Personal Narrative - First Football Coach
One December morning, right before Christmas break, I was talking with a friend when our football coach came over to talk to us. I really respected and admired my coach and we always got along very well. My coach told us he was leaving Melbourne Central High School to go work in California. I had no idea what to say. I was in utter disbelief I was barely able to mutter a simple "Good Luck". One of my goals for the upcoming year was to have a good football season, just for my coach, because I really felt he deserved it. Most days I would have lunch with the coach where we would talk not only about football but also life and current events. When he left, I lost not only a coach but a friend and mentor.
She became intimately involved with John Proctor in an illegal love affair while employed as a servant girl in the family home of John and his wife Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail was willing to go to great measures to carry on her very intense relationship with Mr. Proctor. Once John Proctor informs Abigail that he no longer wants to be in a relationship with her, she becomes desperate. Abigail insisted that John Proctor still loved her, and I quote “ You loved me John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet.” As a means of self-preservation she was willing to sacrifice others, as well as falsely accusing many. Abigail was the leader of the girls who blamed witchcraft for their behavior.
In conclusion Abigail is the problem in the play The Crucible and I believe that if she wasn’t in it they wouldn’t have had half the problems they did. She caused almost every single bad thing that happened in the play. She is a terrible, mean, rotten person who I believe should have
Entering my final season of AAU basketball I knew I had set myself up for a roller coaster of emotions, whether it was from the night of my first practice, the weekend of my first tournament, or my first time on the road with my new team. This was because a lot was on the line this season, and I strived to make this season my best, and most enjoyable. This is mostly because this was the final year getting the opportunity to put on my red and black jersey every tournament. It was my last season traveling around the country with my teammates every weekend with one goal, to win, and it was my last season to improve my skills all around, in an attempt to further my basketball career into college. During the first few practices I was nervous for how the season would go because I noticed my coach was a lot harder on me than he was to my teammates and I did not know how to take that at first.I was not used to to his coaching style of being loud, in your face, and tough, or his emphasis on "perfection" because on my past teams I was used to being the best person on the team, and my coach rarely had negative criticism for me, so I took his intense coaching style terribly.
Ashton Schultz Mrs. Schmidt EN 102 25 January 2018 My Coach, the Bully Playing volleyball had been my passion and a source of joy for me. I began playing in third grade, honed in my talent playing with friends and teammates in year-round competitive leagues. I had dreams of earning a spot on the varsity team as a high school freshman. Going into high school, I was an athlete with high confidence but after my freshman year I started to lose interest and began to dread practice.
I loved everything about the sport, knew everything about the sport, and simply wanted to be physically involved with the sport. I signed up for my local football organization and greatly anticipated the start of the season. My first season our team finished undefeated, winning each game with ease. I played offensive line and enjoyed every play, finally being a part of the sport I loved. My coach at the time admired my hard work and dedication, repeatedly telling my fellow teammates that we should all aspire to have a work ethic such as my own. At the end of the season, my coach suggested I practice to become a quarterback. A quarterback is usually one of the skinniest players on the team, a trait I certainly didn't have. If I were to be a quarterback, I would have to lose at least thirty pounds and practice almost every day until the next season. As crazy as the suggestion seemed to me at the time, I gladly accepted the challenge and almost instantly began to work to become the best quarterback I could
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school. Even though this was illegal I continued to go ahead and accept the offer. My first year of high school was so exciting that it went by in the blink of an eye. Sophomore year came and the clock ticked closer and closer to when everything would change. I started in varsity as a corner back but soon would have big shoes to fill as the team’s quarterback. Not only did this require skill and hard work but the ability and qualities of a leader as well. Ultimately, playing this position helped me acquire traits that would soon be necessary for success. That year was tough for us because the majority of the team consisted of inexperienced players, however the coaches knew I would be the one to lead the
Abigail Williams is motivated by the lustful desires and jealousy towards John Proctor. “You love me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet! John, pitty me, pitty me!” (150)! Abigail says this becase she wants John Proctor to want the same lustful desires that she wants with him. Abigail is wanting John to leave his wife Elizabet Proctor and his two sons because she wants to be the wife of John . She becomes manipulative to do this very thing. Abigail plots and schemes a plan ,but it does not work they way she expected it to. She becomes so overly jealous that
In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, Abigail Williams is one of the most influential people in this play. Even though she is a very underrated character, the power she has over everyone is tremendous. She deceived everyone to believe that there’s a large amount of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts. So once things started to get out of hand, she had no other choice but to just go with it. You see, Abigail’s a very good liar, so when people got in the way of what she wanted, they got accused immediately. Though Abigail only wanted one thing from the beginning and that was John Proctor. Because of her lying, she had thrown herself into a big mess by her lying, no remorse, and her selfishness desires.
