I trained for weeks, it was all leading up to that night. It was September twelfth, the night of the DeMotte Boxing Club’s Fighting Fundraiser. I was fighting my friend, Brian Hinson, We trained together for the fight. The nervousness started to eat at me by the second fight. We were the eighth. I knew he felt it to. We sat and watched a few fights. I knew that he only trained at the gym. I trained every day at home as well as the gym. The other boxers were good. I had no chance against most of them. I pondered about how my fight was going to go. I had never fought in a fight with an audience. I have sparred at the gym, but people rarely pay attention to the sparrers. There was two fights ahead of us when we went to go gear up. I had my mouth peice so I didn't have …show more content…
I gave a quick glance over at my opponent. He was huffing and puffing. I knew that I had the match I just had to gain the strength to finish the last match. The bell rung, I stood up and touched gloves. I sent a left hook with as much strength as I could put into it. I hit him with a cross to the chin, then two jabs to his nose, and a right hook to his left temple. He sent a left hook that I saw a mile away and leaned back and hit him in the jaw with an uppercut. I then hit him with a hook-cross-uppercut combo. He hit me with two hooks one hit me in the right side and the other in the left. I felt my insides die, but i had to push through it. I stood back up and hit him with a left hook, and ducked under a cross. I stood back up with a right uppercut and he started to fall backwards. The ref. looked at me, and I backed up and he asked if my opponent was ok. We kept going. I leaned right to slip from a jab then right from a cross only to send a cross of my own to my opponent head. He ducked and I threw a left hook and connected with his jaw then hit him with a cross only for the ref. to call the match so I wouldn’t knock out my
James Braddock took his father’s lessons to heart when he practiced fighting in the old schoolyard before he reached his teenage years. He practiced for several years to be an amateur fighter. When Braddock first started boxing he avoided professional competitions for two years. Instead, they froze the title, which means Braddock earned money touring the country giving public appearances and boxing exhibitions. In 1926, he entered the professional boxing circuit in the light heavyweight division. Braddock started out well, knocking out opponent after opponent in the first few rounds.
Boxing was earlier known by the name Pugilism ,meaning “sweet Science”(The Editors Of Encyclopedia Britannica).Historical evidence lead to the fact that boxing was prevalent in North Africa in four thousand B.C, it was also popular in Greek and Rome(HOB).Now Back to MMA, the fastest growing sports organization in the world ,the Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC),started in 1993 as a professional mixed martial arts(MMA) organization(UFC). For a fight recap if a kickboxer was matched with a brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, the kickboxer would realize that he must become more adept at defending takedowns ,thus prompting him to train with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner(UFC). From that point forward ,competitions were no longer between athletes who focused on a singular martial art ,but between to an athlete with two are or more
Jack Dempsey was best known for his intriguing knockouts and his fists of steel (“Biography”). In his fight against Jess Willard, former champion, Dempsey knocked him down seven times within three minutes (Smith). This was the boxing match that began Dempsey’s reign as heavy weight champion of the world (Hadden 161). After the fight he earned the nick na...
The newspapers, the streets, billboards, people even got posters and t-shirts of my husband, Jim Braddock the heavyweight champion! Oh how life life is going be now. I'm so excited for him, for our family, for us. The kids don’t have to be hungry anymore. We have money we have food, and we also have a new pet for the kids. They are so excited, probably even more than their dad is. I so happy he made it out alive. Oh good god I was so nervous for him. I can't wait until he comes back from his next fight tonight. It's going to start real soon. I hate watching him fight so I'll just have my friends tell me what happened when it's over. I heard the guy he's fighting is new so no one knows how good he really is. Hopefully he's new enough that it won't last long until he's
Before earning my black belt, I never saw myself as someone who could accomplish great things. I always undermined myself by not using my full potential. I rarely tried to prove myself correct when someone else shot down my statement because I did not know I had the tenacity to take action.
