Personal Narrative Essay: The Cause Of Caesar's Death

It happened on a cold, snowy winter day. Caesar had never seen the inside of his home or felt the warmth of his owner’s love. Only four years old and he has witnessed nothing but hate and been mistreated. He spent his whole life chained up in the back yard with no food and frozen or no water, no matter the weather. This horrible event, unfortunately, wasn’t the only horrible thing that happened to Caesar. He had a long road ahead of him to recovery, which I hoped would be soon for him. Caesar was found by Missouri German Shepard Rescue (MGSR); nearly frozen to death, starving, with worn down teeth. He was so thin you could see nothing but his back bone and ribs, and his left eye had a very bad infection that caused his eye to swell shut. …show more content…

Through all the tests we found Caesar had testicular cancer, tumors in his stomach, and nerve damage in his back right leg. Finding out he had all of these things wrong with him was a wakeup call to me and my coworkers. To get rid of the cancer, we did a surgery to neuter him and remove the cancer. The tumors in his stomach didn’t come back cancerous and weren’t big enough to be a huge issue, so we decided to closely monitor them. Since we were keeping a close eye on this, Caesar had daily checkups and weekly sonograms. To reduce pain with the nerve damage Caesar has been doing physical therapy and laser therapy. These two kinds of therapy have helped Caesar be able to stand on his own, walk a little by himself, and climb in and out of his kennel. After a month of living at the clinic and going through countless numbers of surgeries, biopsy’s, and daily checkups, Caesar was ready to be placed into a temporary home. Dr. Twigg checked in with Caesar and his new family more often than not and everything was going smooth. Only three weeks in, Dr. Twigg checked on the family and Caesar couldn’t walk; the foster family had stopped giving him the medication needed to be able to function.
