"At the foot of the cross, where I am made complete. You have given me life through the death, you have bore for me. And you have won my heart." - Kathryn Scott
As I sit here and struggle with a title, topic, or simply the words to say, I am overcome with amazement at the sight of God at work in each and everyone of our lives. It is such a refreshing site and much need peace. Being a senior in highschool is of course fabulous and every other postive emotion you could possibly list, but it is also terrifying and absoutely overwheleming.
Big Daddy Weave not only has a completely snazzy stage name, but some of Christian music's best lyrics in a song. Words spoken by man could never do justice for the absolute beauty of the greatest artist of all time. In the song "Overwhelmed," BD Weave sings wonderfully of the mercies and presence of our loving, powerful, creative, merciful God. As the song floods the room around me, I am reminded that this Earth is not our home. So many times, as in this week for example, I have allowed myself to get caught up in the wordly things. School, boys, future dreams,

etc. and I have unknowingly allowed fear of the unknown keep me from seeing the bigger picture and strengthing my personal relationship with Christ. God has called us out and in the waters of the world to be a witness for HIS glory.
Not our own personal gain or our own popularity, but to be humbled and shine as the salt and light of the Earth. In the new testament book of Matthew, in chapter 5, Jesus is teaching to his disciples on a mountainside. He has already began to decribe what a life of following Chirst entails. In verses 13-16:
"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Insead they put it on its stand, and its gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify the Father in
Heaven. Jesus is telling us to bravely, but humbly be the light of the world. We use salt on our sometimes bland cooking to add a little flavor. If salt stopped adding flavor, we all know a family member, whose meal would be in some deep trouble. Can I get an amen?! :) Salt back in Jesus' day was very expensive.. It was used as an act of persevation. If you killed a big game animal, and wanted to save the meat for a later day, since you couldn't freeze it, you would do what was called a "Salt Cure." You would put the meat in a salt/water combo and the meat would absorbe the salt and become dry. So Jesus telling us that one of the purposes of being a disciple is to be like an "expensive" salt that keeps meat from rotting, is simply telling us to go out and witness and try to share the love of a Jesus with a those who need his love and grace most. In Chirst we have been given a new life (Romans 6:13). When that time of year rolls around for birthdays, hoildays, graduation, weddings, or whatever occasion is coming up next, we are so quick to talk about either what we want or the gifts we recieved, but as we are excited to talk about those things, we should be 10 times more excited to share the Word of God with the ones around us. We are promised a well-worth-it reward in enternity, so dont lose hope, faith, or perservervance because in Hebrews 12:1-2: "...Let us run with the perseverance and the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith..." And again in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27: Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. In Christ we are made complete. We come to him broken and worn, and he welcomes us and promsises us, not a easy life, but the strength to endure the race. With Christ, we are never left alone, we are never abandoned, and we are certainly never forgotten. He is our strength. He is our protecter, provider, comforter. He is our therapist. Remember, you may be the bible that others read, so strive to live in a way that makes unbeilvers question their disbeilf in God. MB
“Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favors what you do. /Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. / Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun— all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.”
“Remain true to yourself, but move ever upward toward greater consciousness and greater love! At the summit you will find yourselves united with all those who, from every direction, have made the same ascent. For everything that rises must converge.”
Toward the end of life, we must understand that we must give to others, so that when we leave this world we are what we have been given, have created, and have passed on.
My life is continually unfolding into a more global understanding of faith, religion and culture where I once thought all was wrong and evil if not strictly Roman Catholic. One of the ways I cultivate my outlook is to analyze the different ways people honor the dead.
Many girls of different ages fantasize about the perfect wedding, perfect husband, a gorgeous dress, and the happiness to come after the wedding. At one point I was just like these girls. I saw marriage as a paradise that everybody should experience. Around tenth- grade, my rose tinted glasses were removed and I witnessed just how bad a marriage could get to the point of divorce. The divorce my parents went through, changed my entire view on monogamy. I now see marriage in a more realistic point of view and that it is not an easy journey as I once had thought it was.
Identity-“Ones personal qualities.”Identiy is something only he or she can fully define. My uncle says I am affectionate, cheerful, and calm. My grandmother sees me as slim, pretty and sweet. My dad described me as perky, cheerful and happy, my mom says beautiful, gentle, and self-conscious. These adjectives describe me accurately, yet they are only abstract versions of me. Adjectives cannot begin to describe me and I aknowlege these descriptions for what they are, a condensed translation from my outward self to the world. It is impossible for anyone to understand me completely because nobody has experienced the things I have. My mother has never cherished a raggedy doll named Katie and my father never spent hours upon hours making collages and scrap books for his future children. My uncle never hid in the back of a pick-up-truck and traveled four hours to New York and my grandmother has never walked hours in the rain looking for the Queen of England. My identity is something only I can define.
