing up in America life as I knew it has changed. What once was not acceptable is now acceptable. For instance same sex marriage and interracial relationships. Like my own people now accept my family. I have learned growing up in America "the first impression is the last impression". That the way I dress represents who I am and the way that people perceive me to be. So fashion is a very important aspect in todays society.Technology is a very important part of our life because, it is a very important part of how our children are being taught. I feel that growing up in America has had its trails but, is moving in the right direction.
There really is not one uniform way of life in America. But if you look back on the past, you can definitely see some similarities. With the article, “What Is an American”, it explains what early life may have been for these new residents. “They receive ample awards for their labors ; these accumulated rewards produce them lands.” So early life here was simple and strived on working. But as the years progressed so did the people. By the nineteen-hundreds, Franklin D, Roosevelt had described life here with ease, using terms like, “ all bound together by hope of a common future.” He goes on to describe the ever-changing life with a boast about, “unity in language and speech”. Even today common life here is brought by these factors of similarities. We all share the love and pride we have for this place. Across the many years and generations, the earliest groups of Americans have not been willing to change their ways. Once a person had their mind set on one particular idea, it was almost impossible to convince them to see a different point of view. This became a larger issue while over time, more unique personalities, ideas, and different ways of thinking made their own way into American daily life. This refusal to change has adapted over the decades and the many people have come to realize that change can be a great thing.
After World War II, Americans experienced a time of rapid social change. American soldiers were discharged and returned home from the battlefields, hoping to find work and to get on with their lives. Marriage rate increased dramatically after the war. North American population experienced what is known as the “Baby boom” – an 18-year period of rapid population growth from 1946 to 1964. During this period, many children were born than in the same period before or after. During the post war years, the United States embarked on one of its greatest periods of economic expansion. Many Americans had enjoyed economic prosperity. However, the United States has changed since 1950. American society today is different from our grandparents’ generation. The rising divorce rates, population growth in the suburbs, the lives of women and mothers working outside the home marked the tremendous social changes in American society today.

The culture in America has changed dramatically since the 1970s. As time goes on different events occur that will change the American culture forever. If people never stand up for what they believe in, the American culture may have never changed. Woman were not treated with the same respect in the 1970 's like they are treated today. Just before the 70s, the Civil Rights Movement supporters stood up and made history. The country was in the Vietnam War until the middle of the decade. There are great examples of the culture differences in the film The Longest Yard in 1974 compared to the remake in 2005. The United States of America 's culture is better today because of all the history that Americans made.
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.

From a very young age I knew that I was going to move out of my hometown Guadalajara, Jalisco for the rest of my life, after all, my parents had given me a very unique opportunity, a U.S. nationality. Change happens all of the time in our ever advancing society. Many changes have occurred from 1930 to 2009. Changes like these can be very affective in a positive or negative way and I, as a young Alabamian experience changes every day. Moral upbringings have become unimportant and have caused a drop in society. Education of children now is very important and necessary to help them to succeed. The crime rate has risen in small towns causing more uproar in usually quiet towns. These changes are not very drastic but they are important factors in our daily life and can help or hinder our society.
Growing up I experience a lot just by observing my surroundings. As I get older I get to understand more and more what everything means. I’ll see men and woman together which is label as right and I’ll also see woman and woman or men and men together which is label as wrong. Looking at all scenarios I come to realize that no matter who was with who they all seem happy and they looked passionate about each other. So I come to believe that it doesn’t matter who you are with love is love. And I believe this because no love is wrong or right but all love is real, true and free and therefore no labels, boundaries or restriction should form around it. I support my belief with that we were made equally and the lord our God states that we should love one another.
I come from a different culture, so I have had lots of experience with diversity. Coming from a different culture has made me more aware of different cultures, ethnicities, socio-economic status, disabilities, and sexual orientation. I have realized that depending on what culture one is from can determine what path they will take when seeking medical treatment due to their values and beliefs. An example would be a Jehovah’s witness declining a blood transfusion because they do not believe in blood transfusions. The Muslim culture does not eat pork because it is against their religion. Depending on what culture someone is from can very, so we all need to become culturally aware and understand why someone in our eyes is not doing the right thing.
