A Trip to the U.S. America, Almost every single person on earth has a dream of living in a country full of freedom, liberty, and opportunity. The United States has been providing these benefits ever since it was founded a few hundred years ago. So when I found out that my family would be coming to America, I had already started planning my future of growing up here. Just like any other person, I was feeling enthusiastic and a little nervous of leaving my native country and coming to America to start a better life. I was completely lost in my thoughts of happiness, that I became unaware of all the difficulties that my family and I would face once we step into our new lives. Among these difficulties were the change of language, change of system, and the variety of different cultures. The first change that I noticed when I was on my flight was the varities of new languages, especially English. Although, I knew how to speak English and had quite a bit of understanding about it, I was still amused by the American accent and realized that it would take me a while to become fluent in it. To some people, learning new languages can be extremely difficult and that was one of my problems when it came to adjusting to the American …show more content…
way of life. English was not the only language that we encountered. For example, when we had to change our flight in Germany, my family and I had a difficulty in understanding the two languages spoken there, which were German and English. Due to that, we almost missed our second flight, since we had no idea what the flight attendant told us. Furthermore, we had the same problem when we landed in chicago and had to look around the whole airport for our luggage. In other words, learning a new language was one of the many obstacles that I faced when I came to America. Another major conflict we faced was the change of system from my country to that of America.
We saw items that we thought did not exist at all. For example, we saw many advanced electronic devices such as smartphones, Ipads, video games, macbooks, etc. Sure we owned cellphones and laptops back home, but what we saw in America came from the new generation. I also encountered the change of education system. For instance, what I learned in my previous schools from my native country was way different from what I started learning in America. There was a change in the curricular, level placement, and a change in the way schools worked. To be more clear, American way of life was completely different from what I had grown up with in my
country. Finally, the most important difficulty that I faced was the variety of different cultures and the different way of thinking that America contained. I would not call it a difficulty though because it was something that I had get used to. When I first came here, I did have a trouble fitting in school or even outside of school. It was due to the fact that I was not used to living in a world where there were different races of people with their own ways of thinking. I was only used to living around my kind of people; however coming to the U.S. and experiencing the diversity of cultures and religions made me realize that even though we are all different, we are still human beings that share the same needs of survival. Overtime, I did find a way to fit into the diverse society and made many friends of different cultures. To conclude, my trip to America was a trip that exposed me to new languages, advanced systems, and various different cultures. Even though, it was difficult for me to adjust to my new life coming to America made me realize that the people here has the same needs and desires as of those from where I came from. Therefore, I feel like it was fate that caused my family and me to take a permanent trip to America, so that we could learn new things and have a chance of living in a country full of freedom, liberty, and opportunity.
Have you imagined leaving your homeland behind and settling in a different country? As a kid I always enjoyed the idea of traveling the world, and discovering new things, but never had thought it would be very hard to let go everything and leave. Growing up, I was always eager to meet new people, learn new languages, and make my own adventures in life. Soon, that dream turned into reality when my family decided to move to the United States of America in hopes of having a better future and new opportunities. I had mixed feelings and was confused about what to expect in the future. However, this was the biggest fear I have ever faced in my life. It was difficult to get adjusted to a new culture challenging because change brings the unknown and unfamiliar with it.
America is often known as the land of opportunity, a place where you can be free. Many Immigrants came to America so that they could have a greater possibility at succeeding in life. Immigrants took a leap of faith when coming to America, for some it worked out well but for others they had a difficult time here. Despite the struggles that the immigrants encountered such as; standing out from others, being separated from their families, and breaking their culture, the immigrants are still grateful to be in America because they were in better conditions than they were in their home land. When viewing interviews or looking at an immigrant’s perspective you get many responses to being in America, some major things that stood out were the amount of freedom the immigrant had, and the age of the immigrant. These two things had a huge impact on the opinion of America from an Immigrants point of view.
...d to United States, I was grateful that I made the decision to move. When my family visited, I was able to cherish every moment with them because I knew how difficult life without them. I was grateful to have my family. Their endless support and advice, helped me to improved myself. Lived independently in United states, I grew as a better person, I learned how to planned a better time management and to be responsible on my priority.
There are many challenges that one must face as we go through life. I have faced a few myself, however, none proved more challenging than moving from my country; Jamaica, to the United States and subsequently moving to the state of Wisconsin. Deciding to leave behind family and friends is the hardest decision to make, however, there are a few things that I was not prepared for that made the transition more challenging than expected. Moving away from all that is familiar culturally, socially and economically can be even more of a daunting task than imagined. There are things that are taught to us by our parents and others that are more dictated by our environment than anything else, so when I immigrated to the United States I had three major challenges to overcome.
Every person has an American Dream they want to pursue, achieve and live. Many people write down goals for themselves in order to get to their dream. Those never ending goals can range from academic to personal. As of today, I am living my dream. My American Dream is to become a nurse, travel to many places, have a family, and get more involved with God.