Spiritual formation is a process that morphs as we grow and change. There is no one singular correct path this type of journey takes because each journey is as individual as the person who is experiencing it. Most obvious, the journey will be different from those who identify as religious and those who do not and will diversify with in each category. For example, the spiritual journey a Buddhist takes will be different from that of a believer in Judaism or Christianity. In fact, the journey will continue to diversify between Christians, male and female, age groups, even by demographic location. Consequently, the spiritual formation process is as diverse as it is intricate and we may never be able to discover all the journey options. Although individuals may not actively recognize they are experiencing spiritual formation it is a process that affects all. Because it is in human nature to question, learn, grow, and act, everyone to a certain extent is exposed to a unique spiritual formation journey.
Being a follower of Jesus is not be about getting applause for being religious; our behaviour should reflect His, and our lives should bear the fruit of being a disciple. Finally, We have too long for the life in God’s coming Kingdom because ultimately that is more valuable to us than anything available in this world.
... of justice and kindness and devotion; pray and fast without fainting, and spend all of our time in some form of religious worship; if the things that we do were such to get us a name throughout the world, and make us famous to all future generations, it would all be in vain without sincere love to God in the heart. Furthermore, we understand that it is not the external work done, or the suffering endured, that is worth anything but yet it is the extent of love that is displayed that means something in the sight of God.
It always makes me appreciate that I have that relationship with God and there are people in my life that inspire me to be a better person. These topics that we have discussed so far in our course are very interesting because they make you think about your personal life. Although I don’t always like to think about death, I hope and pray that my legacy left a positive and lasting impression on others. I want to inspire others to do what they feel is right. The world today has many challenges, and for some it may be difficult to overcome these challenges. Our actions must have good intentions associated with them. I remember a saying that we use in Navy, that we must do the right things even when no one is looking or noticing. I like that this passage explains that all the unseen deeds that we do will not go
On the Monday October 27th, 2014, for the first time in 4 years I did not wake up at 5:30 in the morning, I was not putting on a green skivvy shirt and shorts. There was no formation, no one that was higher command I had to report to, telling me where I had to go, what time I had to eat breakfast, what was I doing this day or what our platoon plans were for the day. There were no PT (physical training) I had to do this morning. Instead, I woke up grab a regular t-shirt, khaki shorts, and my two sea bags full of clothing and gear that I collected during my time in the Marine Corps. I threw everything in my vehicle and drove from Camp Pendleton, California to Quincy, Illinois. Within two weeks I was accepted to Southern Illinois University Carbondale. For three days, I stayed at the
"He Who Can Do This Has the Whole World with Him. He Who Cannot Walks a Lonely Way."
As followers of Christ, we must deny ourselves the wants and wishes that we put first in our lives and take on the same heart that Jesus had. We need to serve God and
The Messiah left the people hopeful by explaining how easy it is to enter the kingdom of Heaven. According to Matthew 5:3-12, the people with righteous hearts will definitely inherit the kingdom of Heaven. Jesus inspires everyone to be humble, merciful, peaceful, and kind to one another, and he also mentions the importance of forgiveness and love several times, portraying his loving nature. Christ warns the nations to not fear persecution, because their reward in heaven will be great. Jesus mentions that Christians are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. However, salt without saltiness is worthless; hence, Christians without spiritual knowledge won’t get far in life. Christ motivates Christians to stand out by being loving, kind, compassionate; a reflection of Jesus so that unbelievers are eager to become Christians as well (New International Version, Matt.5:13-17). Additionally, he mentions the consequences of murder, adultery, and divorce. He talks about the sincerity of oaths and the importance of loving your enemies and giving to the poor. Jesus preaches about the importance of prayer because it is the way of communicating with the Lord. The Lord favors intimate and personal prayers over hypocritical prayers in public (New International Version, Matt.5.21-33,43, 6.1-5,25). Christ mentions the
Every summer my family takes a trip to somewhere other than my hometown in boring ol’ Oklahoma. This particular year, 2012, we decided to go up north to Wyoming, U.S.A. Before this trip had occurred I had thought that Wyoming was a boring, flat state with nothing to do. When I got there, I realized I had been horribly wrong. It all started how most of our family vacations start, My Aunt Kim and Uncle Toby show up in the rental car (usually it was there personal car but this trip was a bit longer than usual) packed with all of their things. This particular time was early in the morning, about 7 o’clock to be exact, then the process of getting all of all of our things kicks into high gear. My brother Blake and I are frantically trying to get all of our things and our parents things into the car so we
