On February 21, my mom’s friend Julie told my family that her dog Jayden had 8 puppies. Julie knew my dad liked Pit bulls and asked if we would be interested in looking at the puppies. So my parents thought about it for a week or so because the puppies were too young to take home at that moment. When the puppies were 8 weeks old my family had decided that we would love to have one of the puppies. There were 2 puppies that looked exactly the same. We chose one of the females and brought her home over Spring Break.
We named the dog Libbi. She was a blue brindle with white markings. Her colors looked multiple shades of brown. She was a medium size dog and weighed 60 pounds. Her ears were not cropped and her tail was not docked. She looked exactly
how she was when she was a puppy. People always thought she was a boxer mix because of how she looked. When she was 6 months old my family took her to get her to puppy class at the kennel club. The trainer Chris Christianson taught my dad how to “work” with Libbi. In 8 weeks of going through Chris’s class Libbi learned many tricks such as sit, heel, roll over, and many more. My dad also took her through Canine Good Citizens classes in December 2005. During 9/11 some of Chris’s dogs that he owned did search and rescue at the sight of the Twin Towers. Her trigger words were go for ride, squirrel, treat, camping, walk, kitty, bunny, and gopher. The only thing my parents and I teased her about was how mean she was because she would either lick you to death or beat you with her tail. My family and I could always tell when it was time for bed. She would put her front paws on your lap and lick your face until you got up and moved to the bedroom. Libbi slept in my mom and dad’s room on the bed with them. After my parents got up in the mornings she would come to my room and visit with me.We had her for 11 years and truly miss her, but I will always have the amazing memories of her. 6-19-15
On June 20, Charlotte Alter posted an article on TIME website titled, “The Problem with Pit Bulls”. In her article she starts with an event that happened to a three year old little girl that was attacked by three Pit Bulls. The little girl and her family were in KFC and one of the employees asked her to leave because her face was “disrupting their customers”. Half of the little girl’s face is now paralyzed and she has also lost her vision in one of her eyes because of the three Pit Bulls that attacked her. Her grandfather killed the three Pit bulls that attacked her; however her grandfather is now facing charges of child-endangerment. KFC was so generous to donated money to the family to help with her medical bills. But yet the rant is more
The little girl and Mom saved the puppy from the Puppy Shop, right? Yes, they did save that ONE puppy, but they only added to the fuel of the Puppy mill industry. They could have adopted the same breed of puppy at a local animal shelter or rescue. In fact, the Humane Society estimated that each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a pet (2018). Making it very important to know that the number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying
Animals become dangerous because they were maltreated by their owners and when the media has exaggerated the danger of its breed to the public. A very good example of lies in society is the concept of the people on the breed of Pit bull Terriers.
I. Do you have a dog? Does anyone have a pit bull? Well I happy to say that I am a proud owner of 2 blue pits. Their names are Diamond and Jack, and I never been more in love with dog. They are just like my babies. At the end of the summer Diamond had her first litter. I was in awe’s because I was like I’m a grandmother now. They are more than
Because I had never owned a pit bull, and because of all the stories, I informed my daughter that we would research information concerning not only the breed, but also his care. There were more than a few books of information. I bought a book entitled, “Pitbull’s for Dummies”. This book not only describes the history of the breed, but informs new owners of the care that these dogs require. Also, I learned what kind of toys were best suited for him. I went shopping and created a play pen which had a crate in it. I put the puppy bed in the crate with blankets, and stuck all his stuffed animals around the crate. The floor was covered in potty pads. I was informed by the lady at the store that it would make the transition of a new home easier,
I am a lover of dogs and what I chose my topic about was dogs. I have three dogs I love them to pieces. Dogs have so much history from all the different breeds to how they came to be. They are very interesting from their head to their feet. Today I will tell you fun facts to old ancient, let’s begin!
Dachshunds are really awesome dogs once you start to research them. They may be hard to train, but once you have trained them, you will have a loyal companion. They can help you hunt or, they can just be an everyday pet. My three subtopics will be about breeding, potty training, and training your dachshund. Dachshunds will try your patience just like the 6th and 7th grade Language Arts class at Evans Christian Academy.

A common stereotype of “pit bulls are vicious animals” used as an excuse for why parents will not allow their children to go over to a pit bull owning person’s house to play with other children. In recent times the pit bull has received a bad reputation from the media due to dog fighting cases and false stories. During both world wars the American Pit Bull Terrier was used for many military propaganda posters because of its powerful and loyal characteristics as well as held officer positions in the military. Many households, such as my own, find the breed to be the best pets for their families because Pit Bulls are very protective and loving dogs. Even though Pit bulls can have an aggressive behavior if not trained properly, I believe the American
'breeding machines' • Interview Animals Australia, RSPCA, pet shop owners • Go around asking general public where they think their puppy's come from • Exposure of the truth, expose pet stores • Mt Lawley protests to stop it-at the end before offer solution • include expert opinions-including information about the health problems of dogs due to being kept in puppy farms • Problem to solution structure: Solution is to adopt from local pet shelter or search for your perfect companion on Pet Rescue Logos: animal shelter has so many dogs already and puppy farms are still breeding more puppies, why are we not adopting from animal shelters? Pathos: Dogs are man's best friend, we treat them so poorly. As a society Australia is failing to protect the animals that we as a nation love most: “In one in three Australian households, the family is not complete without a beloved dog” but these farmed dogs may have received very little love and care before they joined our
After subtle hinting for weeks, Laurie had finally made her request to take the pup in. After careful consideration and consulting Laurie's pediatrician whether it would okay to take in a dog, I made the decision to take it in. After a thorough examination by the vet for diseases, Laurie and I had become the proud owner of Ash the pup, with the name given to it by
One day when I was on www.kijiji.com I saw an ad for two free Old English Sheepdogs. What made this ad unique was the line stating that the dogs were blind due to unfortunate breeding circumstances. Ryan and I considered adopting one of these dogs, we liked the idea of giving a good home to an animal that couldn't see. It wasn't until a few days later that I really thought about the term “unfortunate breeding circumstances”.
I met the man to pick my choice of dog. I was brought into a room and in this room was a basket overflowing with sleeping puppies. They were two months old black and white but also a few brindle. Some had escaped and wandered off walking. Each one was five hundred dollars, not a price that bothered me since I saved enough for this. This small half black and white face male puppy really caught my attention. “That one!” Nothing was changing my mind on that. That puppy was going to be Bentley. All of my life, I had waited for this. He makes his arrival to his new
The day Mom got Sugar was somewhat frightening for me. Obviously, I wanted nothing to do with the dog, I never planned to be in the same room as the dog, much less, take care of the dog. After all, Mom was supposed to take care of the dog. Slowly, I fell in love with her. She looked stern and loving. Her warm, brown eyes and pearly white smile only helped me fall in love with her. Not long after that I started to enjoy her company. Sugar was a loyal dog, she wanted to please everyone. When we went for a walk Sugar would come with us. We kept her on a leash, yet she never strayed from us.
Ever since I can remember I’ve wanted a dog. Never did I think that dogs would end up being by biggest fear. I was just a little kid around 6 years old when it happened. I was walking home from my friend’s house when I saw a stray dog, it was in the middle of the street blocking my way, I decided to walk past it, while I was walking it started growling at me, I hesitated but still kept trying to walk then suddenly it got up and started barking empathically towards me. I was terrified, my first initial reaction being a 6 year old kid was to scare it away, I was ignorant. I picked up a rock and threw it at the dog thinking it’ll get scared and run away. I was wrong. The dog had enough it made a whimpering noise then started barking even louder
