I never knew what to expect when I was going to watch the games. Would there be goals? Would there be controversy? Would the team I wanted to win succeed? Would it be a close game fought down to the wire? I guess that’s why I love this time every four years. The anticipation of glory, the hope of victory, the unity that captures the world, the pride, the joy, and the agony all are a large part of the World Cup, and they were all a part of my summer. I remember watching the first game, I was in the living room of my wife’s family house. I watched as the ball dropped and I knew it was going to be a memorable month of soccer. Two, three, and sometimes four games a day throughout the first stages, and I knew I would be travelling during the cup. At a pub in Florence I watched as the Netherlands won, Italy suffered a massive let down, and the United States lost to Germany, but advanced. In a trailer in Avila Beach I watch five or six games surrounded by family, on …show more content…
One place, in particular, was a favorite of my watching. It was in Florence, Italy. On our first day there, we happened to walk by as a game was starting with the Netherlands. We watched that game there with a bunch of fans of the Netherlands. We then returned the next night to watch as Italy played Uruguay, and the next night as the U.S. played Germany. Throughout those games it did not matter who you rooted for, we were all participants in the global spectacle. I felt myself getting bitter when Luis Suarez bit an Italian player and no penalty was called, amidst the yelling and screaming at Suarez, and the ref, though I never felt threatened. At that same place we watched the U.S. vs Germany and in a room full of Americans there was one Germany fan cheering for his country and no one said a mean word or threatened him in any way. We were all participants in the
Going to a Carolina Panthers football game and it was great! I used sight, hearing, smelling, feeling, and tasting when I went. Out of all the NFL games I have been to, this was by far my favorite. There was so much to do when I went there.
On February 28, 2005, I experienced one of the most exciting events that anyone could ever experience – winning a State Championship. The day my soccer team made history is a day I’ll never forget. However it is not just that day we won the title, but the whole experience of the preceding season that got us there. From start to finish, my team’s 2004-2005 season taught me that the platitude is true. You can do anything you set your mind to.
Borrowing some of the greatest aspects of American culture, football has truly become a spectacle not only in the United States but also around the world. This level of entertainment is not only reserved for the NFL: college football, and high school football also provide enormous value to fans. Although fans of American football cannot have enough of the sport, they are more docile compared to football fans. I admire the enthusiasm of the fans by having pre-game tailgate to rile themselves up for the upcoming game, but for me that’s as far as it goes. American football fans do not bring the same enthusiasm during the game as football
Tensions form between friends, families, and countries due to these passions for a certain club. Players on the other hand are usually seen congratulating other players, especially if it’s a team that they used to play for. The game for them is a community and even at the peak of competition, there is respect for each other and the skills that they bring to the game. These players can also join together to bring a positive influence outside of the game. Huge names in soccer such as Lionel Messi and Louis Suarez give large sums of money to organizations that help educate kids in underprivileged countries and fight childhood cancer.
The results make it appear that the people in charge of soccer in this country, and especially those who have been given the responsibility to report on it have no depth of knowledge of the history of soccer in this country. That is understandable when the sport's Hall of Fame has been shuttered and shunted into an obscure warehouse in North Carolina. The federation is the guardian of its past, and it seems to h...
My first practice was scary -(how i felt) because I didn't know anyone there, but that was the day I met my new coach and teammates. The first few practices were exciting because I got to learn how to play the game including the rules and how to keep score. I also learned what to do and not to do during a game. That season is when i first realized i was a good soccer player and a big help to my team. My team and I didn’t do very well but throughout the seasons we
In what was once a country called Yugoslavia, soccer was played with more physical action with less of a desire for fair play than anywhere else. Its fans were so obsessive, and no Yugoslav group was more thuggish than Red Star Belgrade. Garrison talks about the beginning of Hooliganism and how it declined because of globalization. Throughout the chapter, Alan Garrison talks about Hooliganism and the interesting stories that came with it.
Arena to have me start playing hockey for the first time, and I was ecstatic!
The way the game has evolved over the years also intrigues audiences to gather around to watch. The sports industry today has become a great part of entertainment in the world. Because football is a very large portion of the sports industry, it is very important to many people. Large groups of people dedicate their entire lives to the game of football, and without it, the world would be a completely different place. Sources New World Encyclopedia 1991
We got lunch at one of the food stands and ate at a table we found open which was hard to do since so many people where already inside the stadium already. Once we ate lunch it was about 2:00pm so we decided we should find our seats our seats where behind one of the goal posts. As we were walking to our seats the Packers where warming up it was crazy to think that I was in the same Stadium as the Packers. The stadium had a big screen to show close up of the game so we didn't have to worry about a bad view.
Growing up in El Salvador, soccer was a sport that significantly impacted my childhood. My cousins and uncles taught me how to play soccer, as well as various techniques that would later benefit me on the soccer field. At the age of seven I started to play for one of most well-known soccer clubs in El Salvador. Practicing twenty three hours a week was really paying off, as I could see in my medal and trophy gain. Not only did they represent my accomplishments, but they also gave joy to my teammates, community, and family because they were the people who encouraged me to give my best. Playing soccer was also a way to release stress because when my family was going through hardships, it was easier for me to let all of my negative energy on the
When I hear when people undermine what soccer means to people like me I simply shake my head and laugh. Soccer has been a part of me for as long as I can remember and has created such an incredible impact on my life. There will come a day where the sport simply fades into treasured memories. I know to cherish every day that I get to play the sport. Soccer stands for more than just a game to me because it provides the perfect escape for my everyday problems, it taught me that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and my teammates all expect a lot from each other which pushes me and every individual on the team to be the best we can
I believe that soccer is better than any other sport that there is, because of two reasons. The first one being that I started playing soccer when i was really young. And The second reason being that soccer is the most known and played sport in the world. And when comparing the two,to the views and people who play (or at least like the sport), to american football, soccer wins by a landslide.
The Green Bay Packers and The Wisconsin Badgers are two very popular football teams, and are very fun to watch! And not only can people watch all different kinds of activities, they can play them too! Sports/activities are not always in the summer, a lot of activities can be in the winter too, but not all states have winter, so it can not be watched live, but Wisconsin has that benefit!! Watching sports teams on a T.V. or going and watch them
Playing gives me the most joy, however the enjoyment attending a game at Tropicana Field is pretty close. The smells of the overpriced food and the chants of the insistent vendors trying to sell raffle tickets, peanuts, popcorn, or cotton candy make the entire experience augmented. The small chance of catching a foul ball of home run keep you on the edge of your seat. You can also enjoy the game in the privacy of your own home, rooting for whoever you would
