I have grown up in a Christian school where I am required to attend Bible class daily, go to chapel weekly, and complete service hours to graduate. However, just because my school has these requirements does not necessarily mean that everyone is a practicing Christian. There is a common misconception that people that grew up in a Christian schools exert Christian qualities. Some of the stories I hear from people, both in and out of class, make me ashamed to be associated with my grade. It equips us to be agents of the kingdom, models of the kingdom in our own lives and communities, witnesses to the kingdom wherever we go in the world.” (pg.143) When we ‘put on the full armor of God’ we not only protect ourselves from this fallen world but we are also able to project God’s glory to all those who we encounter.

Sneaking religion into public school is becoming an uncomfortable dispute for students. Last year at my public high school we had a couple encounters with this dilemma. A Christian group called young life was to make an appearance. There were flyers around the halls advertising free pizza and ice cream at lunch time if we came to the meeting. Representatives came the lunch period the day before to walk around and promote the meeting. I did not know anything about the group, but there was free pizza so of course I went with a couple of friends. They put on a small video presentation about the group. Growing up in a traditional catholic family I attended catholic school and church just like everyone else in my family. Every Sunday and Tuesday growing up I spent time at church. Going to church taught all about religion and forgiveness. I learned from the bible that god knows we are all sinners and that if we ask for forgiveness he forgives us. I was told that to church is a safe place for someone to go if they need help and that everyone has their arms open to people in need. The catholic religion says that god loves all his children even when they sin.
I’ve been very interested in attending Brebeuf Jesuit for about a year now. I was also eager to shadow the school and see my possible feature. When i shadowed Brebeuf I really loved how the scheduling worked and how friendly everyone was to make me feel welcomed, Including the school times. Brebeuf Jesuit high school is a good fit for me because my faith, my academic experience, and my extracurricular interests.
Christian colleges and universities offer students places where they can share their values and practice their faith. These religious-based schools often provide nondenominational benefits as well as spiritual advantages for practicing Christians in a world that often disregards and disparages applying religious principles to life.
In Glen Shultz’s (2003) book Kingdom Education: God’s Plan for Educating Future Generations he addresses the importance of education in coordination with the family and church in developing and training future generations within a biblical worldview. He describes moral decline, increased crime rates, the disintegration of the family and the church’s inability to be the salt of the earth as examples of the increased secularization because of the removal of God and His word from our schools. The author’s answer for these dilemmas is biblical principles that are consistently taught in the home, church and school. Shultz (2003) compared kingdom education to the three legs of a milk stool “on which an individual can safely rest, regardless of the roughness of the ground (Shultz, 2003, p. 12). Kingdom education is defined through the lens of the kingdom of God where God reigns and is active in all areas in and around our lives. The focus of kingdom education is on biblical principles and is the incorporation of these principles into a child’s home, church and schooling. The purpose of kingdom education is twofold, the acceptance of Christ as a personal savior and the development of the mind for God’s use and glory. The three foundations of home, church and school are discussed in regards to the role each has in relation to kingdom education.

Every Sunday. Stares and disappointment. I sat with my grandmother at this big church. People would stare when they realized I didn't know the prayers or songs. I was trying to learn more about religion why did I feel so scared? Am I going to find where I belong? Will I have enough time? These are questions I sometimes have to ask myself.
