1). The student will adapt part of a novel into a dramatic reading makes students more intimate with the author's intentions and craft.
Although the greater picture is that reading is fundamental, the two authors have a few different messages that they seek to communicate to their audiences. “The Joy of Reading and Writing” depicts how reading serves as a mechanism to escape the preconceived notions that constrain several groups of people from establishing themselves and achieving success in their lifetimes. “Reading to Write,” on the other hand, offers a valuable advice to aspiring writers. The author suggests that one has to read, read, and read before he or she can become a writer. Moreover, he holds an interesting opinion concerning mediocre writing. He says, “Every book you pick has its own lesson or lessons, and quite often the bad books have more to teach than the good ones” (p.221). Although these two essays differ in their contents and messages, the authors use the same rhetorical mode to write their essays. Both are process analyses, meaning that they develop their main argument and provide justification for it step by step. By employing this technique, the two authors create essays that are thoughtful, well supported, and easy to understand. In addition, Alexie and King both add a little personal touch to their writings as they include personal anecdotes. This has the effect of providing support for their arguments. Although the two essays have fairly different messages, the authors make use of anecdotes and structure their writing in a somewhat similar
How does reading a story benefits an individual and improve his or her daily life? Extensive reading does not only serve as an entertainment purpose, but it is also beneficial to many readers because reading fiction can help enhance a person’s understanding of the type of society the reader lives in. For example, the famous novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is regarded as a brilliant work of literature, for it offers a detailed glimpse of the American life in the 1920s and comments on various social problems during that time period. The novel tells the story of a mysterious millionaire named Jay Gatsby who lives in the fictional town of West Egg, located on Long Island, during the summer of 1922. Gatsby wants to pursue his first
He has seen people emotionally break down and struggle immensely to get by along his way to becoming a professor at UCLA. Clearly, there is something going on with the educational system. There are many ways to become literate, however, one way is through reading narratives. Narratives allow readers to grow an imagination and build off of what the authors are writing about.
Personal narratives allow you to share your life with others and vicariously experience the things that happen around you. Your job as a writer is to put the reader in the midst of the action letting him or her live through an experience. Although a great deal of writing has a thesis, stories are different. A good story creates a dramatic effect, makes us laugh, gives us pleasurable fright, and/or gets us on the edge of our seats. A story has done its job if we can say, "Yes, that captures what living with my father feels like," or "Yes, that’s what being cut from the football team felt like."
Narrative Essay- is a piece of writing in form of a story which recreates a personal experience. It needs to involve the reader (interesting), have the sequence of time and space (actual times and actual places), present changes, contrasts, conflicts, or tensions, include detailed observations about people, places, or events (sights, sounds, smells, tastes, feelings, etc.), be told from our point of view, be focused on connecting the past event, people, or place with how relevant would it be today or in the future, and allow readers to make an assumption of why we still have memory of this experience (Desoto,
A narrative is a story. In writing a narrative essay, you share with the reader some personal experience of your own in order to make a point or convey a message. You may choose to tell how your grandfather influenced your desire to become an orthodontist, or perhaps you’ll relate the story of the time you didn’t make the cut for the basketball team. Whatever story you tell, your purpose is to share with others some experience that has taught you something or changed you somehow.

Narrative criticism serves to help us make meaning out of our daily human experience and how different elements of our experience are connected. It is a means by which we comprehend how we impose order on our experiences and actions by giving them narrative form. Narratives help us interpret and construct our reality and “establish coherence for ourselves” (Foss 307). It is “both a way of knowing about and a way of participating in the social world” (Foss 307). There are four main characteristics of narratives, as outlined in Rhetorical Criticism: Exploration and Practice by Sonja K. Foss.

The advantages that one can get from reading are, being exposed to different writing styles, substance and different perspectives to go about writing. There is very little mystery to writing the personal narrative essay. There is no proper topic for such an essay. An essay can be about a variety of personal experiences. You, the writer, have the right to say what you want about your personal experience. You can write about anything -- Aunt Sally, the funky necklace you bought at a garage sale, the harrowing experience of being stuck in an elevator, the best Christmas you ever had, the worst day of your life. No topic or subject is off-limits; therefore there are endless opportunities to write an essay about your personal, point-of-view of what happened. Often the reason behind wanting to write a personal essay is unclear. Once the writing begins and the events are recorded and recounted it becomes clear that the writer is searching to find the meaning, the universal truth, the lesson learned from the experience. When writing, rewriting and good editing coalesce, a personal narrative essay becomes a beautiful thing. It shows how the past or a memory’s significance affects the present or even the future.
Throughout my life I have found peace and serenity in going to the mountain to ski. Even if there wasn't snow, I still find it to be a calm and relaxing place. I wake up in the mornings knowing that the day will be long but will be totally worth it. When I get stressed I ski letting reality slip away from me like the skis on snow. The feeling this gives me is a rush of pleasure and stimulation.
There are a lot of things that I get engaged into easily. One of the things I get engaged in is sports, whenever I am playing sports I get super engaged and all I can think about is the game. Sports captivate me because I find them really fun and I am also super competitive and you have to be competitive to play sports and be good at them. Usually when I need help or something for a sport I ask my dad or one of my coaches. Another thing that I get really engaged in is video games.
