The alarm woke me up at about 7:00 o’clock in the morning. I remember it like it was yesterday, staring at my phone feeling scared and excited to begin a new chapter in my life. I was starting my first day of highschool, but instead of being at the school I had planned on going to since I was 11, I was starting high school on the complete opposite side of the world. Netanya, Israel was where I was going to spend the next year of my life. I still couldn’t believe I wasn’t starting high school with all of my old friends, it’s all we had talked about since middle school. So many thoughts were racing through my mind but my dad and I were already running late, so the only thing I could think about was what shoes I was going to wear. I put on my favorite pair of Nikes and then we were out the door. We got to my school and just by looking at my surroundings I already knew things weren’t how …show more content…
Some boys were sitting on a bench and they were smoking cigarettes. I didn’t understand this because in America it’s prohibited to smoke on school grounds, especially when a young high schooler is doing it. I was amazed at how laid back everything seemed. Nobody was hurrying to get to class and it looked more like a social gathering rather than kids going to school. The weather was warm like always, so everyone was outside. I remember walking past people and feeling too scared to even look them in the eyes. At the time I could only speak a bit of hebrew, so the thought of someone trying to ask me something was a nightmare I didn’t want to experience. I continued looking around and I noticed there was a stand where you could buy pastries. I got extremely excited because I have never had something like that at my schools before, and the pastries in Israel were beyond amazing. I looked at the time and I had 10 minutes to find the office before my first class actually
It was a bone-chilling winter morning in Bavaria. My alarm clock rang, and I slapped it to snooze. Oh no, I was not getting up that day. I had just finished the worst school week of my life. If we zoom back to that time two years ago, I was a 14 year old foreign exchange student in southern Germany.
As I ran, I thought of the change of clothes I wished I had. Then I thought of my mother. I told her I’d be back, but I wasn’t sure I would.
It was the fall of 2010 and little did I know that my world was about to change drastically. We had moved back to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2008 after living in Mexico, and I was starting to enjoy my life in the dairy state. My 6th Grade classes had just started at Bullen Middle School. It was right at this time when my world seemingly got flipped upside down. My parents had a family meeting and informed my siblings and me that we were moving to a small Iowa town called Orange City. I had feelings of nervousness, excitement, and sadness all mixed together.
Everything started a few years ago. It was a warm and beautiful night in Africa; the dark blue sky was full of stars… and those were the last things I remember before I woke up in a cold and wet floor. I do not know where I was, or why I my hands were tight behind my back.
I was told that this, my junior year, would be the easiest year of my high school career. And no, they were absolutely wrong. It was not just school and grades that I was concern about either. I had other things to worry about, things like, driving, clubs, friends and family. I however had no idea that it would be this difficult. Throughout this school year I have learned many things; like the value of sleep, whose really your friend, and that although very important, grades are not everything.
When I was in middle school I thought life was just full of joy and I really did not have
It went silent, no more words the rest of the way. As we turned to the school It was huge and clean. Nothing that I have ever seen. As I started to class this girl pushed me, her blonde pigtails swaying in the wind. It was Miz Lillian Jean, I
I scarcely snoozed at all, the day before; incidentally, I felt insecure regarding the fact of what the unfamiliar tomorrow may bring and that was rather unnerving. After awakening from a practically restless slumber, I had a hefty breakfast expecting that by the conclusion of the day, all I wanted to do is go back home and sleep. Finally, after it was over, my dad gladly drove me to school; there, stood the place where I would spend my next four years of my life.
That was the first school I went here in the United States. The first day of school I wasn’t only nervous I was so confused. Everything was so different the climate, the people, the schedule, everything. The first day was terrible the only thing that made me a little exited was that for the first time I was going to have a locker, because the previous schools I went to din’t have lockers. The first day I looked at the schedule every minute and before entering the class room I would see the number of the classroom like a hundred times to sure I wasn’t going to go into the wrong room. I remember that when it was lunch time I went to the cafeteria and made the line to take the food, I took it and I went straight to the table and when I finished eating I went to the bathroom because I was alone and dint have nothing to do or a phone or something to distract myself. When I got out of the bathroom I saw people going in class rooms so I tough OMG I am late for my next class, because in my old school everybody had lunch at the same time so hurry up and when I enter to the class room the teacher just looked at me and I dint know what to do so I give him my schedule and he told me that I dint have that class until the other periods that I was still in lunch. This high school was also a really big public school, it had four floors. The next day when I was walking to the cafeteria I saw a girl that talked
On May 21th, 2006 my life was changed forever. One day in kindergarten my teacher got a call on the intercom saying “Can you send down Hamdi to Ms. McCarthy's office”. The whole class started teasing me and saying “Hamdi’s in trouble, Hamdi’s in trouble” and I immediately bursted into tears. Imagine how I felt when I get called down to the principal's office then get mocked by my peers for getting in trouble. In kindergarten, I was the “goody two shoes” to the point where even my teacher was shocked when I got called down. When I got there with my puffy red eyes, there Ms. McCarthy was waiting at the door with a big smile on her face. She went down on her knees to the point where our were eye to eye and said “Honey don’t worry, you aren't in trouble”. I was so relieved, then she had me come into
It was the second semester of fourth grade year. My parents had recently bought a new house in a nice quite neighborhood. I was ecstatic I always wanted to move to a new house. I was tired of my old home since I had already explored every corner, nook, and cranny. The moment I realized I would have to leave my old friends behind was one of the most devastating moments of my life. I didn’t want to switch schools and make new friends. Yet at the same time was an interesting new experience.
My first year in college has been a rewarding experience. As I look back on my Why College, Why Now essay, I realize that I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about myself. I am proud that I accomplished my goals I made in my first year of college and I exceeded my expectations. I still have the same goal for the future, but I added more goals for the future. I am attending Wilmington University because I want to make my future brighter. Attending college and earning a degree in communication media will help me obtain an exciting job as a professional journalist.
It was just another day of my life. The fourth ring of my alarm woke me up. As usual, I was not feeling to go in school. I slept a couple of more minutes. After while, the shine of the sun coming from the window woke me up.I slowly stretched my arms and slid out of bed. I brushed my teeth and took the shower. Downstair,my mother was calling me for breakfast.I was still undecided what should wear for school. After browsing for while I found something to wear, and finished getting myself ready for school. When I checked the clock, I was running late as usual, which was not a surprised. I quickly ate my half sandwich and left the rest of the sandwich on the table.I took my car key, jump in my black Lexus and made my way to school.During my way to school, I got a call from my friend John. John is my best friend since when we were in middle school. He told me that his car was broke down and he needed to ride to school. Fortunately, my friend house on my school way. I told my friend. I am on my way to pick you up from your house. As I got there, john come out from his house and jumped in my car. With sound of Drake singing and music blasting, it was a
“RING RING RARING RING RARING” I squinted my eyes and quickly hit the snooze on the alarm. “WAKE UP ALREADY!” My mother yells at me. I bursted out of bed and quickly grabbed my freshly ironed outfit that I got ready the night before. “Hurry get ready, I’m making you breakfast” my mother insists.
It was December 4, 2014 and it was snowing outside. I was sitting at the kitchen table doing homework. All my family was downstairs, so I was all alone. My English teacher told us to write a paper about how I am different from my classmates. I was thinking about what in my life makes me different and slowly my whole life was playing like a movie in my head. The first memory that popped into my head was my fourth birthday party. It was supposed to be the best birthday ever. My dad was going to come. It was February 24, 2002 at my birthday party. There were so many people there, but I was so focused on my dad coming, no one else seemed to matter. My cake was pink and yellow with a bicycle on it. I had a red and blue inflatable that kids were
