Hello! I’m super excited for this class because I find I usually really enjoy English-based classes. You might like to know that I’m a PSEO student here at Century. I go to an online high school called IQ Academy; I actually really enjoy and would definitely recommend it. I took a few classes here at Century College this past fall semester and I’m planning on coming back next fall. To start things off, my full name is Michaela, however, I’m almost always called Micki and it’s what I prefer. I have four amazing siblings; Alex, Tony, Katie, and Ava. I’m the second youngest out of the four. I grew up just outside of White Bear Lake, in Vadnais Heights. Vadnais Heights is great because it has lots of what I call nature parks; my dad would take
Bob’s side of the family, Reva Heidi, or as I refer to her: Mema. I also met Aunt Melanie, Uncle Steve and my cousins: I instantly became friends with one of my cousins, Lonnie, as he also enjoyed watching Star Wars films and playing with LEGO bricks. That year, I also entered first grade at Highland Rim Elementary School, which as of now, I consider my favorite academic institution. Despite not easily making friends, I admired my teacher, Mrs. Peggy, as she frequently challenged our class with A.R. testing; these tests initiated my hobby of reading. Then in 2009, my dad and stepmom adopted a newborn girl, Serenity; she is currently seven years old. For the next few years, I considered my life exceptional, although several frustrating events
Happy New Year and the second semester of the school year. The first semester was a test on how students would blend into the new academics. Honors English was a great choice I made in middle school and I would recommend it to any incoming freshman. I have learned new ways to create claims and the proper way to set up paragraphs. Learning the way to set up paragraphs has improved my writing skills, even out of the english classroom. English comes in handy in the World Geography classroom as I have learned and may be useful in the future.
I was born on September 15th, 1999 in a small town called Watervliet, MI. I was the first born out of three children, and the only girl. Growing up as the oldest and the only girl in a traditional Mexican family was definitely not the easiest thing to deal with. My parents have always been strict with me, which I believe has shaped me to be a responsible woman. I have two younger brothers who are 15, and 10 years old.
Although, I have been a good student at school, I always have struggles doing my homework like any other student. Sometimes, it is difficult to me to understand my assignments; however, I always try to obtain a knowledge from my courses. In this case English 111, like any other course left a mark on my academic and personal life.
This class was far more intense than what I expected but I was able to make it through the semester. I learned a lot from this class that I will carry into the future and use in other classes. All of the revision and feedback I have received during the time in the class helped me in the end. I feel like I am gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything that I have learned in this class and use it for future reference when writing papers. I overall have enjoyed this class this semester.
My first college English class was ENC 1101 at the State College of Florida. In this course, I learned a vast amount of information about writing, reading, and grammar. When I first walked into ENC 1101 in August, I expected the class to be like any other English class in High School; with rushed busy work and a lot of useless tests and quizzes. However, throughout each week of the semester, Professor Knutsen’s class made me beg to differ. This class was not like any other high school English class. In this class I actually learned important information and did not do work just to complete it. This class had a few assignments here and there, enough to maintain, in order to learn proper information. I learned a lot in this class because I was not rushed to
As the dull scent of chalk dust mixes imperceptably with the drone of the teacher's monotone, I doodle in my tablet to stay awake. I notice vaguely that, despite my best efforts in the shower this morning after practice, I still smell like chlorine. I sigh and wonder why the school's administration requires the students to take a class that, if it were on the Internet, would delight Mirsky (creator of Mirsky's Worst of the Web), as yet another addition to his list of worthless sites. Still, there was hope that I would learn something that would make today's first class more than just forty-five wasted minutes... It wouldn't be the first time I learned something new from the least likely place.
As the first semester of my sophomore year wraps up, I begin to realize that I have learned a lot in all of my classes. The class that I learned the most from has definitely been my English 111 course. This class have given me so many opportunities to improve my writing skills. With all of the success I’ve had in this class, I believe I will do just fine with writing later in my life.
All I could remember on my journey to literacy was my concern over my brother and sister’s ability to read and write including solving math problems. That did not really motivate not to become literate; I was extremely playful as a child. What I am able to remember is my first day of school, I cried like a baby when my mom dropped me off. I soon began to grow out of my baby stage and school became really interesting. Even though it was not as hard as it is now, the value that pushed me to be literate was how my teacher was able to discipline students if they didn’t give the best to their education.
My name is Katelyn Sandoval, I was born in Dallas, TX. I am 21 years old, full-time student at Tarrant County College. I am the oldest of three sisters. I am also married to my husband Jose; we have two beautiful kids named Joshua he is a year and a half and Susana is 7 months. I love to spending time with my kids, they have changed completely my perspective of how I view the world. I grew up motivating myself, and no matter what I faced, I have educated myself to hustle through the issues, life can bring. I give thanks to God, that I have been successful in everything that I have accomplished thus far, and I have established more goals and dreams in my life, that I am determine to fulfill.
My first figurative language example from the text is personification. ‘My throat was dry and the words were choking me, paralyzing my lips. There was nothing else to say’ p.g 15. This impacted me as a reader because having to tell somebody the news that you are leaving your house and all your belongings behind is hard to say to someone especially in this point of time. Also Elie was a kid back then which also makes a big impact because having to be a kid in this time and place is very difficult and scary to go through. It impacts the reading experience because it builds up suspense of what the family will do next since they got kicked out of their house. Also you can kind of get a glimpse that the story might go on to be a tough journey for
Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school… right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn’t make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn’t feel good.
I am not the kind of person who talks or writes much. Putting my thoughts on papers is something I have always struggled with doing. I believe this class will help me improve on transferring my thoughts to paper, in an organized fashion. I look forward to becoming a better writer because of this class.
There are many different types of events that shape who we are as writers and how we view literacy. Reading and writing is viewed as a chore among a number of people because of bad experiences they had when they were first starting to read and write. In my experience reading and writing has always been something to rejoice, not renounce, and that is because I have had positive memories about them.
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