Abigail Williams was one of the main characters of the play and movie, the Crucible. Abigail is one of the main reasons the Salem Witch Trials were a huge thing in 1692. She was the first one to all of a sudden start acting strange, because she had supposable saw the devil, and witnessed others with the devil. All of Salem were strictly ordered to worship god, and to know all commendments of the bible. So worshipping or even being seen with the devil was considered a crime in Salem. All were to be hanged if they broke the rules, and not confessing to their wrong doings. Abigail was a cold hearted teenage girl and would lie through her teeth to save her own self. She stated that she saw a lot of people with the devil which never were. Abigail also had an afair with a married man named John Proctor. John Proctor was hanged at the end along with his wife because of Abigail Williams.
With the fact that Abigail’s behavior is so heavily motivated by her obsession with John Proctor, she made the choice to have an affair. She first started to be their maid for the Proctor’s. Elizabeth had kicked her off to the streets when she had “thought” her husband had turned from her. Abigail is yearning to be with John Proctor, since after the affair. “John- I was waitin’ for you every night” (Miller 1139). Abigail believes John still loves her because he once used to have feelings for her when his wife, Elizabeth, was immensely sick.
In the play “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, I mostly agree with the statement Winona Ryder makes about the character Abigail Williams. Toward the end of the play, Abigail seems like she believes the lies she’s feeding everyone, even though she’s aware of her deceit. In Hyther’s interpretation of the drama, there is a scene where Abigail tells John Proctor, “ I only wanted you John. I didn’t mean this for you.” She knows that what she’s doing is killing people because she’s such a convincing liar, and she had a plan for who would be hanged and who wouldn’t. For this reason, many readers would perceive Abigail as the villain of the of the play. I somewhat agree with Ryder’s thought that Abigail was not a villain. In Act III, page 1207, Danforth
...h school I wasn’t a great player. Re-involvement came fairly quick for me because a short year later, this year as a matter of fact, I was asked to be a coach for a local high school team. I was honored by the offer and of coarse I took the opportunity. The fact that my father was the head coach probably had something to do with it, but I was just ecstatic to be back on the football field again, even though I wasn’t the one playing. With this coaching position I’ve experienced a lot of new relationships. From meeting a whole new group of players to other coaches it’s been a learning experience and I’ve already built new friendships that I know will last a long time. But the most important relationship I believe I have built because of this experience is a better relationship with my father. In the past we have had our differences but because of football we’ve been closer than I think we’ve ever been before. Football has proven to me to be worth while. It has taught me dedication, determination, teamwork among others. Football has given me an identity of being a part of team and friendships I will have for a lifetime, especially with the person that means the most to me… my father.
The government was not involved in education for 250 years. Before, it was all supported by various community and religious organizations (Hayes 3). Horace Mann, known as the “father of common schools,” pushed for federal educational support (Hayes 4). With the help of Mann, Congress decided that it was the schools’ fault that poor children were unable to succeed in society and they discovered the presence of racial and income segregation in standardized test scores and achievement rates (Hayes 4). It was this idea that led to the birth of No Child Left Behind and a so-called “educational war on poverty” (Hayes 5). Today, due to the creation of NCLB, schools are mainly funded and supported by state governments (Hayes 4). Due to government interference in education being such a new concept, the system has run into several issues, especially related to communication between politicians and the educators themselves. Lack of communication and common ground on large issues has led to ideas, like those found in No Child Left Behind, that sound good in concept, but fail in practice (Gerson). This can largely be blamed on the government’s business viewpoint. Incentives and threats of punishment work in the business world where profit is at stake, but in education there is much more involved. For example, focus on particular results and standards, the equivalent of assessment scores, are important to a company making a living, but classrooms also need to aim for skills, character, and experiences (Ravitch 102). This gap in communication between the law and the students the law is affecting is just one example of how the government’s new involvement in education led to the failure of No Child Left
My internship spends as a football coach has really been an eye-opener for me; especially sacrificing at least 15 hours per week of commitment. Being a football coach showed me that you need to be at nearly every practice, rain or shine, sick or healthy, job or no job. The biggest thing as a high school coach and teaching as well estimate between 30-35 hours a week. For college, as a full-time coach, think somewhere between 60-80 hours a week. I chose this lifestyle because I wanted to work in a field which I’ll love to make progression in. Moreover, coaching sports period gives me thrill to help another student-athlete excel at another level. This internship being an assistant football coach was an offer to help out as an unpaid assistant