Being a professional boxer didn’t do much for his mental health because he says he would feel on top of the world and yet so lonely at the same time after a fight. Therefore, he suffered not only the physical demands, but the mental demands in the professional arena of the sport.
At first, Muhammad Ali had no intension of boxing. After his bike was stolen, in the month of October 1954, when he was twelve, his whole life was set. Upon finding out that there was a police officer in the basement of a gym, Ali went down to the officer in a shocked state of mind demanding a "state wide bike hunt" for hsi stolen bicycle. But all the cop told him to do was to learn to fight. and that
In my freshman year at Lewisville High School I joined the wrestling team. Originally my only reason for joining this discourse community was to lose the weight I gained over the previous summer, but that changed when I got to experience the joy of wrestling firsthand. Being a part of the wrestling team helped me understand the inner workings of the sport, the importance of team chemistry, and what perseverance can accomplish. Joining this discourse community was the best decision I made high school by far.
The approach was when Mr. Voss got a call from one of the directors of the UFC. They said they had an open spot if he wanted it. Like a smart person he accepted it, and had to fly to Vegas for the fight. He will be fighting Ken Detrick otherwise known as the executioner. Niko did not think Mr. Voss deserved a chance like this. They argued until they came to a conclusion. The ordeal happened when Mr. Voss entered the octagon with Ken Detrick. The moment before he entered the ring he was told that all the money he had raised was gone. He knew he would have to win. The first two rounds were very bad for Mr. Voss, but he survived. This was when his epic flaw was introduced. Mr. Voss was way to brave for his own good. His journey home was easy, he had to get on a plane and fly home to a school with new equipment, and happy students.
Ever since the previous season I had my standards set high. I had placed fifth, which was all right for the time being, but I knew as time went on I needed to push myself and increase my level of wrestling. I decided that I would do whatever it took, through thick and thin. I traveled to small local tournaments in Colorado, and a couple out-of-state tournaments, I even traveled to Delaware. It didn't really matter how I did at these tournaments because it was just all practice until February. So, I lifted and wrestled just about every chance I got. It was all in preparation for one match, six minutes.
Once upon a time, I qualified for the Tae Kwon Do State Championships, to go to the Tae Kwon Do Junior Olympics in Orlando, Florida. It was my second year at the Jr. Olympics, and I was competing in two events. Sparring and forms. Forms has always been my favorite, partly because I was pretty good at doing them. Sparring was okay. I guess.
As the season progressed, competition started getting fiercer. I was up against girls running at a 5A level, yet, I was able to hold my own. Finally there came a tiny light at the end of the tunnel; it seemed as though I was getting closer and closer to accomplishing my goal. Along with my undefeated title came a huge target painted on my back. I religiously checked "Rocky Preps" every day to see if the competition was gaining on me. It seemed that every time I had improved, there was someone right behind me, running their personal best too. I trained during the weeks before regionals like I had never trained before. Each day my stomach became more twisted with knots that looped around every part of my stomach. I don't think I had ever been that nervous in my whole life.
"1" "2" "3" "4" "5" "6" the crowd started cheering again as he got up I thought that was him over and done but he wanted more pain. I was just thinking of my next move as he approached me. Hit after hit it was just a bloody game now my best combination was a left jab followed by a right cross, and then a left hook, the tension was created then I seen the
to fight in the center of the arena, but have a sudden change of mind
This idea of pride suddenly came in my head because I knew I had to keep going or I will be laughed at. Pride overcame me so I chose the second choice which I regret because I could’ve came to school without feeling sore in my arms and legs. But as a young gentleman I don’t like backing down because of pride, thus the fight continues. After getting pummeled by him some more, my brain finally snapped and I finally got the courage to fight back. Clenching my cowardly fists, I withdrew my hand and then socked him straight in the face making him slip. Landing blows after blows on him I did not care what would happen to me, maybe my brain has had enough of my cowardness. Maybe my brain told my body that I should start standing up for myself and that I do have the courage to fight, I just don’t try. Whatever the case, I had finally stood up for myself for once in my fifteen year old