For me adapting a new language was tough because where I came from we don’t verbalize English. So, before we move to the United States I had to get that primary knowledge of English in a short duration. At that time I consummated my one semester of 9 the grade. My parents thought of dropping me out school, so I can just focus on English. Since then my main focus was to learn English. I think that was the hardest thing I have done in my life. Day by day I was learning incipient thing, but I wasn’t quit understanding the language.
Where I am from, coming to America is an unachievable dream for most people; however, that dream became attainable to me one summer. When my father told my family and me that we were moving to America, I was very excited and I thought about a lot of things. I thought about all of the opportunities there were in the U.S. and how rich everyone must be. I also thought that everyone in the U.S. lived in big houses, and every school had a swimming pool. Most of what I conceived about America came from watching television, and a month later I would find out how wrong I was.
Growing up in the Caribbean Island known as Saint Martin. The lifestyle is completely different compared to living in the United States. You could imagine that you’re living in paradise. I came to the USA because my mother and I weren’t on good terms at the time. St Martin is less violent, less racism and the education is more evolved on certain level meaning schools hours are longer than in America and children starts school at the age of 2, and also racism isn’t issued example: Blacks, Caucasians, Asians would get along perfectly; the distances was shorter I used to walk to the store or to go the beaches or meet up friends, transportation is totally different and bit more organize and less confusing. To have been able to grow up in an amazing
Everyone has dream in life. Some people have a dream to visit different places and some people want to become successful in future. Likewise I also had a dream to come USA and to become successful in future. I was 17 when I came here with my parents. I heard a lot from my friends about their first day in USA. They said it was so sad however mine was the best day and the long day in my life which I can’t ever forget. I still remember that day in USA; I was sleeping in the airplane because I was so tired of traveling 18 hours flight. I was in a deep sleep suddenly I heard someone was calling my name because of that I wake up. It was my mom who was calling me. She told me to look outside I rub my eyes and looked outside. I still remember that moment when I first looked California, USA through plane window, those tall building which I saw in movies looks like a plane ground. I was so excited to be here in USA I feel like it is a piece of heaven.
The theory of evolution states that living beings who adjust to the surroundings are more likely to survive. A person’s life is like a chameleon. Moving to the U.S. changed my life drastically, as I learned a lesson about being responsible.
I had to get used to the school schedule. I was used to waking up very early to walk three miles to my nearest school but that all changed. I had to adapt to the new culture, learning what is right and what is wrong. I had to watch everyone keenly. My biggest fear was making friends with the wrong people and being negatively influenced. I made some great friends at this time. I had to adapt to the new teaching curriculum. I had to learn all the new subjects. The most difficult subjects I had to learn were History and English. I had no knowledge of any American History. I even didn’t know any of the simple facts like when America got its independence. Luckily, I had an amazing teacher who took her extra time to teach me what was important to be leant. She had a very positive impact on me. Moving to America has changed me in a positive way. I have learned so much during this transformation. I have learned how to communicate with people around me. I have learned how to see other people’s problems from their point of view, something that I also experienced. Not only have I have learned to grow out of my comfort zone and boundaries, I have also learned how to adapt to things that I’m not used
Moving to another country and starting a new chapter of life are two of the most difficult things in life. Nobody wants to change, including me. In my country, Vietnam, people usually says that "if you have a chance to live in the United States, your future will be so bright because living in America is living on a field that is full of gold." When I was young and still as a child, my parent told me that we will be leaving Vietnam and moving to the United States in the future. When I heard that, I was so happy. Four years ago, my family and I moved to the United States with the hope of having a better future and the happiness of family reunion with my grandparent. On the way to United State, we always thought, expected, and hoped that everything will be okay and fine. After few months we have been living in the new country, problems started to happen. My parents could not communicate and understand people who spoken English because they had no chance to study English back in Vietnam. In Vietnam, they only used motorcycle. When they came here, they had to learn how to drive cars. It was really hard for my parents to find jobs since they could not speak and understand English, could not drive either. Everything was new and we had to learn and start everything from the beginning. It was really hard for my parent, including me.
My brother knowing that I will definitely experience culture shock, started giving me tidbits of what I would expect. I remember him saying “This is America my sister, they speak different here, many things have different names from home”. He then told me “open the trunk and offload y...
In general, facing all the dangers of the sea just to arrive to a country that gives it all easy on hand was worth it. Leaving family behind worrying about my safety is a very challenging experience. A boat ride that took a lot of sweat and dedication lead to a better future and new opportunities to pick from. Settling in a new place surrounded with stranger that have different cultures can be full of surprises. Meeting new people that don’t speak the same language will put exert force on to improve the vocabulary. All I know, my trip to America changed my life from negative to positive real
